Food Rules:

NEW Skill: Cooking (Wis)
With a Successful Cooking check, a cook may prepare special dishes with extraordinary or even supernatural effects.

A dish is a single-use consumable item that must be prepared by a character with ranks in Cooking. A cook can prepare any dish he has the necessary ranks in Cooking to create by making a special Cooking check that takes one hour. To create a dish, a cook must be able to move and have access to the appropriate ingredients. He must be able to concentrate during this time.

Often, a dish will have special effects if the cook beats the cooking DC by a certain number. If a cook fails to make the DC of the dish by 5 or less, the dish simply has no effect. If the cook fails a cooking check by more than 5, the creature eats the dish must make a fortitude save (DC 15) or be sickened for 24 hours. If the cook fails the check by more than 10, the creature that eats the dish must make a fortitude save (DC 20) or nauseated of one minute, then sickened for 24 hours. In addition, each round of combat they must make a fortitude save (DC 15) or be nauseated for one round.

Preparing the body of a monster into food requires expedience to preserve the beast's life force, which allows the cook to create the additional effects of his dishes. If an ingredient creature has been dead for one hour, the DC to prepare the dish is increased by 5, plus an additional 5 for every hour after the first.

If properly prepared, a dish's effects last for one hour normally. Higher level cooks can prepare longer-lasting dishes that last an additional hour for every ten ranks in cooking they have. Most cooks also have abilities that make dishes they eat last longer.

Eschewing some of your connection with the wild spirit of the world, you instead reap divine benefits from hunting and feasting on monsters.
Level: Ranger 1st
Replaces: If you select this class feature you do not gain Wild Empathy and never gain divine spells or spell slots.
Benefit: You gain Cooking as a class skill. In addition, you gain the Savor feature at 1st level. This feature allows you to double the duration of dishes you prepare and consume yourself. Complete Dish List

A:

Aboleth Brain
Aboleth Brain
Minimum Ranks: 12
Cut: Head
Servings: 1
Cook DC: 28
Augment: Yes
Ingredient Creatures: Aboleth

The aboleth brain is a complicated feast of five parts. The frontal lobe, studded with thousands of hornlike protrusions. The primary lobe, a complex net of tangled tendrils. The ventral lobe, four fingerlike extensions from the bottom of the brain. The dorsal lobe, covered with fine tendrils that twitch even in death. The rear lobe, six tendril-like branches from the dorsal lobe.

The Aboleth Brain grants the eater a +10 bonus to all knowledge checks as you tap into the racial memory of the aboleth. In addition, the eater gains a fraction of the aboleth’s psionic power. He gains the following psionic abilities: 2/Day: Dominate Person, Mirage Arcana, Persistant Image, Veil.

Augment:
For every 5 points the cook beats the DC by, he gains one additional use/day of the psionic abilities.

Ankeg Stomach
Ankeg Stomach
Minimum Ranks: 6
Cut: Brisket/Rump
Servings: 1
Cook DC: DC 20
Augment: Yes
Ingredient Creatures: Ankeg

This dish consists of the stomach of an Ankeg, emptied out and then stuffed with a number of it‘s other organs, finely minced and mixed with root vegetables and a number of spices. Despite how unappetizing it sounds, it has a delicious savory flavor, though some complain of heartburn afterwards.

The Ankeg Stomach gives the eater the ability to spit acid as a ranged touch attack and deal acid damage with a bite attack. If the eater possesses a bite attack, any time the eater hits with this attack, it deals an additional 1d4 points of acid damage. As a standard action he can also hock up a mouthful of acid and spit it in a searing glob a single opponent within 30 feet. If the attack hits, the target takes 2d4 damage, plus an addition 1d4 acid damage each round thereafter for three rounds. After using the acid spit attack, the eater cannot use it again for one minute, and during this time he does not deal acid damage with a successful bite.

Augment:
For every 5 points the cook beats the DC by, the spit damage is increased by 1d4, and for every 10 points, the lingering damage after the spit and the damage dealt with each bite increases by 1d4.

Ape Strips
Ape Strips
Minimum Ranks: 4
Cut: Arms
Servings: 4
Cook DC: 15
Augment: Yes
Ingredient Creatures: Ape, Baboon, Dire Ape, Monkey

This dish is prepared by using portions of the bicep and forearm that don‘t touch either bone or skin. The strips are then dipped in a breading mixture and deep fried. The meat has a tough consistency, but is surprisingly flavorful.

Ape Strips grant the eater the eater the ability to climb with monkey-like ease. The eater gains a climb speed of 20 feet. He gains a +8 racial bonus on climb checks and can always choose to take 10 on a climb check, even if rushed or threatened.

Augment:
For every 5 points the cook beats the DC by, the granted climb speed increases by 5 feet.

Assassin Wine
Assassin Wine
Minimum Ranks: 6
Cut: Head
Servings: 4
Cook DC: DC 20
Augment: Yes
Ingredient Creatures: Assassin Vine

Assassin Wine is brewed out of the bitter, grape-like fruits of the Assassin Vine. It is a strong, heady beverage with a strong kick.

The eater of assassin wine gains blindsense out to 30 feet, using a combination of sound, scent, and vibrational cues. If the eater chooses to close his eyes and rely entirely on the blindsense, either because he cannot use his eyes or because he chooses not to, his blindsense instead becomes blindsight.

Augment:
For every 10 points you beat the DC by, the range of your blindsense increases by 5 feet.

Well, there needs to be room for good and evil. According to BoVD, eating sentient critters is an automatically evil act. Partially why there's that anthrophage PrC, so you can eat people and get stuff for it.

As for nymphs... I'm not even going there. too easy.

No rules for preserving food yet? Salting and curing are important parts of the cooking process when you have low amounts of technology.

Also, the DC increase for old meat is way way too high. Leaving meat out for an hour, regardless of temperature, should not automatically be the difference between food poisoning and a passable meal.

The first item I've found that serves that purpose perfectly is Angriz's Chest, 1000 GP from RoD. I'm intending to make larger, extra dimensional versions. But I could include a salting/canning kit.

Also, this is medieval times, so there's flies and disease rampant. It'a partially intended as a DM control method.

How long does the effect of the "buff" from the food last on another person? So, if one were to eat the Aboleth Fin with Mucous Sauce that was created by a cook that beat the DC by more than the number required, how long would the consumer have a Swim Speed, or be able to breathe water? It is not mentioned at all.

Otherwise, this is very interesting.

I was thinking 24 hours for non-cooks, but cooks would be able to persist effects on themselves.

24 hours is kind of long. No, actually, it is just really long. Especially considering that non-cooks don't even have to specialize to gain the benefit. One cohort gains them the same buff as a character devoted entirely to cooking. That just doesn't seem right. Maybe make the duration based on the skill ranks? Maybe 1 hour per 10 ranks, with 1 hour at 1 rank, 2 at ten ranks, 3 at twenty ranks.

That or you could give the bonuses from the food itself based on the ranks, but that might be harder to do, and would have to be done individually most likely.

Or both, I suppose. But 24 hours is certainly not a good idea with fixed bonuses.

[Edit]: On the note that the below poster has taken, maybe if they fail the check by more than 10, the creature must make a fortitude save or be nauseated?

....making a special craft (Cooking) check that takes 10 minutes.

10 minutes? Between setting up, sterilizing, and preparing the ingredients to be cooked (chopping vegetables/fabricating protein/etc), 10 minutes might work if you were sauteing a 1/2 lb slice of Beholder tentacle. You're looking at quite a substantially longer time if you plan on making a sauce, or a stock/broth/bouillon/consomme, or if you plan on braising/stewing, broiling, grilling, or frying it or if you're serving it with a starch or vegetable dish on the side (not to mention factoring in how many people you're cooking for, since adventuring parties tend to be 4+).

Especially keep in mind things with natural armor, like Dragons, who would probably need to be braised for days before a piece of them would be edible.

Also, a few of your recipe choices are kind of strange. Nymph stew? Nymphs seem to lack both fat and muscle for the most part - if you stewed one, you'd lose whatever meager flavor they probably had in the first place. You'd be better off marinating it for a little while and doing a quick grill or sauteing it in butter with onions&garlic and maybe some other vegetables (carrots? something with a firmer consistency).

If the cook fails a cooking check by more than 5, the creature eats the dish is sickened for 24 hours.

Probably needs a Fortitude save. I'd suggest a static 15 or so.

Debihuman

Maybe it should be 10 minutes per pound of food prepared or something like that. Obviously, that's a gross estimate of how long it takes to prepare a dish.

Okay, the main limiter would be that you can only make one dish of a dragon's wings for each dragon killed. Then, factor in the number of inedible monster types, including humanoids, monstrous humanoids, giants, undead, outsiders, and constructs. So, combine those and each day will likely only yield a few dishes, some days not producing any at all. The cook is obviously going to want them himself, as well. So, while there would be a possibility of having ONE dish a day, It's rather unlikely that you'll consistently manage to get something like flight.

However, I do understand your point. Perhaps one hour as a base, and cooks get to persist them longer as a class feature.

Well, 10 minutes seemed like a pretty basic time unit. Better than an hour, but long enough it didn't feel like you were just handwaving it off. I could include longer cook times for higher-level dishes. 10 minutes would be for the basic, lower-level dishes. I would say you'd be able to cook more than one dish at a time, but more than 2-3 dishes would start making you take circumstance penalties.

Also, the natural armor usually indicates scales or hide. Lobsters have pretty high NA, but they're quite tender inside once you crack the shell. Steak doesn't have the same consistency as leather. So, I don't think that dragon would take any longer to cook than any other dish.

I'm perfectly willing to admit that I'm not the most creative in terms of dish types. what would you recommend making out of nymphs?

As for the fort save, I could see that. Referring to the post above, I was thinking of nauseated as well, but that seemed like it would be too rough to make them sick for 24 hours. I could see like a percentage chance to be nauseated for 1 round while in combat or something.

