I recently picked up the first book of the STRPG, for fun, and I am confused by the Starship Duty professional ability. It says it negates the prerequisites for elite professions, but is listed alongside those prerequisites, can someone explain?

Also, while we're at it, what does the playground think of the system?

Sounds like it replaces those prerequisites.

Aha! Cunning! Basically, Starship Duty is a cunningly badly worded way of saying "If you pick this, you are now a , and can pick both skillsets and ability sets! If you are [I]not a starship officer, you have to get there via prerequisites!"

But, to be fair, the prerequisites all make sense for officers of that position anyhoo. When in doubt, read the example.

EDIT: As to what I think of it, it's alright, but advancement can be a little slow for most players' tastes, and it either requires campaign homebrew skills or a knowledge of Trek bordering on the obsessive to run properly. Among a group of Trek fans, it can be quite fun. Among newbies, it's best to run a homebrew in that universe, ease 'em in.
