Couldn't Tarquin be pronounced Tarkin, as in the Grand Moff?

Well, I for my part already pronounce it 'Tarkin', but then again I'm not a native English speaker, so dunno.

Yep, Tar-Quinn or Tar-Kin could both be right. Really you'd have to ask Tarquin how he pronounces. English has lots of funny letter combo sounds like that. I present ghoti as an example (pronounced fish).

Except that ghoti isn't really a word. It's just an example of how the written English language and the spoken language have evolved over the centuries.

I believe that "Tarquin" is pronounce "ah-kin' " with the silent "T", Boston "R", and hard "Q"

I feel he more accurately reflects this guy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tarquin_the_Proud), especially because he's more represented in drama.

Really, the Giant has taken a lot of names from Roman history ("Vaarsuvius", Pompey, Julia, Sabine, and probably a lot more I'm not thinking of).

Yeah, I thought he was named after that particular Tarquin as well. (And I'd be extremely surprised if Lucas didn't name the Grand Moff after him).

No it has to be Leia's hometown. Leia= Haley and Haley's hometown=GreySky City.

Though I don't know how they'll get there.:smallwink:

Once the Empress of Blood eats herself to Death Star size, you'll know exactly how they'll get there. :smalltongue:

There's a perfect exhaust port joke there but I'm not going to make it.

!!! Too... many... Star Wars references! First the striking down for more power trick, the thermal detonator, and now Grand Moff Tarkin!? What does that make Moff Chumley in this forum?! His avatar looks like him!

Eww, I hope you stopped watching Star Wars after TES or I might have to soak my brain in bleach.

It's spelled "Tarquin", but it's pronounced "Throat-Warbler Mangrove".

TES?

...Stopped watching right before getting to the word "Back" in the opening credits of The Empire Strikes Back? That's an oddly specific place to stop.

they come right out and say that that whole thing was a Star Wars reference. i was just waiting for them to follow up on the cleric being named Malak. Darth Malak is a character from KOTOR (Knights of the Old Republic.) when they hit you with "Macebook" and he has a bunch of posts from Kotor the paladin i pretty much lost it. im sure the KOTOR references hit home with a lot of people anticipating the release of the MMO coming out next year.

Rich stopped the whole SW references. Malack sounds like "Malady", and I doubt the Giant has played Knights of the Old Republic anyways. Tarquin is named after either the 5th or 7th (and last) king of Rome. Plus, it's Lawful-Evil sounding.

I dunno, having Kotor the Paladin as a friend on Macebook pretty much confirms it in my opinion. Bona Fide reference right there.

When exactly did he stop? There was a direct reference six strips ago.

As a swift Google search (http://www.google.com/search?q=tarquin) would tell you, "Tarquin" is a reasonably common English male name. Well, maybe "common" is the wrong word, but not unknown.

I happened to know one at school, and he pronounced it "tark-win". As does everyone else I've ever heard pronounce it, with the possible exception of one truly awful screenwriter (http://www.brunching.com/attackoftheclones.html).

Aside from that, I'd assumed from start that it'd be Tar-kin, but now I notice Tar-quinn sounds better.