Alright, this here is a prototype for the design of all dishes:

Sizzling Wings
Dish Level: 3
Cut: Shoulder
Cook Time: 10 minutes
Servings: 2
Cook DC: 20
Augment: Yes
Ingredient Creatures: Chimera, Dragonne, Dragon (True), Half-Dragon (Large or larger), Manticore, Spider Eater, Wyvern, Yrthak

The shoulder and wing of a draconic being, this dish is served with hot spices inspired by flavors drawn from draconic fundementia. The eater gains a large pair of draconic wings.

At it's basic level, this dish provides those who eat it with a +10 bonus to jump checks and the ability to glide, allowing them to negate damage from a fall of any height, and allowing 20 feet of forward travel for every 5 feet of descent. The eater glides at a speed of 30 feet with (average) maneuverability.

Augment:
If you beat the cooking DC by five, the eater can fly at a speed of 30 feet for a number of consecutive rounds equal to their constitution score. The eater can still glide between rounds of full flight. The eater cannot fly for a number of rounds equal to the rounds spent flying before he may fly again.
If you beat the cooking DC by ten, the eater can fly without tiring.

Breakdown:
Dish level: Minimum level of the cook making it.
Cut: Determines the part of the beast being harvested. Similar to magic item slots, prevents making two dishes out of one part of a creature.
Cook time: Self-explanatory.
Servings: How many of this dish can be made with one cooking check.
Cook DC: Basic DC
Augment: Has additional effects if you beat the DC by X
Ingredient Creatures: Creatures this meal can be cooked off of.

I think the way I would do it is start off with something like an hour for 1 dish if you only have a few points in the Cooking skill. Then, as you get more ranks in Cooking, you can do more dishes at one time during that hour. And then I'd have the Base Class reduce the time itself.

Keep in mind that past level 6, you've basically escaped what is physically possible in the real world, so being able to cook something that should take an hour, in 5 minutes, using your hot-blooded manliness to sear it perfectly all the way through with the burning passion of your manly heart is acceptable past that point.

I also like the idea of a Craftsman Needs No Tools (http://wiki.white-wolf.com/exalted/index.php?title=Charms:Craftsman_Needs_No_Tools) sort of effect, where you can instantly shape your love of cooking into masterwork pots, pans, beef stock, etc.

You're right about the natural armor. Still, cooking a whole Prime Rib from a cow can take 3-4 hours. Scale that up to Dragon-levels of muscle and toughness. Although, the point seems moot, as you don't have any recipes involving the main body of the dragon. The eyes, scales, tail, wings, and [I'm guessing the organ that generates their elemental energy?] wouldn't take any extra time, I think. Still, where does all the meat go?

I was kinda really enjoying the idea of portable kitchens. At low levels, you could work over campfires. At mid-level you could have a full kitchen in a wagon. At higher ones, you'd have a cube that would unfold into a 10x10 kitchen, or even a gate into an extraplanar five-star restaurant.

Actually, if done right, this might be able to get rid of gold from monsters, especially those who wouldn't normally have it, like an Aboleth, or a nymph. After killing a monster, the players take all of the meat, and then bring it back to be sold. If they find any equipment, they keep it. This might add both realism and extra roleplaying opportunities. I like it.

That would be interesting. But, unfortunately, it might also penalize those who wished to cook. If they wanted to give their group buffs, they would have to pay for them, probably out of their own pocket. Maybe giving the ability to those specialized in cooking to "sub" out one ingredient by use of another that is similar enough? Like, use squid or octopus instead of Aboleth? That might make it easier on their own wealth. Maybe only one per recipe, or only a certain number of times per day?

Hm, OK, I guess I could see this working.

Actually, now that I think of it, does each monster have its own weight listed? Because that might be a priority, in order to actually make this a playable variant. Like, say, 3/4's of a rare monster will be sellable (The organs and bones and such), and 1/4 will be meat, and muscle tissue. This way, the cook will get the meat, and still be able to receive his pay. Thusly, we (Since I am really excited about this :smalltongue:) need to make sure that it works for each monster, seeing as a dragons "parts" are going to sell for far more than, say, a giant bat. Maybe have it based on type and subtype? So a dragon might have 1000 GP/pound of parts, whereas an animal would have about 50 GP/pound. Then, the pounds of parts would be from the size of each creature. Just an idea.

Admiral Squish

Well, MOST monsters have listed weights, but the biggest problem I'm seeing with your system is that size is not always proportional to power. A 20th level necromancer would provide a TINY fragment of wealth, meat-wise.

Hm. Maybe have it based on HD instead of size? But I still think it works with the type, because some types will just be inherently more magical than others. Like, an adult dragon will still probably bring in more than that Necromancer. Also, the Necromancer is a bad example because he or she would likely keep some cash somewhere, and because after death, magical ability doesn't become infused into the bones and meat of a creature, it is only there if it is inherent, or so is my thinking. Actually, though, HD might work. Unfortunately, it would be next to impossible to have it be correct or anything if a creature has a large number of HD and is small, so you are suddenly able to extract 100 pounds of spell tissue from them? :smallconfused:

Maybe something like this:

HD: % of spell tissue, out of 30. So, a monster with 10 HD has 33% spell tissue. Caps at 75%.

Size: Amount of tissues total; depends slightly on monster.

Type: How much the spell tissue is worth.

There is always 25% of the monster that is meat and non-spell tissues that can be used for cooking.

{table=head]Type|Spell Tissue Worth per Pound

As to the meat economy, I think it would just be so much simpler to just say that instead of piles o' gold in monsters bellies, you just sell off the meat and parts for the same profit.

Sweet.

Also, what did you think of the figures I made on the table above? Too high, too low? How does the HD thing really work out?

Maybe I should change it to be HD/3*CR %? So, a Tarrasque would be 48/60, or 80%, which hits the cap of 75%, so he would be 75% spell tissue? How would that work?

Thinking about dragons:

{table=head]Age|Black|Blue|Green|Red|White|Brass|Bronze|Copper |Gold|Silver

Wyrmling|66.6%|75%|75%|75%|75%|||||

Very Young|75%|75%|75%|75%|75%|||||

Young|75%|75%|75%|71.42%|75%|||||

Juvenile|71.4%|70.83%|66.66%|60%|75%|||||

Young Adult|66.6%|60.6%|57.57%|53.846%|70.83%|||||

Adult|63.63%|54.76%|56.41|53.33%|66.66%|||||

Mature Adult|57.14%|54.16%|52.083%|50%|63.88%|||||

Old|56.25%|53.7%|51.85%|50%|57.77%|||||

Very Old|55.55%|56.14%|54.38%|52.39%|56.86%|||||

Ancient|57.89%|55.5%|53.96%|52.17%|59.25%|||||

Wyrm|60%|55.07%|56.06%|54.16%|61.4%|||||

Great Wyrm|57.57%|53.33%|54.16%|52.56%|58.73%|||||[/table]

I will probably finish the Prismatic Dragon part of the table later. Still, it seems to be in order, and it does explain why dragons might feel protective of their young (with more magical power, they are easier to kill, but also haven't had the magic seep out of them, meaning they have a higher percentage of magical tissues).

This is just a thought process, by the way.

Did a quick check on the formula. Ahnkeg (HD 3, CR 3). I end up with ~10% spellmeat, which translates to about 80 pounds of spellmeat at 200 GP/pound. 16000 GP total. Split four ways, 4000 a peice. Treasure tables says they should get ~900 GP for this battle.

So, magical beasts should get about 11.25 GP per pound then?

Hm. Having thought about this, it just sort of seems needlessly complicated. If you do it where it covers every single type, then some creatures are going to be overpriced, or under priced. If you do it on a creature by creature basis, then it is far, far too much work. I am not sure if there is a happy medium.

I tried it out on several of the hydra, and it only seems to work if the CR is really close to the HD, like for how Hydra's are. I am going to try on some other magical beasts.

[Edit]: For the Tarrasque, a party of four would get 2,193,750 GP. :smallannoyed:

This needs adjustment.

[Edit2]: Now I am just confused. For higher weight creatures (Like the Tarrasque), the numbers get wonky. For the lower weight creatures, the numbers are almost always close. This is confusing. Maybe add some effective weight with increased CR?

[Edit3]: Having tried it out on multiple creatures, I think I have come to a conclusion. We need to have an "effective" weight for each CR. Otherwise, the numbers get really weird. So; what should the effective weight be?

Maybe replace the gold and treasure (non-magical items) that a monster would normally have with an equivalent amount of normal and spell tissue. So now, there is the dilemma; how much does each cost per pound?

Admiral Squish

Just say that the valuable meat-parts of each animal are equivalent to the normal non-gear items. That way, we can leave the DM to determining what is so valuable and all that. Ahnkeg livers or something. Maybe make the base values 75% normal, then allow knowledge checks to increase the value up to a max of 125%.

Hm, that is certainly an interesting way to do it. I like the knowledge checks, but I am not sure exactly how it would work. By type, I assume? What knowledge skills apply to Constructs, Giants, Humanoids, Monstrous Humanoids, Magical Beasts, Dragons, Aberrations, or Oozes? I assume Knowledge (The Planes) gets you Outsiders and Elementals (being from the respective elemental planes, of course). Knowledge (Nature) could apply to Animals, Vermin, Plants and Fey (Maybe magical beasts... maybe). Knowledge (Religion) could be for undead.

Of course this gives a lot of importance to Knowledge (the Planes), and Knowledge (Nature), which are not altogether useless skills already.

Minimum Ranks: 7
Cut: Shoulder
Servings: 2

Aboleth brain prototype.

Cooking being it's own, wis-based skill, as opposed to a craft variant.

Predator gets a scaling bite attack that eventually starts dealing ability damage and healing with each bite.

'Bulk points' based off meals eaten that day. DR/piercing, maybe pass a threshold and you get bonuses like counting as one size larger.

