I'm making an underwater party, complete with a wizard, but it turns out that none of the core familiar options can breath underwater. So what are some possible options? are there any especially magic-alligned fishes out there?

Well, Improved Familiar (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/feats.htm#improvedFamiliar) gives you the option of a water elemental at level 5. That *should* be able to breathe water....

Stormwrack suggests
Eel: +3 to escape artist
Octopus: +3 to grapple
Sea Snake: +3 to bluff

The last one can't actually breath water though. Maybe just allow various types of fish?

The octopuss familiar is integral to the grapplemancer build. At almost any level, the wizard can outgrapple the monk or the fighter. For this reason only, I can't see the virtue in any other underwater critter.

Giant Archerfish (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showpost.php?p=3806832&postcount=2)
I'd say it gives you a bonus to ranged attacks.

Wellspring Newt (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=11287)
+4 bonus to saves against poison?

You could always add the water elemental grafts from Magic of Eberron to your familiar.
