View Full Version : Caster Chart

Alright so, the way I see it casters are basically divided by arcane / divine casting, prepared or spontaneous, whether they get bonus spells from an attribute bonus.

I was wondering if there was a chart or other organization that shows all or most caster classes divided by these categories or similar ones.

Also I was wondering if there's an organization anywhere showing classes by spells per day / spells known.

Not that I know of, but it's not hard to make one. Here:

This includes all the base casting classes I can think of, though I might have missed some especially if they're in more obscure books. Didn't bother with PrCs, since that would take forever. I included artificer, since that was close enough to spellcasting, but I didn't include psionicists, invokers, or similar casting systems.

Edit: PrCs

Where/What is Death Master?

Dragon Compendium. Osteomancer is also there. Its pretty lame though, for a caster.

Dragon compendium again. It's... a very strange class, with an extremely complex mechanic for getting spells that's probably not worth playing through early on.

You could also add PrCs that grant their own spellcasting without too much trouble. Off the top of my head:

Divine Crusader: 9th Prepared
Suel Arcanamach: 5th Spontaneous
Sublime Chord: 9th Spontaneous
Holy Liberator: 4th Prepared
Pious Templar: 4th Prepared
Justicar of Weal and Woe: 4th? Prepared
Bloodhound: 4th Prepared
Apostle of Peace: 9th Prepared
Ur-Priest: 9th Prepared
Blackguard: 4th Prepared
Assassin: 4th Prepared

Probably a couple more.

For Psionics, there is:
Psion: 9th
Wilder: 9th
PsyWar: 6th
Ardent: 9th
Lurk: 6th
Divine Mind: 6th
PsyThief: 6th?
Warmind: 5th

I'm sure there are a few more, but thats what I remember off the top of my head.

Assassin: 4th PreparedAssassin is spontaneous (with way too few spells known).

Add Knight of the Weave to Keld's list. Spontaneous, 6th, weird list.

They cast... from their bones? :smallconfused:

Alright, added the list for PrCs. There are just way too many crappy paladin knockoffs :smallannoyed:. I'm certain I've missed a few though.

PId6, has anyone told you you're awesome recently? Because you are, and I want to make sure you're aware of that.

@DrWonton: Yes, they use their bones to cast bone spells on skeletons... made of boooooones!. It is a silly class.

Yeah really, I was expecting a link or a no. :P This is pretty awesome.

Only thing I'd still be wondering about is do all of the base classes get bonus spells from their caster attribute?

Just for that, psionic classes up.

Yes, every spellcasting class (without really weird mechanics) gets bonus spells from some stat.

If you would be willing to suffer my ignorance, how does the Erudite get unlimited power points? I admittedly only looked at it once before, but I thought it was the same power usage as a Psion.

Powers known, not power points. Erudites can learn powers from other manifesters beyond the normal limit.

The basic abuse is to convert Mental Pinnacle to a power using the spell-to-power variant (the end result is basically a power that gives you two points for every point you spend on it). The downside is that the extra power points only last a short time.

As for powers known, it can learn as many powers as it wants, but it's only allowed to use a certain number of different powers over the course of a single day, IIRC.

Hmm, would you mind explaining the Mental Pinnacle method? I fail to see the transfer that you mentioned there.

Use Spell to Power to turn it into a psionic power. As a power, Mental Pinnacle costs 11 PP to manifest. It grants you 3 PP per manifester level, so you end up with 33 extra PP minimum, spending only 11 PP in the process. You see where this is going?

Ah, thank you, yes. I wasn't clear on the spell to power costs...

Certainly not endless, but an excellent expansion. It limits the powers, but all of those are useful.