Qu get trident proficiency.

In all honesty, it should involve Dexterity, Wisdom, Intelligence, and Charisma (for the ability to actually move the food, whether during a stir fry, or on a grill; the ability to watch and perceive the food, as it cooks; the knowledge of the recipe, and of the ingredients themselves; and creativity, which adds a little oomph to the magic, making it more potent, and actually able to be eaten without internal harm from the magical energies).

Actually, I think this could work very well. However, meals should not stack. Ever. It just strains my mind to even think of how that would work with magics. However, I like the idea that the more meals you eat, the more power you gain. But there really should be a threshold, past which no one can eat another meal, they are so stuffed. Also, I think the more you eat, you should also take a penalty or two to something. Like a penalty to dexterity and movement speed (being bloated), or something like that.

Ah. Well, I have never played FF IX. This is where the whole thing about Cooking being wisdom based is kind of weird. If the Qu receive a penalty to wisdom, to show that they are weird, that needlessly makes them underpowered for cooking. Unless they were to gain a +4/+3 bonus to the cooking skill, which might be balanced.

Yeah, that would be kind of confusing. Maybe they only receive the abilities from the dishes, because the cook adds enough flair to bring out the magic itself, allowing it to transfuse the character, giving them bonuses. Maybe a prestige class that allows the character to gain the ability as if the creature they had eaten were a Dish, if he makes a cooking check. Or something like that.

I suppose. But both are enhancing muscles, not giving you wings, a swim speed, extra arms, extra bites, or shapeshift (Just for the aberrations). I know a lot of these effects can already be granted by spells, but they also have to spend a spell slot. But, limiting the dishes you can have active by cut, as you mention above, would help greatly. Also, considering that you can only make what your DM throws at you, and you still would have to spend GP if you wanted to make something else, that makes this system far more balanced than Spellcasting, which is a good thing.

I just thought of something. What about the brain of a high level psion or the blood of a high level sorcerer? Both are naturally infused with innate energy. Also, their are cultures that thought that ritually consuming a worthy foe would grant them spiritual power, any ideas for that?

First: I'm reviving this with permission, so, please, no 'thread necro' shouting.

Second: I was kinda in a rough spot of my life for a while, so things like the Omnomnomicon, awesome as it is, got put on hold, for much longer than I'd expected they would.

Third: With time, however, comes distance, and with distance can sometimes come new insight. And so, I present to you the completed, updated dish list, complete with cuts and a brief description of what each dish does, as well as an alphabetical list for easy reference. I also added two more PrCs to the to-do list, the Brewer and the Heavyweight. And finally, I found a good picture for the Phage. So, with the concepts all nailed down, I'm NOW going to get started on the fleshing out of this potentially awesome system.

Let the fun part begin!

Okay, then, I can deal with silence. I suppose I didn't give you anything crunchy to chew on...

Well, if you want crunch, you shall have it! I present the first five dishes, ready for critique/review.

Athach Strips
Athach Strips
Minimum Ranks: 11
Cut: Arm
Servings: 3
Cook DC: 28
Augment: No
Ingredient Creatures: Athach

This dish is prepared by using portions of the Athach’s bicep and forearm that don‘t touch either bone or skin. The strips are then dipped in a breading mixture and deep fried. They have a tough texture to them, and their flavor is relatively gamey. They are quite difficult to make palatable, usually requiring the aid of a strong sauce or a dose of spices.

The eater of the Athach strips gains a third arm, protruding from the center of their chest. This arm is identical to the eater’s other arms. If the wielder has the two-weapon fighting feat, he is treated as having the multiweapon fighting feat as well.

Trust me, we're BOTH glad that nasty business is taken care of.

And now, I'm going to go to bed, but I'm going to provide you all with some more crunchy bits! Another five dishes!

Baked Spinnerets
Baked Spinneretes
Minimum Ranks:4
Cut: Brisket/Rump
Servings: 1
Cook DC: 15
Augment: Yes
Ingredient Creatures: Monstrous Spider, Phase Spider

This dish consists of the severed spinneret of a giant spider, drizzled with sticky, sugary syrup and baked thoroughly. The dish is surprisingly sweet and sticky, beneath a warm, crunchy shell. Some don‘t enjoy it, however, due to the tendency for the now-liquefied core of the spinnerets to stick to the eater‘s lips.

Baked Spinnerets give the eater the ability to spin webs. The eater can spin up to 50 feet of silken webbing per day. This webbing functions as silk rope, but the eater gains a +5 bonus to all use rope checks made using his webbing, and the DC of all checks made to escape from or break this webbing are increased by 4.

Augment:
For every 5 points you beat the DC by, the eater can produce an additional 5 feet of silk each day.

Basilisk Eyes
Basilisk Eyes
Minimum Ranks: 8
Cut: Head
Servings: 1
Cook DC: 26
Augment: No
Ingredient Creatures: Basilisk, Abbysal Greater Basilisk

This dish is composed of the eyes and optic nerves of a basilisk. It‘s not particularly filling, and requires a strong stomach to pop an intact eye into one‘s mouth. If you or your guests really have a problem with seeing the eyes themselves, you can bread them.

The eater of the Basilisk eyes can take a swift action each round to fix a single opponent within 30 feet with a petrifying gaze. The opponent must make a fortitude save (DC 10+½ Chef level+Wis) or be turned to stone, as with the stone to flesh spell. An opponent that successfully saves against this effect cannot be affected by this ability for 24 hours.

Behir Brisket
Behir Brisket
Minimum Ranks: 11
Cut: Brisket/Rump
Servings: 6
Cook DC: 28
Augment: No
Ingredient Creatures:

This dish is a huge tray of sliced meat. The meat has a slightly unusual blue color, but it has a rich, smoky flavor to it. The dish is prepared with the help of a rich spice rub and then smoking it.

The eater of a Behir Brisket sprouts six short arms from their abdomen, each tipped with sharp claws. The claws are not very strong and not very dexterous, but they can be quite dangerous in a grapple. He can make six rake attacks that deal 1d4 damage apiece, plus one-half the characters strength modifier.

Big T Carapace Cookies
Big T Carapace
Minimum Ranks: 23
Cut: Shoulder
Servings: 12
Cook DC: 43
Augment: No
Ingredient Creatures: Tarrasque

This dish is composed of the diamond-hard shell of the Tarrasque, ground down to powder, then formed into a dough-like substance and formed into cookies reminiscent of the tarrasque‘s armored back. The cookies are positively mouth-watering, and have inspired a wide array of imitations.

The eater of Big T Carapace Cookies gains spell resistance equal to 10+ the cook’s ranks in the cooking skill. In addition, any spell that fails to penetrate the eater’s spell resistance is rebounded against the caster, as though by a spell reflection effect. The eater’s skin takes on a metallic, bronze sheen while under the effects of this dish.

Bitter Venom Shake
Bitter Venom Shake
Minimum Ranks: 4
Cut: Head
Servings: 1
Cook DC: 15
Augment: Yes
Ingredient Creatures: Snake, Aranea, Phase Spider, Giant Centipede, Giant Spider

This shake is a minty green color. The shake is made out of the diluted venom harvested out the fangs of a monster. It has a sharp, almost bitter flavor to it, but the sugar and cream added to it help mellow the texture and sweeten the mix.

The eater of the Bitter Venom shake Gains a bite attack that deals 1d4 damage plus the characters strength modifier. In addition, a creature hit by the eater’s bite attack must make a fortitude save (DC 10+½ cook’s level+Wis) or be poisoned (Initial and secondary 1d6 strength or dex, or 1d4 con, chosen at the cooking)

Augment:
For every 10 point you beat the DC by, the poison‘s damage increases by one die size.

This is great. One of the more fun parts of one of my favorite video games (Star Ocean: the Second Story) allowed you to cook ingredients into dishes and consume them for healing, MP recovery, and additional effects.

So anyway, where are the dishes that provide healing? Might that be a class feature for our Gourmand class?

The Predator gaining a Bite attack that deals ability damage is not overpowered in the least. Rogues can deal out 2 Str damage every time they hit with sneak attack starting at level 10. At that level the Rogue's got at least four attacks per round. Giving the Predator the ability to deal 2 Constitution damage if he hits, once per round, seems fine to me. I really like the idea of the Predator attempting to eat his prey in mid combat in fact. Awesome flavor (pun intended). Balance out the benefits added to the Predator's Bite throughout the 20 levels with level-appropriate abilities and it should be fine.

Admiral Squish
2010-10-28, 01:04 PM
Well, they were both going to have something that heals, actually. The Gourmand was going to offer morale bonuses and some healing to people who eat his food (including himself), and the predator's bite was going to gain an ability that healed him each time he bit.

A couple more dishes to whet your appetites!

I'd honestly like some critique on all these dishes. Are the DCs too high? Too low? Are the effects balanced for the level you get them? Do they augment effectively to stay relevant?

Blinking Breast
Blinking Breast
Minimum Ranks: 5
Cut: Breast/Bacon
Servings: 1
Cook DC: 18
Augment: Yes
Ingredient Creatures: Blink Dog

This dish has a tough texture, with not a lot of flavor to it. A cook must be careful when butchering this cut, as this muscle has a tendency to continue blinking even when the blink dog is dead.

The eater of a Blinking Breast gains the ability to blink, much like a blink dog. Activating or deactivating the blinking requires a standard action. In addition, the eater may teleport up to 30 feet as a standard action as long as his is under the effect of the blinking breast.

Augment:
For every 5 points you beat the DC by, the range of the teleportation is increased by 5 feet. If you beat the DC by 15, the action required to activate or deactivate the abilities granted by the blinking breast is reduced to a move action.

