I noticed the Australasia in the Playground thread died a few months back. And since thread necromancy is frowned upon, I decided to create a shiny new thread.

So, Aussies in the Playground...are there many of us still here? Where abouts are you all? How's life and all that jazz? Should I grab the map from the old thread, or is it out of date by now?

Edit: Changed thread title.

Quick, change it to Australasia in the Playground so it doesn't get locked! (international regions only, after a proliferation of national threads) Also the map is out of date but snazzy, so I reckon you should grab another (with the wider area - probably SE Asia, New Zealand, etc) and update it.

So, which part of Australasia does everyone inhabit, and how are you finding the cold?

Uh, the AFL season is heating up? Which is good news, as it gives me something to think about that isn't schoolwork (finishing year 12, albeit not under HSC 'cause I'm a cool kid).

That's about all I can think about.

Well, I suppose there's been a fair bit of rain lately and a bridge collapsed. But those are details.

Yeah, that's pretty much Fyshwick. Depending on where you wind up in Canberra they might be selling fireworks, too ...

Those are all pretty good things to do in Canberra, dunno what else I'd suggest cause pretty much all of the things I do require that you live here first :smallwink:

I spose there're things like the War Memorial, National Museum, Portrait Gallery, both Parliament Houses etc. in addition to those things, but they can be a bit touristy (except the Portrait Gallery - it's fantastic!)

A long walk around Lake Burley Griffin comes recommended, cause Canberra is a city that (to outsiders) often looks pretty but contains nothing. So enjoy the pretty :smalltongue:

My experience with English teachers is wierd. One of them was a remedial English teacher ('Cos I sucked at English then), who was always either late or didn't show up, and treated everybody like six-year-olds.

The other teacher, whom I had the year after the remedial one, was an incredibly good teacher. Strict (made us email work at a deadline of 6pm Saturdays), nasty if you get on the wrong side of him, but knows his stuff and was reliable. After him, my English skills have been great. :smallcool:

I've had a mix of English teachers too...

One teacher, I got him three times, he didn't care. He was more interested in people's opinions than their writing. He preferred us to write text in 1st person, didn't particularly care about essay structure, and gave us assignments that consisted of "I'd like an essay about something. Anything. I don't really care what. I just want an essay. No, you can decide how long you need it to be"
Most. Frustrating. Thing. Ever.

So anyway, thankfully, after that I got the most amazing English teacher ever, who rekindled my passion for the subject. She loved the language, she loved the books, and she loved the students. It is her who insipred me to become an English teacher.

This year my teacher is also very good. She loves reading and analysing, and she marks fairly (if strictly). She's not so strict with deadlines...it's "Email it to me before about 10am of the Saturday after the Friday it's due". Then, come monday, about half the class hasn't emailed her, and she gets annoyed, but there's no real punishment.

I always look forward to her classes though, unless first English teacher, where I could have passed if I broke every grammatical and structural rule in existence, just so long as I justified my point reasonably.

I can beat all that. I did Year 13 :smalltongue: (the year system is counted differently in NZ). Not sure I can even remember what subjects I did... it was ten years ago now... in fact, exactly ten years now that I think about it, I was in the class of 2000. I did...
English
History
Classical Studies
Biology
Chemistry

My weekend? Saturday:
sleep in, wake up, get annoyed with myself for sleeping in, do food shopping at some point... I'm open to suggestions for anything else  ooh, laundry, I almost forgot the laundry.
Sunday:
wake up, go to church, stuff around after the service, go home, probably do the laundry I decide I can't be bothered doing on Saturday, watch Dancing with the Stars, go to bed too late and wake up grumpy on Monday morning.

Wouldn't it be kinder to let him sleep in? :smalltongue:

My weekend plans:
Saturday - house cleaning, some shopping, visiting my sister and my new baby niece in hospital in the afternoon, and going out with friends for dinner at my favourite Japanese (teppanyaki) restaurant.
Sunday - prepare foodstuffs for house party, have friends over all day for 'farewell' party (me and Mrs Dex are flying off to Europe on our belated honeymoon the following Sunday).

This recent rainfall has been spectacular. I'm starting to think we mined a colony of water elementals out of the earth or something. At least the reservoirs are getting much needed replenishment, altough I'm a bit edgy on the whole easing of water restrictions so soon.

Wait, what? You got to see snow in Canberra? Do you mean the surrounding area? Because it has only snowed like twice in my whole life here....

On the bright side, one of those times my Grandpa was up from Melbourn and got to see snow for the first time, he was about 80.

It's only been cold enough once in my life time to attempt to try to snow here in Melbourne, and that was when I was... 10 or so? I remember that a little bit of ice fell from the sky, and I picked it up and threw it at my vice principal.

Hrm, perhaps not the smartest idea at the time... :smallconfused:

Actually yeah. RMIT has a very solid design reputation. You can't really go wrong if you're doing a design course and you go there. If games technology is a design course...It sounds like it should be...

Also what year are you in? I presume 11 since you're looking at all of the unis.

Hey Skep ^^

I'm currently procrastinating homework...stupidest thing ever. Tomorrow in class we have a practical report write-up. Sure thing. Problem is, he wants us to write it beforehand, then remember it all, and then write it again tomorrow.

How stupid is that? What do we gain?

Anyway, also procrastinating English essay, for which I have done the introduction, a plan, and nothing else.

I'd like to have a decent sized draft by tomorrow. But yeah...procrastination.

So I'm gonna eat tea, practise piano, and then alternate between 15 minutes of English, 15 minutes of internet, and 15 minutes of Chem.

...I have motivation problems :(

Klose_the_Sith

I'm drinkin' tea and suffering from onrushes of social media. Plus I think I should *technically* be doing either some History or English (possibly even preparing for some sort of in-class this Friday that the teacher blatantly 'hinted' at how to prepare for etc.)

So naturally I'm wondering if I wanna play Worms 4, Empire Total War, GTA San Andreas or Company of Heroes.

What was that about motivational problems? :smallwink:
