Hi, I'm currently in the process of making a new type of RPG game but with modern weapons and realist life etc. I do not need help on the system which involves D20 for the main things.
What I need help with is general brainstorming of potential skills and weapons and the such. I have made 7 classes so far:
Commander
Demolistions Specialist (Demo)
Heavy Weapons (H.Weaps)
Medic
Soldier
Special Ops Marine (S.O.M.)
Survivalist

If I have miss out a class you think I should put in or skills that would fit into modern warfare, or weapons and how they'd work, anything would be appreciated. If you want a brief description on what each is just post (I don't want to make this pointlessly long).

Thanks in advance.

Any more details on your system? D6s, D10s, levelling, no levelling, mostly freeform, tactical simulator...?

Ahh yes sorry bout that.

Most skills and shots etc use the D20 to which you add your aim bonus (BAB in D&D3.5) to beat their defence + cover bonus (basically AC) and then D% to see how well you hit if you do the % will then show what condition you left the target in. Other rolls are in D10's but again this thread was designed for helpful ideas so if you think a realistic game should be played differently then say. There will be levelling which will be faster then other games, due to the higher chance of dying.

Tactics will be a main feature due to the fact you don't have HP as such. Health would be done by the condition your in for instance bleeding, deep injury, urgent care required (shot in a critical place and/or bleeding out fast but can be saved) and then after that death. You'd have some sort of blood counters and after so many have gone you pass out and then if too many go you die.

any comment would be appreciated and views are definitely welcome.

Well you could add skills for using pistols, rifles, automatic weapons, computers, hacking, Knives, mounted weapons, sneaking (move silently + hide), lock picking, electronic lock picking. Tons of stuff, Check out the skills list for Battlelords of the 23rd century, will have a lot of what you are looking for.

Ok thanks I'll check it out.

You know where I can find a PDF of it?

Shouldn't cover modify the d% roll and not the chances of hitting you?

Anyway, for skills I recommend:

Pistols (includes auto-pistols)
Rifles (includes auto-rifles)
Shotguns
Mounted Weapons
Knives
Archaic (swords, clubs, etc.)

Driving
Piloting
Lock Picking
Computer Use
Various Engineering/Knowledge skills
Lying
Negotiating

D% was used instead of HP. For instance if you where shot in the chest you would have a 30% chance of out right death (this and the following is without armour i.e. kevlar) 60% chance to be critically wounded and a 10% chance to be bleeding but not not injured. and then you only last 10 rounds in each state (bleeding and critically wounded) before going to critically wounded (if in bleeding state before) or to death (if from critically wounded). And then add in feats that increase the chance of critically wounded or death etc. That might not have made any sense to but I hope it did.

However I am now think to do it without classes and do it point by point leveling each skill individually.

Oh and thanks about your skill suggestion

Hopefully not TOO realistic. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A5tRNs2X5Q4)