Boiled Claws
Boiled Claws
Minimum Ranks: 4
Cut: Fingers
Servings: 1
Cook DC: 15
Augment: Yes
Ingredient Creatures: Chuul, Giant Scorpion

This hard-shelled claw is usually served with a buttery dipping sauce and eaten by pulling the meat out of the claw. If the boiling water is treated properly, the shell of the claw itself may also be eaten, but it‘s mostly flavorless.

The eater of Boiled Claws gains a pair of claw attacks that deal 1d4 damage as his fingers become encased in hard, bony shell. The eater gains a +2 bonus to grapple checks, and may deal claw damage automatically with a successful grapple check.

Augment:
For every 5 points you beat the DC by, you gain an additional +2 bonus to grapple checks.

Boiled Vines
Boiled Vines
Minimum Ranks: 6
Cut: Arms
Servings: 2
Cook DC: 20
Augment: Yes
Ingredient Creatures: Assasin Vine, Shambling Mound, Tendriculous

This dish is made from the vines of predatory plants, boiled until their almost wood-like texture is reduced to an edible one. Once soft, the vines are then sautéed with a mixture of other vegetables and some sauces, and served coiled on the plate like a spool of rope, with the other vegetables in the middle.

The eater of a boiled vine gains a +4 bonus on grapple checks. In addition, the eater gains the ability to constrict a grappled opponent, dealing 1d6 damage plus one and a half times his strength modifier with a successful grapple check.

Augment:
For every five points you bet the DC by, the eater gains an additional +2 to grapple checks.

Bulette Claws
Bullete Claws
Minimum Ranks: 10
Cut: Thigh
Servings: 4
Cook DC: 26
Augment: No
Ingredient Creatures:

This dish is prepared by carefully separating the meat from the bone of the bullete‘s legs and pan-frying it thoroughly. The meat has an earthy flavor, but yields a delicious flavor if you can deal with it‘s toughness.

The eater of bulette claws gains two claw attacks that deal 1d4 damage. If the eater leaps into the air by making a DC 20 jump check, he can make four claw attacks instead of two.

Candied Carapace
Candied Carapace
Minimum Ranks: 4
Cut: Breast/Bacon
Servings: 1
Cook DC: 16
Augment: Yes
Ingredient Creatures: Chuul, Ankeg, Bulette, Frost Worm, Phase Spider, Purple Worm, Remorhaz, Giant Ant, Giant Bee, Giant Bombardier Beetle, Giant Fire Beetle, Giant Stag Beetle, Giant Praying Mantis, Giant Wasp, Giant Centipede, Giant Scorpion, Giant Spider

This dish is prepared by removing the thickest portions of shell off a creature with an exoskeleton, then sinking the carved-up shell into a sweet, syrupy solution and letting it soak. When pulled out, the shell crumbles easily to the bite and has a sweet, sugary flavor.

The eater of Candied Carapace gains a +2 bonus to natural armor.

Augment:
For every 5 points you beat the DC by, the bonus to natural armor increases by 1.

Candied Mandibles
Candied Mandiles
Minimum Ranks: 4
Cut: Head
Servings: 1
Cook DC: 16
Augment: No
Ingredient Creatures: Ankeg, Frost Worm, Purple Worm, Remorhaz, Spider Eater, Giant Ant, Giant Bombardier Beetle, Giant Fire Beetle, Giant Stag Beetle, Giant Praying Mantis.

This dish is prepared by removing the mandibles of a creature with an exoskeleton, then sinking the carved-up mandibles into a sweet, syrupy solution and letting it soak. When pulled out, the shell crumbles easily to the bite and has a sweet, sugary flavor

The eater of the candied mandibles gains a bite attack that deals 1d6 damage.

Cat’s Tongue
Cat‘s Tongue
Minimum Ranks: 5
Cut: Head
Servings: 1
Cook DC: 18
Augment: Yes
Ingredient Creatures: Leopard, Lion, Tiger, Dire Lion, Dire Tiger, Dragonne, Tarrasque

This dish is made from the tongue of a feline boiled and finely chopped into thin slices. Generally, most cooks serve this dish without telling their patrons what part of the animal it‘s made of.

The eater of this dish gains a +4 bonus on intimidate checks. In addition, as a move action, the eater may roar, terrifying all creatures nearby. All creatures within 30 feet must make a will save (DC 10+½ cook’s level+eater’s cha) or be shaken for the duration of the encounter.

Augment:
For every 5 points you beat the DC by, you gain an additional +2 to intimidate checks.

Chilled Breast
Chilled Breast
Minimum Ranks: 8
Cut: Breast/Bacon
Servings: 2
Cook DC: 23
Augment: Yes
Ingredient Creatures: Frost Worm, Winter Wolf

This slice of meat chills itself. Most chefs prepare this dish on extremely high heat to counteract the cooling effect. Once cooked through, this cut is allowed to re-chill itself and served cold, often with a side of salad or cold pasta salad.

The eater of a Chilled Breast is chilled to the bone. They gain immunity to cold. In addition, the eater’s breath chills. If the eater hits an opponent with a bite attack, he deals an additional 1d6 cold damage, and, as a standard action, he can breathe out a 30-foot cone of cold air every 1d4 rounds, dealing 2d6 cold damage (reflex DC 10+½ cook‘s level+wis)

Augment:
For every 5 points you beat the DC by, your cold breath deals an additional 1d6 damage, and for every 10 points, you deal an additional 1d6 cold damage with a bite.

Eschewing some of your connection with the wild spirit of the world, you instead reap divine benefits from hunting and feasting on monsters.
Level: Ranger 1st
Replaces: If you select this class feature you do not gain Wild Empathy and never gain divine spells or spell slots.
Benefit: You gain the Connoisseur feature at 1st level. This feature allows you to prepare dishes from various cuts of creatures using the Craft (Cooking) skill to produce extraordinary and often supernatural effects. Additionally, you add the bonuses to skills you would normally get from your Favored Enemy feature to your Craft (Cooking) skill when preparing dishes obtained from cuts of your Favored Enemies. You have a Chef level equal to your Ranger level.

And now we all can play with these rules. Ka-ching!

Connoisseur does for Craft (Cooking) what Trapfinding does for Disable Device, expanding its usage into something more valuable, but only for classes that have it as a class feature.

I approve! Only one thing: Since craft (cooking) wasn't quite it, I ended up making a new cooking skill, based off wis. So, the only change is that instead of opening up craft (cooking) it's add cooking to the class skills.
Another thing: anyone CAN cook, but you have to buy your ranks cross-class, and since dishes are based off minimum ranks, you would be progressing at half-speed. You wouldn't even be able to make 1st-level dishes until level 4.

But yes, I whole-heartedly approve of the idea of a bushmeat ranger.

EDIT: APPARENTLY, I've forgotten to include this information in the front. Editing now.

It's more an ACF, I believe. At least, that's what I put it under when I applied it to the front page...

As for misspelling, I kinda am beginning to hate the auto-fix feature of my word processor.

Thing that has come to my attention: We need prices for materials. I'm thinking a scaling price based off the minimum ranks required to create the dish, but I'm not exactly sure of how to make that happen in a way that scales nicely with WBL. I'm also worried this would provide an additional income for cooking-related characters.

I'm thinking a scaling price based off the minimum ranks required to create the dish, but I'm not exactly sure of how to make that happen in a way that scales nicely with WBL. I'm also worried this would provide an additional income for cooking-related characters.

I wouldn't worry about the "additional income" issue. Characters can break wealth by level with incredible ease if they want, without ever needing to leave Core, by 3rd level when they can all afford to buy a Candle of Invocation and Gate in a Wish spell for a Wishblade or something.

Using the normal Craft rules you could assign a sale price to each dish equal to roughly... 20gp/required rank. If you did so a completed dish requiring 4 ranks to cook would be sold at market for 80gp, the materials to create said dish could be bought for a quarter of that price at 20gp, and the character cooking the dish could only sell it for 40gp. Note that characters can already do stuff like this with the regular Craft and/or Profession rules if they want it just takes more time.

To keep higher level ingredients more restrictive it would be better to assign a cost by level rather than by skill ranks. Basing this off of the cost of scrolls, if we compare the effects of cooking dishes to spells, 1st level ingredients (requiring 4 ranks in Cooking) might cost 10gp, while 3rd level ingredients (requiring 6 ranks in Cooking) might cost 75gp. In the middle (roughly equivalent to crafting a scroll of a 1st and one half level spell), 2nd level ingredients (requiring 5 ranks in Cooking) might cost 40gp. At higher levels 15th level ingredients (requiring 18 ranks in Cooking) might cost 1,500gp. In this model a completed dish could theoretically be sold at market for double the price of its ingredient.

Considering rarity of species however it might be better for in-game realism if you set a market price for every individual dish based on the power level of the dish (for example, Aboleth Brain is clearly much more powerful than a 5th level spell effect) and the rarity of the creature.

Note: Profession [Cook] check is the main staple for all cooking related checks in dnd, that and Profession [Baker] as baking covers pastries and while an ordinary cook can bake, no ordinary cook can apply said cooking knowledge expertly to pastries.

I've studied cooking quite extensively IRL, and the tuitions required for different red seal levels in different schools. This is the trend.

I wouldn't worry about the "additional income" issue. Characters can break wealth by level with incredible ease if they want, without ever needing to leave Core, by 3rd level when they can all afford to buy a Candle of Invocation and Gate in a Wish spell for a Wishblade or something.

True enough, but most DMs know to lookout for that stuff. Most DMs won't be expecting a homebrew to actively provide a way to destroy stuff.

Using that system, you could buy a chunk of tarrasque shell for 460 G. This does not scale enough for the higher levels.

This model seems appropriate, but I think dishes would require special rules. you can't just go to market and offer a guy a plate of behir brisket. No, you'd need to set up some kind of arcane bake sale or a restaurant.

