In an upcoming game, I'd like to take a stab at playing the party rogue. So far I've only played Clerics and Sorcerers. I'm considering playing a Kobold, eventually intending to take the Combat Trapsmith PRC. However....

1. Kobolds have arse for str, so I'm going to essentially be limited to something like a crossbow so I won't have to take damage penalties for being so feeble.

2. Most of the best traps for the Combat Trapsmith require ranks in Craft Alchemy... but I can't craft any alchemical items unless 'am a spellcaster'.

3. I'm unsure what Trapsmith traps to take.

1st level
Glitterburst: Reveal Invisible
Scorcher: Fire damage
Footspiker: Caltrops
Befuddle: -2 mental penalty
Enfeebler: Fatigues Target

2nd Level
Entangler: Tanglefoot Bag
Equalizer: Ref save or fall prone.

3rd level
Flashbang: Blind/Deafen
Spiderweb: Web spell

4th Level
Sleeper: Sleep
Stinkburst: Stinking cloud

5th level
Great Scorcher: higher fire damage

Can take 2 at 1st level of trapsmith, plus 1 at each additional level, and each level lets you re-pick one of the ones from the previous level.

I'm thinking I'll take...
1st level: Scorcher, Enfeebler
2nd Level: Scorcher, Entangler, Equalizer
3rd Level: Scorcher, Equalizer, Spiderweb, Flashbang
4th level: Scorcher, Equalizer, Spiderweb, Flashbang, Sleeper
5th Level: G. Scorcher, Equalizer, Spiderweb, Flashbang, Sleeper, Stinkburst

So, I'd like some suggestions on weapon choices, trap choices, and whether or when I should dip into some other class to qualify as a spellcaster for alchemical crafting? On top of that, are there any nasty alchemical items that I could brew up?

Traps normally deal not enough damage so I wouldn´t take any of those. Fire damage is the most often resisted kind of damage so that hurts, too. The debuff traps are OK, but all traps have pretty low save DCs. At high levels they won´t function that often.
Alchemical items are pretty weak, too, but can be useful in specific situations (swarms) or with high sneak attack(....) or in really big quantities (say one full bag of holding).

Since Combat Trapsmith is only five levels long you can combine it with a ten level PrC. Look for the ones you can only enter at high levels or continue with other PrC with few levels (Forest Revee (CC), Witch Hunter (ToM)).

For better alchemical items you could look in the homebrew forum. Perhaps they have made some better ones.

Pair it with the Trapsmith PrC from Dungeonscape. Mmm, 1st level Haste.
