In an E6 game, Zombies and Skeletons can be pretty useful, because in general the monsters undeadified don't break the HD cap and become useless for the power-level. However, you still have the likes of maximum hit-die to look out for.

So with that in mind, what is do you think is the best 24 hit-die (Max 12 hit-die per undead) undead strike force possible? Assume the undead creator has all corpsecrafter feats, as well as the ability to add any Libris Mortis template to their created undead. Also, assume this warband would idealistically be able to terrorise towns and small enemy platoons, and small fortified positions, not lay waste to countries (although it might, given E6 >_>).

My idea is:
5x Nimble Soldier Elf Skeletons (1 HD each, Longbow Proficiency, High Dex & Str. Can attack from afar with very large attack and AC bonuses)
4x Fast Unkillable Orc Zombies (2 HD Each, 60+ Move rate, Monstrous Str, Fast Healing 5 and good deal of HP. Martial Weapon proficiencies if pre-death Orc had proficiencies. Skirmish strike force.)
1x Nimble Elephant Skeletons (11 HD. Has three attacks in a full attack, gore attacks, 30+ Str, lots of HP. Best of all, Elf skeletons can attack safely from inside, so it's effectively a tank that can engage in melee)

Do you think this war band is good? Do you think it could be better? What is your idea?

Is Awaken Undead permitted? If so, I'd go with something like the following:

Awakened Nimble Cave Troll (MM3) Skeleton (9 HD) Power Attack, 2 Claws with Rend, Bite with Improved Grab, Pounce with 2 Rakes, and Fast Healing 8.

Awakened Nimble Advanced Arrow Demon (MM3) Skeleton (12 HD) Close Combat Shot, Oversized Weapons, Symmetrical Archery, Electricity Immunity, Resist Acid 10 and Fire 10, SR 18, Point Blank Shot, Precise Shot, Rapid Shot, and Weapon Focus: Longbow. With Rapid Shot and Symmetrical Archery it gets six attacks/round, and it could be wielding its original two +1 Composite Longbows (+5 Str bonus).

3x Awakened Vicious Serval (Sandstorm) Skeleton (1 HD) 2 Claws with Rend, Bite with Improved Grab (tiny or smaller targets), Pounce with 2 Rakes, Weapon Finesse, spectacular jumper.

Throw Mineral Warrior (http://wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/ex/20031003e) onto the base creature for any of those to give it DR 8/Adamantine and a Burrow speed.

Hang on, can a Cave Troll get fast healing? Isn't that lost once the troll becomes a skeleton? :smallconfused:

Check out the spell Awaken Undead in SC, it gives an undead creature back all extraordinary abilities the base creature had. You should be able to cast it as an Incantation (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/variant/magic/incantations.htm), which is probably how you'd access Animate Dead as well since it normally wouldn't be available in E6.

Huh. Really nifty spell for a necromancer, then. Also, Clerics can gain access to Animate Dead in E6. So can Warlocks, although their method technically doesn't count as a spell.

Not sure how E6 works exactly, But if Trolls have Regen and not Fast healing then they don't retain it, Regen specifically says it requires a con score.