Considering rarity of species however it might be better for in-game realism if you set a market price for every individual dish based on the power level of the dish (for example, Aboleth Brain is clearly much more powerful than a 5th level spell effect) and the rarity of the creature.
Well, the thing is, it's ingredients by dish, not by creature. The dishes can be made from multiple creature, and the DC/min ranks are based off the creature with the lowest CR among them. So, you don't have to hunt down a colossal giant spider every time you want a bitter venom shake, you can go to the lowest creature available and kill a tiny viper. so, if you're looking for the ingredients for a dish with a higher DC, that means the lowest creature that makes that dish is strong, and this would be more expensive than a lower DC dish.

Responded in bold.

I've paused the march of dishes for the moment, and I'm beginning to work on the predator class. So far, I'm not sure what else to put on it. I've given it a bite damage progression and a few bite enhancements. 5th gives you con damage. 10th gives you healing whenever you bite. 15th adds bleed damage. and I'm not sure exactly what I want 20th to do. 1st gives the Savor ability I proposed in the ranger ACF. But beyond that, I don't know what I should give him to fill in the dead levels.

I would change that up. Con damage every attack at 5th is pretty darned powerful. I'd offer the healing at 5th, the bleed damage at 10th, and the con damage at 15th, personally.

As for the other stuff, you could probably throw in Skirmish, or something like that. Track feat at 1st level could work, and maybe abilities befitting a tracker like the stuff from the Bloodhound PrC in Complete Adventurer I think it was (that or Complete Warrior).

Admiral Squish

Well, it's only one con damage with each bite. A shifter with the longtooth elite feat does the same, and you can access that at level 1.

I dunno. With the game hunter ranger ACF, I'm trying not to step on it's toes as well. I'm trying to think more along the lines of animalistic, getting more in touch with the predator's spirit.

Eating Nymphs?!!!

....

....

I think I'm going to be ill....

theres more than one way to eat a Nymph ;)

don't forgot dog curry, also hide jerky and Baskalis breast bacon should give you temp bonuses to natural armor.

i basicly went through the first page i hope that helps you, don't forget wines and ales and beers

you could devide this into diffrent races and classes but i find its better just to randomly name stuff.

the legendary "dwarven stout" - speaks for itself
Bane Blood Cordial - a random human drink
Gnomish Synthetic Wine - a wine made by gnomes which is artifical and made with a successful alchemy check, however it has no specific taste, the drinker decides the taste on contact
Orcish basic brew - a basic beer made by orcs, quite flavourful not very potent
Hammered Halfling Pint - made of the strongest stuff known to halfling kind
Elven ale - standard elven ale
Elven wine - standard elven wine
Drow Blood Mead - made of fermented blood bad taste but nutritious
Drow Death Tequilla - made from several drugs from the BOVD, fermented and non filtered contains traces of powdered void stone which disipate into the drink itself upon adding creating a deadly drink with a DC 35 saving throw

not sure if anyone has sujested this but.

Drinking Games
and alternative foods such as kebabs

Drinking Games:
Snort - snort in time and in tune with your fellow orcs, go out of tune, finish your drink.
Dwarven Rhyming - each dwarf takes it in turn to rhym a sentance together getting increasing difficult as the game progresses
Splutter - a game of gnomish origan the idea is to roll a successful comedy check while someone is drinking to make them splutter thier drink, the more people that splutter the more points you have.
Hammertoe - a game of halfling origan normally played in halfling bars all halflings finish thier drinks at the same time and then intentionally throw the clay mugs at thier fellow drinkers feet, one point per mug smashed.
Drow Drinking Roulette - several shots of Drow Death Tequilla, a good game for those who enjoy drink and reserve thier honor, a good way of secure infomation from a Drow contact who doesn't feel they can trust you, used by family members on important birthdays as a right of passage.

alternative foods

Kolbold Kebabs
Dog Curry
Gnomish Rogan Josh
Goblin chop Stew
Human Hamstring Ghoulash
Rummy Mummy Tummy - basicly haggus but made of rum soaked mummy parts
Stuffed Orc Leg - stuffing of persons choice
scambled Spiders Egg

my personal favrioute (i cooked this once without the ude of dragon meat i sculpted it into the shape of a dragon)

Apple & Honey, Spit Roasted, Suckling Golden Dragon Wyrmling - served on a platter of Salad - complete with cherry tomato's, celery and lettuce, Mash Potato and seven diffrent types of meat of your choice. topped off with a nice thick dragons blood sauce, magically enchanted to randomly change taste, with a hint of garlic and onion.

i don't know if you were looking for stuff to add but either way i felt like throwing out some stuff i came up with ages ago. enjoy :)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
EDIT

randomly i just thought about fun with food, possible new spells for food base classes and prestige classes such as....

animate food, could be useful for spagehtai or other such things, what better way to kick ass in a tavern bar fight than by animating peoples food and drinking creating your own little devilisly good army of deliciousness attack people. also good for assassins, a specific spell of "posion food and water" or "spoil food and water" etc
create water is good to have for cooking rice and pasta XD

possible base class of pastamancer? give it a D6 hitdice because of its work in extreme tempratures in diffrent enviroments.

sorry just had random thoughts was all i hope you enjoy this if not, meh at least i gave it a go.

Hide jerky is going to give you NA. So does Scaled Bacon and Candied Carapace.

That's basically going to be the focus of the brewer PrC. While a meal is longer and gives you more long-lasting powers, the brewer is going be crafting drinks, which work more like potions.

I could see dog curry, but humanoids/giants/goblinoids were gonna be covered under the anthropophage PRC and undead were gonna be mostly off-limits. Perhaps I could make some kinda 'iron gut' feat that would let you eat them.

my personal favorite (i cooked this once without the ude of dragon meat i sculpted it into the shape of a dragon)

Apple & Honey, Spit Roasted, Suckling Golden Dragon Wyrmling - served on a platter of Salad - complete with cherry tomato's, celery and lettuce, Mash Potato and seven different types of meat of your choice. topped off with a nice thick dragons blood sauce, magically enchanted to randomly change taste, with a hint of garlic and onion.

I like this, but the randomly changing flavor? No good. Cooking is about making the flavors work together, making them compliment one another. If one flavor is randomized, then there's no way it would work with the rest of the flavors.

i don't know if you were looking for stuff to add but either way i felt like throwing out some stuff i came up with ages ago. enjoy :)

People keep bringing up the idea of the pastamancer. I was originally going to have the gourmand as the sort of 'intellectual' cook, but now he's turning more into a helpful chef. So, I might add in a pastamancer with half-casting and a spell list focused on food.

randomly out of intrest because you mentioned it there is a spell called iron guts in the spell compendium i belive it grants extra HD to your undead and changed thier hardness or something, not quite sure, just saying its there, maybe you could mod it and have it avalible somehow at inns.... maybe a specially magically enchanted mug or glass.

oh randomly another dish

So, yeah. two entirely different spells. Sorry. :smallfrown:

I'm thinking a feat that makes you immune to the sickened or nauseated effect from improperly prepared food and opens up a numer of undead dishes. It'd probably be a really simplified list, based on the fact that the actual meat of the undead creature was something else originally and you're just consuming the negative energy.

Just a small suggestion: The skill, ability, attack roll, and whatnot bonuses could possibly be titled culinary bonuses which won't stack with other culinary bonuses of the same type. Ex: A +4 culinary bonus to jump won't stack with a +2 culinary bonus to jump from a different source.

Convenient, we were just talking about that.
I'm thinking there would be a feat that would allow you to eat undead dishes. The dishes themselves could either be based off the creature that BECAME the undead or open up a number of general dishes that would just sorta be based of the nature of being undead.

The real problem with undead as a whole is that they were, originally, something else. In my head, the nature of the creature's essence is what propels the power of the dishes. Undead lose their original souls and are instead animated by negative energy. So, any dish prepared from an undead would mostly be based on this negative energy essence.

I am intrigued! And look forward to the classes.

Glad to hear it!

I had never heard of blue guys before. Perhaps that could be an additional category, special penalties for failing the cooking check on certain dishes.

Although I haven't read every post of this thread in depth, one thing here kind of sounds wierd to me (and I hope someone else has already brought this up). The thing is, this manual makes the cooking magical, even when using creatures that aren't themselves magical.

While not inherently a bad thing, this thread is making cooking magical for everybody. A normal level one Expert or Commoner with four ranks in Craft (cooking) and 12 Wisdom can cook up some ape and expect their wearer to start climbing around like a ape over 50% of the time.

We are talking about a completely mundane cook (a rough equivalent for you or me in a fantasy setting) using normal tools and a normal animal to somehow create a pseudo-magical effect. What? Even if you argue that the ingester is merely "inspired" to climb, that still doesn't account for the spinnerets or sudden fangs or claws. :smallconfused:

Wouldn't things make a bit more sense if only specialists at this form of mystic food preparation (such as the classes you are cooking up) could actually use Craft (Cooking) in this way? Even if only a 1-level dip would be required, it would stop level 1 commoners from gaining access to an entire magic system (or at least the parts they could use).

As for a name, how about the Manual of Mystic Munchies? :smalltongue:

Gah! Nobody reads the first post. Cooking is an ENTIRELY NEW skill. There is no craft (Cooking), nor profession (Cook) being used! The only way to get access to Cooking as a class skill is either leveling in one of the cook classes or, through one method or another, making all skills class skills.

The may the whole thing works is that by cooking using the special techniques represented in the cooking skill, one sears the essence of the creature into it's meat and thus gains aspects of the consumed creature. It's more totemic than arcane or divine. You're skipping all the intermediaries and drawing power directly from the soul of the creature you cook.

Yes, everyone CAN cook, but the minimum rank to cook anything is 4, and you wouldn't be able to reach that without Cooking as a class skill until you reach level 4.

Note: Cooking is not Craft (cooking) or Profession (cook). As described above, it is a separate skill.

