I think I can link here fine. If you don't know her, check it out to get the feel of her.

From what I gather she's certainly chaotic, probably neutral. Quite smart, so i'd say she's a wizard at least. definately an arcane spellcaster of some sort. Maybe an evoker (due to her preference for a big bang), a spellwarp sniper (lasers, lasers, some stars and even more lasers), or maybe an arcane trickster.

Thoughts?

Edit: oh, almost forgot this (http://touhou.wikia.com/wiki/File:Spark_lesson.jpg)

This is extremely silly. Also, is it Stating or Statting? They both look subtly wrong to me now.

Anyway. I see Marisa as more of a warlock, since she's all about the blasting, and her original teacher was an 'evil spirit'. Plus, from what I've seen, warlocks hav Invocations that would help her being a sneak-thief, and since Warlocks use Cha as their stat, that will help her stealing 'precious things'.

Also. Broom of Flying. 17000gp. Marisa probably uses a Handy Haversack or something similar to store necessary stuff, and a Bag of Holding when she goes out looting. If she can afford her broom, we can probably assume that Marisa is fairly high level or has somehow managed to blow the recommended WBL wide open with her shenanigans.

As much of a thief as she is, I don't think she really has any ranks in Rogue or Arcane Trickster. Sneak-attack really doesn't seem her style, her combat is all about increasingly huge lasers. She might have cross-class ranks in hide/move silently though.

I'm not sure she actually needs the broom to fly. It's suggested she just likes the look of it. So, warlock with the appropriate invocations, I'd say.

Does she actually need thief skills? I thought most of her thievery was achieved through sheer brazenness, not sleight of hand. A warlock with a high CHA and an item to absurdly boost her eldritch blast (for Master Spark) should cover it reasonably well.

Plus you could take that invocation which boosts your Dex for 24 hours - great for sneaking and pilfering.

To speak my heart: d20 cannot do Touhou.

Stuff just don't fit, it is like jamming the square cube through the round hole, you can do it, but you will not like the result.

He has a point. How often do Touhou characters _conserve_ spells?

My M&M statline for Sakuya says hi :smalltongue:.

Anyway, as for the OP's question: actually, brazen and charismatic as she is, Marisa is very much a Wizard and not a Sorcerer - it's a big part of the chracter that while her friend Reimu just has spells given to her even if she sits on her ass all day because she's the holy maiden, Marisa needs to use weird reagents (she's reputed as an expert in magic mushrooms, too!) and study her brains raw.

As for Master Spark, remember that her normal blasts are smaller, and she uses a magic item to amplify them into the infamous Spark - the Hakkero. I'd really go with a Wizard, blasty, get Arcane Thesis for your favorite laser and metamagic the pants off it, the works.

She's a wizard, definitely. I originally envisioned her as a sorcerer due to being all blasty, but considering that she's not innately magical and devoted a lot of study to it, wizard fits her more than any other class.

Warlock is blasty, but not EXPLODE blasty.

There's a whole bunch of spells that work with her spells:

-Rainbow Blast (SC) Lv3, Master Spark
-Prismatic Eye (SC) Lv 9, Orreries Sun or Earthlight Ray
-Prismatic Spray (Core)--Final Spark

Metamagic as you see fit. I see her as taking Sudden Empower or Sudden Maximize, and having Explosive Spell.

Finally, the concept of Spellcards kind of works better with the Wizard MO, especially if you think of it in terms of the fighting games.

I also see her as Chaotic Good---she's a free spirit, but well-intentioned. Suika is more along the lines of Chaotic Neutral (PARTAAAAAAY ALL NIGHT!!!)

M&M is not really D20. For starters, there are very few settings D20 can actually represent well, and there are very few settings M&M can't represent well.

M&M is not really D20. For starters, there are very few settings D20 can actually represent well, and there are very few settings M&M can't represent well.

Eh, it has the d20 mechanic, the three classic saves, the skills, the feats (heck, a great many feats are downright copypasted from D&D), and I have easily been able to get players into it by telling them "it's basically D&D, except that for more freedom of character building, you buy your features freely with points, instead of having class levels". The only thing that left any doubt in players after this was the Toughness save instead of HP. It's every bit as d20 as, say, d20 Modern or d20 CoC (which sucks, yes, but that's not the point here)

The thing that makes M&M more suitable for more things is simply the flexibility of the points-based paradigm, not any substantial change in mechanics. It's why I love M&M - I like the mechanics of D&D a lot more than most, but the class tinkering can get annoying at times.

Maybe dragonborn for Master Spark, with some meta-breath feats and some item to boost it?

EDIT: Don't forget the metamagic rods (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/magicItems/rods.htm#metamagicRods).

Maybe go psionic, with Overchannel? The Hakkero is a psicrown (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/psionic/items/psicrowns.htm), and possibly also a psicrystal with Psicrystal Containment.
These variant rules (http://brilliantgameologists.com/boards/index.php?topic=5398.0) could be a help.

Don't forget to let her steal the precious thing (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JZtroc5NaZA&feature=related).
