Once again I can't seem to find a rule in the SRD...

If I have energy resistance 10/fire and I make my reflex save verses a 50 point fireball, how much fire damage do I actually take?

(50/2)-10 = 15 pts or (50-10)/2 = 20 pts.

I'd prefer a hint as to where the actual rule can be found at.

I believe that it's option A, 15 points. The resistance functions against the actual amount of damage you take, not the amount you saved against.

Energy Resistance only applies when you take damage from that specific energy type and you save before taking damage so it would seem you should only take 15 in the situation you described.

To my knowledge there is no place where it says this specifically, but logic dictates that it would be the first option.

For reference:

The subject gains energy resistance 10 against the energy type chosen, meaning that each time the creature is subjected to such damage (whether from a natural or magical source), that damage is reduced by 10 points before being applied to the creature’s hit points.

Half
The spell deals damage, and a successful saving throw halves the damage taken (round down).
