Rather boring when you watch it on Youtube, but if I was in one room with that thing, I would most certainly either run away in random direction, or bating it's head with this lamp over there.

I don't remember the "You're not perfect" thing from all those years of watching Courage. I think my mind blocked it out. :smalleek:

King Ramses, though, was awesome. It didn't scare me that much, but I was on the edge of my seat, especially near the end. In retrospect, one of my favorite Courage the Cowardly Dog episodes. (Coolness points to anyone who can guess my favorite episode. :smallwink:)

Man, I'm glad they started showing reruns again.

You know people, though the Internet has taken it in a different direction, the Uncanny Valley as a technical term means when something looks really close to a human, but not quite and this freaks people to the hell out. At least that's the theory. A lot of 'realistic' human CGI tends to take this quality, especially when in motion, as does a lot of the attempts at photorealism with real-time human CGI, as seen in computer games.
Compare for example, Shepherd from Mass Effect with the stylized characters of Team Fortress 2.

Yeah, it's the dip right before perfectly realistic, where it looks almost human, but is ever so slightly off. I assumed that Ponderthought thought the mannequin to look nearly human. My only thought while watching was "What is it supposed to be saying? I can't understand it."

He is? :smallconfused: I always thought Fred was a really cool antagonist. He's freaky, but he's not really a "bad" guy. Just a bit off in the head. I mean, compared to all the other stuff in Courage, why is he the top example of Nightmare Fuel? :smallconfused:

There's definitely something lacking. . .where the unsettling feeling ought to be. I've been more skeeved out by a good sculpture with an excellent grasp of anatomy. It was correct but created an illusion in the viewer's mind that was incorrect, so when the viewer went back to reality to trace the unsettling feeling, found no cause for it. Causeless upset is worse. Most of these don't have the subtlety to do that and just settle for the object itself being wrong, which is easy to dismiss.

Actually the reason the arm is weird is how the picture cuts it off at the wrist. It makes it seem like that arm is much longer than it should be.

OP. Oh god. Voice. So. ANNOYING. GROG WANT SMASH PUNY ELECTRONICS!

Oh lord, I know. But it's the face that gets me. Thing looks like a goddamn corpse.

I know that feeling..I occasionally get that feeling of strangeness without cause from certain buildings. Theres a few houses i refuse to enter simply because they seem..wrong, for no particular reason.

There is something to be said for some of the blatant "Oh good lord WTF IS THAT" things in this thread though.

I'm particularly sensitive to the 'Uncanny Valley', especially if it has something to do with the eyes.

Eyes are the one thing that I first find attractive in someone, and the first thing to give me the 'go for the shotgun' impulse.

May also be because I've always paid a lot of attention to body language. Certain things just stand out more to me... and they need to be bitten.

Clowns, mannequins and certain (but not all) deformities have always increased my blood pressure. I seriously hate masks that have no expression. Just those blank ones are creepier than any amount of fang. Guess what my two eldest sisters collected by the way? Yeah, one carnival masks, the other clowns.

However, my cuz up there with the teeth, it don't bother me the slightest. He's a cool freud

A Thread full of cool stuff!

Anyway, I think I've made myself immune to being unnerved with this sort of thing with my many years of delving into the strange, wierd, macabre, and right up unsettling. I think most of it is actually kinda cool and I like the tiny thrill that comes up when the brain says, 'Wait, that's not quite right...' Though that thrill might be a learned responce from what I mentioned above. I suppose that's why I really like psycological thriller/horror stores/games...

Then again, I might just be one of these (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/NightmareFetishist) by nature. It would certainly explain my signature...

Also, for a bit of a changup, here is a nifty game (http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/541124) with nicely unsettling bits, especially near the end! Wooo!