Alternately, name the skill Magical Cookery or Superhuman Seasoning or Gourmysticism or something to make it more obvious that it's not just another craft skill and that it's entirely possible for someone to have skill as a regular cook without having skill in Magical Cookery. Granted, an Expert can still pick it as a class skill and it would be another perk for Factotums, but for factotums that's sort of their Thing and a master chef expert having access to this skill makes sense.

As far as undead go I feel it should certainly be by undead creature rather than what the body originally was - it just seems more interesting that way. The possible exception would be the "generic" dishes that are shared by every creature that has a certain body part (for instance, being able to make Candied Carapace from zombie giant beetles).

Looking over the list, I was a little disappointed to see that illithids make Flayed Mind rather than Mind Fillet. But then I feel that all opportunities for cooking puns in these item names should be pursued.

Okay, I've spent most of the day trying to figure out a word to describe eating an animal to gain it's power. The internet has been mostly useless.

Somebody mentioned Animaphagy, which actually translates more accurately into eating the spirit/soul.

While I agree that eating undead should be based off the specific creature for awesomeness, I think that, the way the system is supposed to work, that wouldn't work out. Besides, the vast majority of undead are humanoid-based.

Mind Fillet actually sounds pretty good in terms of naming.

Alright, Recipe critiques!

Bitter Venom Shake seems like it should serve more than one, especially with the bigger critters, so possibly be a function of size of critter taken from? Also, Wis to the save DC is strange, unless it's supposed to be the Chef's Wis, I suppose. Otherwise, if it's based on the eater, I'd make it Con-based.

Boiled Claws and Candied Carapace both seem like they should provide more servings. The claws is liable to serve 2, at least. (Chuul claws are huge and probably have a good amount of meat in 'em!) The Candied Carapace probably has a similar thing to the Shake for cooked critter size to serving ratio.

Blinking Breast is way too uber for 2nd level. Free blink for the next hour, whenever you want it? I'd take that in a heart beat! If it was just the Dim Door, that'd be on par with the Blink Shirt, which a 2nd level Totemist can do but the Blink as well should push this up to a Rank 7 or 8 recipe.

There should be of an Ankheg's Stomach to serve 2, I'd say.

Assassin Wine's Blindsight should probably be an Augment, not automatic, as that's kinda too awesome once again.

Bullete Claws are kinda weak currently, as you could claws much earlier than this. If you got pounce on top of that, rather than having to jump kick to get the extra 2, that probably would strengthen it up significantly.

Behir Brisket is really situational. I'd give a minor Lightning Breath effect to replace or in addition to the claws.

The rest seems otherwise pretty on-par. I await further recipes and/or other material.

I await further recipes and/or other material.

firstly: You get an internets for being the first one to really review the dishes. *hands over internets*

Bitter Venom: Yes, it's supposed to be the cook's Wis. As for multiple servings, You do have a point. I'm not sure how I would produce such a table.

Boiled Claws/Candied Carapace: I could probably make it two servings, but the whole servings based on size thing is slightly awkward. I mean, the claws off a small scorpion would probably serve two halflings, but it would be a pretty small meal for a human.

Blinking Breast: If I moved it down to just the dim door, would that work?

Ankeg Stomach: Why two? If there's only one stomach, why would it make two meals? You have to keep aesthetics in mind. If you cut the stomach in half, you just have two piles of blah.

Assasin Wine: Okay, I'll do something about it.

Behir Brisket: There's a different dish that gives you the breath weapon. The Brisket seemed to me like it would be too powerful, if anything, especially in a grapple build. (Which is quite possible with the system as it stands)

Bulette claws: I'm aware the jumping is awkward, but I'm not sure how else to do it. I can't make it pounce, since the bulette certainly can't do that, and there would have to be some way to make the extra feet get up. Perhaps just give it two claws and two rakes? It could use the rakes in a grapple or use them if it gets pounce some other way.

Yays!

Bitter Venom: Yes, it's supposed to be the cook's Wis. As for multiple servings, You do have a point. I'm not sure how I would produce such a table.

Something along the lines of 1 serving for medium or smaller, 2 for large, 4 huge, 8 gargantuan, 16 colossal? Venom glands aren't that big, usually, but bigger things have bigger glands and so on.

Boiled Claws/Candied Carapace: I could probably make it two servings, but the whole servings based on size thing is slightly awkward. I mean, the claws off a small scorpion would probably serve two halflings, but it would be a pretty small meal for a human.

Is each meal intended to be filling, though? I'm imagining something similar to the above for the Shake for the carapace but the claws, since there's 2, should provide 2 meals, depending on the size of crustacean you get 'em from.

Blinking Breast: If I moved it down to just the dim door, would that work?

Yeah, that'd work. Possibly make the Blink a higher recipe, like eating its heart or something.

Ankeg Stomach: Why two? If there's only one stomach, why would it make two meals? You have to keep aesthetics in mind. If you cut the stomach in half, you just have two piles of blah.

Ankheg's are Large, so one Medium character eating their stomach is gonna be quite a bit, I'd imagine. I mean, look at haggis: sheep are medium sized and there's probably enough for at least feeding a human, so I'd assume there'd be more than enough of an Ankheg's stomach to feed more than 1 human.

Behir Brisket: There's a different dish that gives you the breath weapon. The Brisket seemed to me like it would be too powerful, if anything, especially in a grapple build. (Which is quite possible with the system as it stands)

You could make it a little more appealing, like a grapple bonus, as the rake is the least bit of what makes Behirs awesome in a grapple. It's the Improved Grab and Constrict. The rakes are gravy.

Bulette claws: I'm aware the jumping is awkward, but I'm not sure how else to do it. I can't make it pounce, since the bulette certainly can't do that, and there would have to be some way to make the extra feet get up. Perhaps just give it two claws and two rakes? Yeah, the claws and rakes work. I suppose I was thinking of the soulmeld, which gives a Claw Pounce, which is why I suggested it.

Hmm, I dunno. I mean, this wouldn't apply to every dish, and I really don't like the idea of coming up with table to fit each dish that applies to critters of more than one size.

Is each meal intended to be filling, though? I'm imagining something similar to the above for the Shake for the carapace but the claws, since there's 2, should provide 2 meals, depending on the size of crustacean you get 'em from.

Well, not filling, but it should be a noticable meal.

Yeah, that'd work. Possibly make the Blink a higher recipe, like eating its heart or something.

Maybe that would work.

True, I suppose.

Trust me, there are going to be PLENTY of grapple-boosting dishes. Tentacle Roast/Constrictor Strips, Seared Paw, Behir Brisket, Primal Breast, Bulette Claws... throw all of them on one character, and you will have a BEAST.

Yeah, the claws and rakes work. I suppose I was thinking of the soulmeld, which gives a Claw Pounce, which is why I suggested it.

Well, you can get pounce of cat's paw already. I'm trying to avoid overlap.

Replied in bold.

Choker Breast
Choker Breast
Minimum Ranks: 5
Cut: Breast/Bacon
Servings: 1
Cook DC: 18
Augment: Yes
Ingredient Creatures: Choker

This dish, carved from the chest of a choker, is small and round, and sits on a bed of lettuce. Lightly seared, this cut is then drizzled with a sticky-sweet sauce. It has a remarkably smooth texture and it‘s incredibly tender, practically falling apart under the knife.

The eater of a Choker breast is almost unnaturally quick. He gains a +4 bonus on initiative checks and reflex saves.

Augment:
For every 10 points you beat the DC by, you gain an additional +2 on initiative and reflex saves.

The strips are usually deep-fried, though connoisseurs tend to prefer them without the breading and oils.

The eater of this dish gains a +2 bonus to grapple checks. In addition, the eater can constrict a grappled opponent with a successful grapple check, dealing 1d4+1.5 x str damage.

Augment:
For every 5 points you beat the DC, you gain another +1 bonus to grapple checks. For every 10 points, the constriction damage increases as though the eater were one size larger.

Crumbled Wing

Ingredient Creatures: Giant Bee, Giant Praying Mantic, Giant Wasp,

The fragile, gossamer wings of a flying insect are a beautiful thing. This dish is prepared by shattering the stiff wings and sprinkling them over a bed of chopped up apples and baked, melting the sugary wings over the tart apples. Best served warm.

The eater of this dish gains a fly speed of 20 feet with average maneuverability

Augment:
For every 5 points you beat the DC by, the fly speed increases by 5 feet. For every 10 points, the maneuverability improves by one step.

Also, I had the idea for a combat style feat. Fork and Knife Style. Trident in one hand and a sword of some sort in the other. If you hit with the trident, you gain a bonus to attacks with the sword, to represent holding them in place with the trident.

Not quite true, as Druids have Master Air and Bards, Sorcerers and Wizards have Swift Fly as 2nd level spells, so 3rd level. Hell, Alter Self can get you flight via becoming an Avariel. That said, perhaps upping it to 6 ranks/3rd level wouldn't be that out and out wrong. Maybe even 7 ranks, so you're a level after the casters, if it bothers you.

Master Air? I don't think I've heard of that one.
As for upping the skill requirement, I dunno. I was basing all the dish levels off the ingredient's CR. It would be the simplest solution, though.

Sorry for the long pause. Work begins once more I'm still puzzling over how to do the classes. I'm still thinking predator would be martial, Gourmand a buffer/healer/support character, and then we'll have a third, a mage of some sort. Probably half-caster, only going up to 6th level slots or something like that.

So, thinking on how to work with the predator, the idea of using ToB has arisen. So, now, I see two options. One, accept the currently available disciplines and make the class's special abilities work to flesh the class out as the predator. Two, create a discipline based on bite attacks and savage hunger. Or, three, combine the two, and create a discipline based on cooking and work the class abilities to focus it on predation. Suggestions?

Also, has anyone come up with a way to price ingredients so they scale properly?

Behold! I present another four dishes for your review. I'm most concerned about destrachan lung and Delver Steak. I'm worried the starting damage is wrong and that they don't scale properly. They are relatively high-level dishes, but I was trying to err on the side of caution. Also, delver steak tastes terrible, but I'm not sure about it. Shouldn't higher-level monsters produce more delicious and desirable meats? But then, there's got to be things that just taste nasty.

