Of course, with my luck, there's probably another thread like this, but I wonder just how many gods there are in the world of the Order of the Stick. Here's the current count; (Note, these are the gods who have been named.)

Western Gods~

Ereshkagal
Ishtar

Elves
God of Knowledge

Goblins~
The Dark One

Elan/Orcs~
Banjo
Giggles

Ex-Gods~ (They no longer exist)

Hel, Northern Goddess of the dead was in #737 (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0737.html). Although that is a bit of a grey area, as she isn't really worshipped.

There are also Elven Gods. Specific names are unknown, but they are referred to on a few occasions (notably in Start of Darkness, where some evil gods argued that the Dark One should be given a chance as a god because the gods accepted the Elven Gods when they ascended), and in the plural, so there's more than one.

That's why I didn't add them. No one knows their names, which I've mentioned in my first post.

...yet we know they exist, so if you want to make an accurate list, a note of their existence should be included.

Surtur makes an appearence in one of the early comics, even though we haven't seen him since.

I cant find the strip, but when Elan was trying to recruit for the cult of Banjo, didn't V mention the name of the god (s)he worships?

Well he has an established gender, so that's a step ahead of Varsuvius.

On that argument, I have made edits! All hail the 'edit' function! Huzzah!

By the way, anyone got a name for that fertility goddess? The one Thor knocked up, to use the vernacular of the peasantry.

Western - Isthar (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0737.html).

Surtur shouldn't count because A.) He's lacking distinct qualities of the OOTS gods (namely, a full body aura, a godly quality established early in the series) and B.) Surtur was of the jotunn. In the OOTSiverse, he's probably just an epic-level, unique Giant.

And maybe the chief dieties (Odin, Dragon, Marduk, Zeus) can get some recognition by bolding their names or something.

Yeah...I'm not sure if he's really a god. I mean, here, he's established as some kind of monster.

The fertility goddess referred to in the north pantheon should be Freya, so you loose one there.

Looking at other Norse fertility goddesses, it could be Gefjon (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gefjon).* Frigg (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frigg) would be...gross...Unless there's some story you're referring to. (EDIT: Number of Character Appearances thread says the goddess in #274 (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0274.html) and SoD is Freya. Dunno if that's 100% certain.)

Also, Sif (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0353.html) was mentioned. There is also 1 more unidentified Northern goddess in #73 (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0073.html) and 2 more Northern gods in SoD.

*Gefjon is also a virginity goddess according to Wikipedia, and the joke works better if Thor impregnated a virginity goddess. :smalltongue:

I'm sorry I missed Pan da' man (DON!).
About the fertility goddess thing, I'll just go with Gift Jeraff's suggestion and call her Gefjon until the Giant says otherwise.

Rich uses real-world Babylonian/Mesopotamian mythology as a basis for the gods of the West. Hextor was created as a D&D god, so that wouldn't really work out that well.

I thought it was Sif. Might explain why he married her, if the Norse are fond of crossbow weddings.
