You're not sure what led you to this point, but you found yourself with a choice. You either gave up your life to pay for your 'Crimes against the Empire', or you fought in their monstrous Battlegrounds.

Some of the most hardened criminals, and toughest warriors are in this pit of fighters, and they're all here to kill or be killed. Win enough, and you can earn your freedom. Nobody has ever won enough fights, though.

Gold is earned after each fight, reflecting how entertaining your fight was, and how tough the opponent was.

In the blank, featureless room that you call home now, you find a single magical device, that will sell you any Potion or Oil you wish, and provide any Weapon with no cost for free, ammunition for simple or martial weapons, and provides free, yet poor quality simple and martial weapons. (-1 on attack rolls for the non-free simple weapons, -1 on atk/damage rolls for the martial ones)

There is also a fountain of magical water, which will heal you for 5hp between each encounter.

Your first fight begins soon. You're entered into a tournament, filled with 32 warriors, all eager to earn their way up to the elite ranks of the Battleground.

32 warriors....only one will be left standing. IF you somehow win, you'll be able to rest for a day.

OOC: In this Battleground, there is a 'Save' Function. Pay 50gp, and you can 'save' your progress. From then on, when you die, you don't restart at the beginning, but exactly as you were at the Save point.

Be cautious with your use of Potions/Oils and Saves, though. You'll need that gold later on, when you can actually buy good equipment (which isn't often). Plus, your 'Score', which will be recorded on the Recruitment thread, is your current gold earned, minus the gold spent on consumables and on save points, and minus another 50gp for every death this character suffers.

The one-eyed orc holding the harpoon somehow manages to be so dull, drab and featureless that everyone has trouble remembering his name. People have started referring to him as "the one-eyed orc".

The one-eyed orc indicates his readiness.

You are escorted to a narrow corridor leading to the arena. As you come out, you find yourself looking at a 100'x100' square arena, with two small alcoves, 10' wide and sealed off by steel bars from the arena at the north and south. You start at the southernmost one.

An announcer starts talking:

WELCOME, ONE AND ALL, TO THE ARENA.

CITIZENS OF THE EMPIRE, A FIGHT YOU HAVE COME FOR, AND A FIGHT YOU SHALL HAVE. TODAY WE HAVE THE TOURNAMENT OF TRAITORS. ONLY ONE OF THESE CRIMINALS WILL WIN THE CHANCE TO JOIN THE RANKS OF OUR ELITE GLADIATORS, AND TO FIGHT HIS WAY UP TO EARN FREEDOM.

WARRIORS, THIS IS A FIGHT TO THE DEATH. IF YOU SURRENDER, YOU WILL BE SLAIN.

Watching the bolts miss wildly, he steps forward 20', and hurls an harpoon at the goblin.

Ok, how? You are aware I'm making one attack a turn? The second roll is the crit confirm if I threaten, so I've only done 13 damage so far.

Oh, and btw, it's got an enhancement bonus, bypassing the DR.

Aah. I thought I was getting two bolts per round in the face, and that you just wrote out the threat range once.

Excellent news! I am less dead than I thought I was. I am at -7 (11 HP total - 19 damage dealt + 1 for last round's fast healing), improving to -6 on my turn.

What DR/magic? Where did I get some of that? :smalltongue:


Anywho, I am ready to chaaaaaaaaaaaaarge! Harpoon to the face, delivered in melee:

It hits, but doesn't do full damage. You also take [roll0] damage, or [roll1] if the first is 6 or less. (Fire damage)

On his turn, he spits at you, provoking an AoO, but you're not holding a weapon.
Needs a touch attack roll. In next post.

You take [roll2] damage, or [roll3] if the first is 6 or less. (Acid damage.)

You should be able to get further, but your current problem is the 20' movespeed combined with your weapon not exactly being the best around.

I'd suggest swapping your weapon for a 2-handed weapon like a greatsword, but the build is good enough to get to day 2 with some luck.

I would recommend saving regularly though.