Dark Bacon
Dark Bacon
Minimum Ranks: 4
Cut: Breast/Bacon
Servings: 1
Cook DC: 16

Ingredient Creatures: Cloaker

This dish is composed of strips of meat taken from the back of a cloaker. The meat resembles bacon, but it‘s black with pale white ribbons running through it‘s length. The dish tastes almost exactly like regular bacon, though eating it does turn your tongue black.

The eater of this dish gains limited control over shadows, gaining a +4 bonus to hide checks and a 20% miss chance while in areas of shadowy illumination.

Augment:
For every 5 points you beat the DC by, you gain an additional +2 to hide checks.

Delver Steak
Name
Minimum Ranks: 12
Cut: Breast/Bacon
Servings: 4
Cook DC: 30
Augment: Yes
Ingredient Creatures: Delver

This dish is a truly massive steak cut from a delver. The meat is tough and chewey, and it has an unpleasantly sour flavor to it. The delver‘s acidic slime must be washed off and the steak must be soaked in vinegar before it can finally be grilled. It is generally considered to be more work that It’s worth, but some connoisseurs have a taste for the unique flavor.

The eater of this dish produces an acidic slime from their skin, specifically from their hands. If the eater hits an opponent with a slam, claw, or melee touch attack, he deposits a patch of the mucous-like sticky slime. This slime deals damage when initially applied, then additional damage each round after that for two rounds. To organic creatures or wooden objects, this acidic slime deals 1d6 damage. To metallic creatures or objects, this slime deals 2d8 damage. To stony creatures, objects, or structures, this slime deals 4d10 damage. The slime can be washed off with a pint of water or a weak acid, like vinegar. The victim’s armor and clothing dissolve immediately unless he succeeds on a reflex save (DC 10+eater’s con +½ eater’s HD). Similarly, a creature attacking the eater with natural weapons must make a reflex save of the same DC or take damage from the eater’s slime.

Augment:

Destrachan Lungs
Destrachan Lungs
Minimum Ranks: 11
Cut: Breast/Bacon
Servings: 2
Cook DC: 28
Augment: Yes
Ingredient Creatures: Destrachan

This dish is composed of the purplish lung of a Destrachan stuffed with breading and spices, then roasted slowly. The lung-meat is stringy and tough, but the spices and the long roasting help to make it soft enough to be palatable. It‘s got a surprisingly deep flavor, which the spices really help to bring out. The odd part is once the lungs are fully cooked, the web of veins crisscrossing the center of the lung tighten and stiffen, forming a web within the lung.

The eater of this dish gains a sonic scream attack that can be used as a standard action. This attack forms a cone 60 feet long, and all creatures within it are entitled to a reflex save (DC 10+Eater‘s Con +½ eater‘s HD) for half damage. The eater chooses flesh, nerves or material when using this attack. Choosing flesh, the attack deals 2d6 sonic damage to all creatures within the cone. If the eater chooses nerves, this attack deals 4d6 nonlethal damage to all living creatures within the cone. If the eater chooses material, he may choose glass, metal, stone, or wood, and this attack deals 2d6 sonic damage to all objects made of that material within. the cone.

Augment:

Digester Haggis
digester Haggis
Minimum Ranks:9
Cut: Brisket/Rump
Servings: 1
Cook DC: 25
Augment: Yes
Ingredient Creatures: Digester

This dish consists of the stomach of a digester, emptied out and then stuffed with a number of it‘s other organs, finely minced and mixed with root vegetables and a number of spices. Despite how unappetizing it sounds, it has a delicious savory flavor, though some complain of heartburn afterwards.

The eater gains the ability to spew acid from their mouth as a standard action, dealing 4d8 acid damage to all creatures in a 30-foot cone. After using this ability, the eater must wait 1d4 rounds before he can use it again.

Augment:

Depends on how much realness you want for this. If you want it to be very CRPG, where +CR = +Loot, then yes, higher level stuff should taste better. Otherwise, somethings are probably gonna remain gross regardless of how many herbs and spices you try to make it decent.

Another school of thought I've seen on how consumables' flavor scales with power is that the weakest stuff have flavors like Peppermint and Lemon, while the more powerful tends to burn as they go down from the sheer power contained. Just depends on your take, really.

Not quite sure how a Cloaker is a beginner recipe, given they're CR 5, but regardless, the recipe seems at the right power level. If the eater chooses nerves, this attack deals 4d6 nonlethal damage to all living creatures within the cone. If the eater chooses material, he may choose glass, metal, stone, or wood, and this attack deals 2d6 sonic damage to all objects made of that material within. the cone.

Augment:
For every 5 points you beat the DC by, the sonic damage dealt by the flesh and material attacks increases by 1d6 and the damage dealt by the nerves attack increases by 2d6.

Seems right on to me.

Augment:
For every 5 points you beat the DC by, this attack deals an additional 1d8 acid damage.

Missed the capitalization on the Big Bold Name for Digester. Otherwise good.

Well, there is a rarity factor to consider. Rich people are willing to spend a lot of money to make themselves feel rich. If that happens to involve eating tarrasque cookies, or the most expensive dish on the market they can get their fat little hands on, then so be it.

I DO like the latter idea, though that would beg the question why anyone would be bothering to cook them in the first place if no matter what you do to them, they hurt to eat.

Not quite sure how a Cloaker is a beginner recipe, given they're CR 5, but regardless, the recipe seems at the right power level. Low level concealment does give me nightmares of playing the Shackled City Adventure Path, though that could just be how it was played and not be a reflection of the power that has.

They are? I think I woulda noticed something like... Huh. so They are. I kinda nerfed the crap out of it, honestly, because I thought it would be too powerful as a 1st-level dish. I shall go remodel the dish to a higher power level.

Delver Steak's Big Bolded Name never got changed from the placeholder, first things. Otherwise, seems par for the course and remains fairly relevant with the Augments, though dropping the Augment jumps to 5 would probably be better.

How did I miss that? Gah. Fixed.
As for the augments, I was worried about how fast it scales for constructs, so I think I just over-reacted. Looking at it rationally, I agree. I will go fix.

Seems right on to me.

I was trying to keep the damage die low since sonic's a rather powerful energy type.

New batch, including the fixed version of dark bacon!

Also, I was thinking about the earlier suggestion of a 'culinary' bonus type. I'm not sure if I should go edit in the culinary bonus to each entry, or if I should just put a catch-all at the top of the list.

Dark Bacon
Dark Bacon
Minimum Ranks: 8
Cut: Breast/Bacon
Servings: 1
Cook DC: 23
Augment: Yes
Ingredient Creatures: Cloaker

This dish is composed of strips of meat taken from the back of a cloaker. The meat resembles bacon, but it‘s black with pale white ribbons running through it‘s length. The dish tastes almost exactly like regular bacon, though eating it does turn your tongue black.

The eater of this dish gains limited control over shadows, gaining a +6 bonus to hide checks. In addition, you can bend the shadows slightly. This ability can be used as a swift action while in any area of shadowy illumination to duplicate the effects of a mirror image spell, a blur spell, or a silent image spell. These effects only last until the start of your next turn, though you may use another swift action to keep the effect going.

Augment:
For every 5 points you beat the DC by, you gain an additional +2 to hide checks.

Dragon Lung
Dragon Lung
Minimum Ranks: 4
Cut: Breast/Bacon
Servings: 2
Cook DC: 16
Augment: Yes
Ingredient Creatures: Dragons, Half-Dragons, Dragon Turtle, Chimera

Dragon lung is a common luxury dish, very popular among the aristocrats, often viewed as a status symbol. Dragon lung recipies vary, but the most commonly prepared method is to poach the lung, before pouring wine into it and frying it with fresh vegetables and a light sauce. Dragon lung is rich and flavorful, the exact flavor varying slightly by the variety of dragon used. Red, gold, and brass lungs have a somewhat spicy flavor to them. Black, green, and copper lungs have a bit of a citrus hint to them. Blue and bronze lungs have a somewhat metallic flavor. White and silver lungs are almost sweet. The older the dragon used, the more rich and complex the taste, and the more noticeable the subtleties.

The eater of this dish can breathe out a breath weapon as a standard action. This takes the form of a 30-foot cone or a 60-foot line (chosen by the eater with each breath) that deals 2d6 fire, cold, electricity, or acid damage (See Table) with a reflex save (DC 10+eater’s Con +½ eater’s HD) for half damage. After using this ability, the eater must wait 1d4 rounds before he can use it again.

{table=head]Dragon Type|Shape|Energy
Black|Line|Acid
Blue|Line|Electricity
Green|Cone|Acid
Red|Cone|Fire
White|Cone|Cold
Brass|Line|Fire
Bronze|Line|Electricity
Copper|Line|Acid
Gold|Cone|Fire
Silver|Cone|Cold
[/table]

Augment:
For every 5 points you beat the DC by, the damage increases by 2d6.

Drake Eyes
Drake Eyes
Minimum Ranks:4
Cut:Head
Servings:1
Cook DC:16
Augment: Yes
Ingredient Creatures: Dragons, Pseudodragon

This dish is made of a dragon‘s eyes. The eyes are usually boiled, and often breaded for the weak of stomach. Some of the larger dragon eyes can be served sliced up into breaded rings and dipped in the fluid of the eye. The eyes are actually rather bland, but creative use of spices in the breading can help bring flavor to it.

The eater of the drake eye gains blindsense out to 20 feet.

Augment:
For every 10 points you beat the DC by, the range of the blindsense increases by 10 feet.

