So, I'm going to be playing in a D20 Modern campaign, starting at the end of this month. One thing I've noticed, while perusing the various sourcebooks is that Full BaB isn't exactly handed out like fliers at Wal-Mart. I'm cool with that. What I'm not so cool with is who is omitted: Soldier, Gunslinger, Archaic Weaponmaster and Swashbuckler all lack Full BaB, despite being obviously combat focused classes. What gives? How does a soldier not make sense to have Full BaB? Or a gunslinger? Why should professional fighting-types have the same BaB as the resident divine caster?

Average is the standard combat-specialist BAB in d20 Modern. It's very stingy with a full BAB, reserving that for only the Strong Hero and Martial Artist (in core), AKA combat classes that need an edge.

This is largely because combat is so much more lethal in d20 Modern than it is in D&D. If people hit as often as they do in D&D, everyone would die a lot faster.

The tough hero also represents the tank/defender archetype. He's designed to take hits, not hit hard. The same applies to the soldier, gunslinger, etc. They're meant to be all around good at taking hits and dealing hits.

Besides, it's very very difficult to get the same AC bloat in d20 modern than it in 3E so having an average BAB shouldn't be anything to cry about.
