trying to collect as much source material as I can...

where did 3.5 begin and end in the dragon magazine run? does that question make sense? i'll rephrase. what was the very last issue # of dragon magazine that was 3.0, and what was the very first issue # that was 4.0?

i want 3.5 only.

in a related question, does anyone know a good (and legal) way to go about getting them?

*oh and which ones are particularly good?

also, dungeon magazine: same question

310 is the first, and all of the print magazines after that are 3.5.

All the 4E ones are digital, AFAIK.

You can buy hard and PDF copies on Paizo's site. It's handy, I've gotten a bunch that way.

edit: Here you go. (http://paizo.com/store/paizo/dragon/issues)

Paizo has some back issues, obviously. And they have some as pdfs, if you like that. eBay often has individual magazines, but also often a year's worth or more in a single lot. Amazon has some, if not directly through third parties.

FLGS? Yard sales?

3.0 begin with Dragon mag 274, 3.5 really begin in issue 310 but they were a few preview in 308 and 309 I believe. And it end with issue 359. They're was a an internet only issue 360.

Sorry nope.

Hard to tell, it really depend on what your searching for. I really like issue 357 for the spell sovereign prc for example.

3.0 begin with issue 82, 3.5 I'm not sure shortly before issue 100 I believe.

edit: ninja'd

My local library has some copies of Dragon Magazine. Check yours.

My local gaming store also carries back issue of dragon, so maybe yours does too.

310, 311, and 312 are all great for variant base classes for the PHB versions of the Cleric, Necromancer Wizard, and Fighter, as well as Spell Templates for the Wizard, PrCs for Bard and Rogue, et al.

313 is also really cool for its treasure trove of templates, including the infamous Half-Minotaur (one of the more broken +1LA templates, IMO). Additionally, I believe 312 is the one with a slew of Savage Progressions for various celestials, IIRC.

I find that Dragon 341 comes into play quite a lot for its Soulknife feats. Most of them suck nearly as much as the class itself, but if you're trying to optimize one you need all the options you can get and there are virtually none in any of the regular 3.5 psionics books. Dragon 341 has feats to shape your Mind Blade into the type of weapon you want to use, change its special abilities faster, and Practiced Mind Blade so you can multiclass without further slowing your weak progression. They fill two pages with feats but the rest are things like Align Mind Blade and Mind Shield that aren't especially useful.

336 has the Mystic Ranger.
318 updates Oriental Adventures.
356 has eldritch claws.
Get'em.

Yeah, there's one out there with elemental ninja variants (the original ninja being the air elemental variant)

I believe that it is Dragon 354 that has the elemental ninja variants.

325 has alternate spell source, which is cool if you're into that sort of silliness

328 has force missile mage, which is classy if you're into magic missiles

I know 342, 351, and 354 all have some nice stuff for the ninja class (particularly 354).

DR 310 has a bunch of Fighter variants, which are exceedingly useful (though make the class even more dippable).

DR 319 has some mundane items of interest, including stuff for poisoners.

DR 325 has a slew of multiclass feats (in addition to ASS) so that's a nice one to have.
