Hello, fellows in the playground.

My Question is about the Alternative Character Option "Abyssal Specialist" in Drow of the Underdark, page 60.

What do you think about this alternative character option? Is it superior to playing a specialist diviner? Both options have to give up (only) one school of magic. Suppose you don't want to loose two schools by specialising in others schools, which one of those two options would you pick?

Are there good spells of each level, that fulfil the requirements of Evil, Darkness, Chaotic, Compulsion (Domination spells?) or fear, to fill in the bonus spell slots?

An obvious disadvantage is, that compared to Divination or a classical school of magic, you cannot simply pick Spell Focus to add a little DC to your specialist spells, as you cannot take Spell Focus (Abyssal Spells) or the like.

Any other thoughts?

Greetz and thanks in Advance!

obligatory reference to planar wizard substitution level (planar handbook p.36). makes all your spells chaotic.

oh: and spell focus (divination) is a waste of a feat...