Drumstick
Drumstick
Minimum Ranks: 4
Cut: Thigh
Servings: 2
Cook DC: 16
Augment: Yes
Ingredient Creatures: Eagle, Hawk, Owl, Giant Owl, Giant Eagle, Roc, Stirge, Yrthak

It‘s said that a ranger-colonel was the first to perfect this recipe. The drumstick is breaded with a special blend of common herbs and spices that can be gathered in almost any forest. The exact combination is a secret, but most aspiring chef figure out their own imitation of the famous dish.

The eater of the drumstick gains a +2 bonus to dexterity.

Augment:
For every 10 points you beat the DC by, the dexterity bonus increases by 2.

Dryad Tongue
Dryad Tongue
Minimum Ranks: 6
Cut: Head
Servings: 1
Cook DC: 20
Augment: Yes
Ingredient Creatures:

This dish is often considered to be a delicacy, but only by those with somewhat loose morals. The tongue is usually grilled, then chopped into thin slices. It‘s not a lot of food, but it‘s flavor is a strange and quite pleasant combination of the sweetness of fresh fruit and the texture of meat.

The eater of this dish gains the ability to speak with plants, as though under a speak with plants spell, and can use entangle as a spell-like ability at-will. The eater also gains a +4 bonus to bluff, and diplomacy checks.

Augment:
For every 5 points you beat the DC by, the bonus to bluff and diplomacy increases by +2.

They last 1-3 hours for non-cooks, the duration based on ranks. Cooks will be getting class features that make their dishes last longer, first only if the cook consumes them himself, then there will be ones that allow them to persist them on others.

By public demand, I continue my labors! Three new dishes!

Eagle Eye Bites
Minimum Ranks: 4
Cut: Head
Servings: 1
Cook DC: 16
Augment: Yes
Ingredient Creatures: Eagle, Hawk, Griffon, Hippogryph, Roc, Manticore

These are the eyes of an eagle, served plain or breaded, often fried. Despite the numerous eye dishes that are about, these dishes are still rarely served.

The eater of this dish gains a +4 bonus to spot checks.

Augment:
For every 5 points you beat the DC by, the bonus to spot checks increases by 2.

Ear Sandwich
Ear Sandwiches
Minimum Ranks: 4
Cut: Head
Servings: 1
Cook DC: 16
Augment: Yes
Ingredient Creatures: Destrachan, Bat, Dire Bat, Darkmantle

The sandwich can be prepared with any number of combinations of breaks, cheeses, spreads, and other filliers, but the main ingredient remains the same, a pair of severed ears sandwiched between two slices of warm bread. The dish has a soft flavor that is relatively easy to lose track of, considering the chewing involved.

The eater can use sound and vibration to determine the location of enemies, gaining blindsense out to 30 feet and a +4 bonus to listen checks.

Augment:
For every 5 points you beat the DC by, the listen bonus increases by two.
For every 10 points you beat the DC by, the range of your blindsense increases by five feet.

Eye Kebab
Eye Kebab
Minimum Ranks: 7
Cut: Head
Servings: 4
Cook DC: 21
Augment: Yes
Ingredient Creatures: Beholder

This dish is composed of the eyestalk of a beholder, severed, and skewered on a stake, then roasted over an open flame. The meat is stringy and tough, with a deep richness to it once you overcome the chewing.
.
The eater of this dish can fire a pair of energy beams from their eyes. With a standard action, the eater can make a ranged touch attack against any creature within 60 feet. The eater can make a second ranged touch attack with the same range against either the same target or a second target within a 90-degree arc of the first target.. These attacks deal 2d6 damage each.

Augment:
For every five points you bea the DC by, the damage of these attacks increases by 1d6.

In case that wasn't enough for you, have another batch!

Fade Wrap
Fade Wrap
Minimum Ranks: 7
Cut: Shoulder
Servings: 1
Cook DC: 21
Augment: No
Ingredient Creatures: Pixie

This dish is relatively simple to prepare, though it requires a steady hand to do so. Basically, the cook cuts three foot-long strips from the back of a pixie, one on either side of the wings and one between them, taking a half-inch of meat with them. The strips are then fried and rolled, with the skin out, into a trio of small, spiral rolls, then held together with short wooden skewers and served. The dish is generally only favored by the evil, though it‘s power can sometimes lure others.

The eater of the fade wrap can spend a swift action to turn himself and his possessions invisible, as with the invisibility spell, for one round. As long as he continues to spend swift actions, the effect can last indefinitely, though attacking or casting a spell still dispels the invisibility until he spends another swift action to go invisible once more.

Feeler Sizzle
Feeler Sizzle
Minimum Ranks: 6
Cut: Fingers
Servings: 2
Cook DC: 20
Augment: No
Ingredient Creatures: Rust Monster

This dish is made from the feeler of a rust monster. The preparation method is quite interesting. The feeler is first laid out and sprinkled with powdered sugar and cinnamon. Then, the feeler is held over heat. The feeler curls inward as it is exposed to heat, forming a tight, spiraled ball. Overall, eating the dish is the most usual part of the meal, as the coiled feeler makes it difficult to properly bite into. It is not particularly filling, and it has a slightly coppery aftertaste, but it‘s rather sweet.

The eater of this dish can instantly rust any metallic object he touches. By making a melee touch attack, unarmed strike, or claw attack against a metallic object or creature, the target is affected as though targeted by a rusting grasp spell, although magic items may be affected by it as well. Magic items made of metal may make a reflex save (DC 10+½ cook’s level+con) to escape destruction.

Fey Skin
Fey Skin
Minimum Ranks: 4
Cut: Brisket/Rump
Servings: 1
Cook DC: 16
Augment: Yes
Ingredient Creatures: Dryad, Nymph, Satyr, Sprites

This dish is composed of the skin peeled off a fey, usually rolled up with some light spices and fried until slightly crispy on the outside.

The eater of this dish gains DR 1/Cold Iron.

Augment:
For every 5 points you beat the DC by, the DR granted increases by one point.

Eagle Eye Bites and Ear Sandwiches seem appropriate, though I wonder about whether Darkmantles actually have ears or not. Also, I don't know what 'breaks' are for in Sandwiches, though I assume that's supposed to be 'breads'. :smalltongue:

Eye Kebabs seem way low in ranks, consider Beholders are CR 13. If this also applies to Beholderkin, I could see maybe using an Eyeball or a Spectator, but otherwise, yeah, it needs pumping up to compare.

Fade Wrap would probably work better as Faux-Ghost Step, as at-will Swift Invisibility is all well and good but even Pixies get permanent Greater Invis, so let's make it semi-worthwhile with your constant flickering in and out of sight.

Feeler Sizzle feels powerful, though Rust Monsters always felt a bit unbalancing to me. It's probably alright, though.

Fey Skin seems spot on, though I see piles of skinned Grigs littering some evil chef's lair now.

A thought occurs to me that Profession(Cook) should provide a synergy bonus to the Cooking skill and perhaps vise versa, as they're based on similar techniques and being trained in one probably carries over well to the other.

I DID IT!

I CAME UP WITH A SYSTEM FOR INTOXICATION LEVELS!!!

it effects
Lungs for Smoking
Liver For Drinking
Stomach for over eating
and Heart.

i assume people are intrested so heres how it goes.....

effetively your organ recives 1d2 HD per HD your character has, so a 10th level character will have 10d2 + CON SCORE!! (thats right score) the heart has 1D3

this gives you how much damage those organs can take from smoking, drinking, eating, etc

taking damage works the same as in combat......
you take a shot of dwarven ale, you take damage to your liver, no save, or you could save for half damage depending on DM the full write up is more detailed.

anyways effectively when you reach 0 you cannot do no more without passing out from intoxication

if you decide to do more than this you black out if some how you get to -10 hp on your organs you need immediate medical treatment, via healing magic or technology or something else. in d20 modern this would call for an Amublence to be called and your stomach pumped.

now if you go OVER -10 hp on your organs you then carry the damage over to your heart.

if your character is a constant smoker or drinker over the space of 6 months game time you constantly loose points every 6 months to your organ HP, this than leads to heart disease, liver failure, possibly even cancer.

another nice little niche for people is this.....

for every 4 points of damage taken to an organ (depending on the organ)
PC's take -2 on everything, so after 8 points of drinking i would loose a circumstantial -4 to int, wis & cha

Bonuses are at Dm's Dis-gression for example being drunk makes you stronger or more able to take a hit etc.

thats my system though, watch out Elan, tummy aches are VERY REAL!

feed back is always appriciated

I was including beholderkin in there, yes.

You mean the ethereal ghost step? I could just make it invisibility usable as a swift action, so you don't have to keep spending actions on it. still, greater invisibility is a 4th level spell, not available until 7th level. I think it would be a little much to grant it that early.

Well, rusting grasp is a fourth-level spell, and it doesn't affect magic items. It very well might be too strong. Though, honestly, I always thought it was a crappy 4th level spell.

Fin Soup
Minimum Ranks: ???
Cut: Breast/Bacon

Augment: Yes
Ingredient Creatures: Dragon Turtle, Kraken, Sea Cat, Manta Ray, Porpoise, Shark, Whale

Fin Soup: The fin itself tasteless but has an amazing ability to bring out and enhance the flavor of other foods cooked with it, and many people enjoy it for the texture is has. Generally this dish is prepared by boiling the fin in a rich, flavorful broth for some time make the cartilaginous fin more tender.

Fin soup allows the eater to swim with the ease of a fish. It gains a +8 racial bonus on any Swim check to perform a special action or avoid a hazard. The creature always can choose to take 10 on a Swim check, even if distracted or endangered when swimming. Such a creature can use the run action while swimming, provided that it swims in a straight line.

Unfortunately, I haven't done much of anything with the omnomnomicon since the thread died out. I've been quite busy with my Crossroads (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=269334) project. the most work I've done with the system is co-opting it for a bard rework that's not done yet. However, I do intend to give this project a third try sometime, once the Crossroads project's complete.

Edit; I just realized this is the old thread. There is a somewhat-updated version Here (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=262419).
