How to get in:
Simply give (via post or PM) your name and your realm, and I can find the rest. Of course, it'll go faster if you give your level, race, class, and an armory link. Spec is optional -- you're free to give it, but if you don't think it's important or you're experimenting, that's fine too.

If you see the level listed here is way behind your current level, or your spec's been changed, post or PM me to update it! You could also alert me when, say, you've deleted your character, race changed it, name changed it, server transferred it...

The Challenge -- or, how to make Linker leap off cliffs for your amusement.
I'm a perfectionist. Every mistake you find in this here list will net you a Point. This could be something like a bad link, but a missing capital letter, improper spacing, inconsistencies, anything is worth a Point. The more notoriously anal you are, the more Points you get. The person who gets the most Points gets to make the next one if they're so damn good at it to ask me to make an alt on their server to be their slave for an hour. And I will yell insulting things at nearby high-levels at your urging. :smallamused:

Alternatively, suggestions to help improve the list (whether in clarity or any other way) that I accept also nets Points. But that's not as fun.

Caigin is now level 75. You can also add Lycanbras (a level 60 Death Knight) to the list. He was created, initially, as a character to stand in as a bank alt for the small guild I lost last time I got hacked. He may or may not ever advance beyond level 60.

I'm wondering about the accuracy of that emblem-to-Justic Point conversion, since it values Frost Emblems and Triumph Emblems at the exact same amount each. Does that seem logical?

So, we'll have a few months to play around in new Azeroth before Cata is actually released? Awesome, that means I get to go do all the new quests on Roy for my amusment!

Also, might as well add my two main alts to the list:

Raltias 80 belf priest (Tailoring/Enchanting)

The way I was reading it, 4.0.1 comes out very soon, but it only deals with class changes, reforging, and little else. (http://www.wowwiki.com/Patch_4.0.1) It does not change the world, though it does add some Cataclysm prologue stuff. 4.0.3 will be the world-changing patch (http://www.wowwiki.com/Patch_4.0.3), and it will come out later, just before Cataclysm proper.

Actually, here's an excellent comparison (http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.html?topicId=26726037173&sid=1&pageNo=2#31) on the matter I found in my searches.

Something notable is that Mastery is getting added with 4.0.1, and while there will be no Mastery items dropping, we'll be able to reforge our gear to include Mastery. Got an excess of Hit? Mastery!

So, what with the release date being pushed back, I decided to take a shot at the ZG mounts. No dice, but solo'd Hakkar*, got [The Deadliest Catch], and made like a bandit in Bijous and Coins. Will be returning.

*I managed to down everyone except the bat boss. Stupid heal. Made Hakkar very annoying on account of the silence. I didn't beat the enrage timer, but Seal and Judgement of light + defense trinket + Lay on Hands + Ardent Defender got me through with about 7k health to spare. Fun last minute or so.

Gives people who have all the Emblem of Triumph gear they want an incentive to keep going to random Heroics more than once a day.

Pity they didn't SS any of the 'current items' vendors, so we could get an idea of the conversion rate. The Honor Points conversion was listed a bit back, but I haven't seen what the equivalent rate will be for emblems to Justice points.

Also...thread's going to cap out this page. Did we make a decision on the new title? I'd hate to, y'know, abuse my power and use my own suggestion unless it was the most popular one.

I had several of those earlier in the previous topic. I'll dig them up and edit them in.

And yes, they are indeed valuing EoFrost and EoTriumph the same in the conversion. And EoFrost will be worth about 1/5 to 1/10 of what they are now.

====================================

EDITTING IN

BoA shoulders & chest (40 badges) = 435 Justice Points.
Epic Gems (Dreadstone etc) = 108 Justice Points.
60-badge EoFrost Trinkets = 1100 Justice Points.
t10 head/chest/legs = 1100 Justice Points.
t10 gloves/shoulders = 694 Justice Points.

The conversion rates, spoilered for length.

Here's some information on how each of the currencies will be converted in the next content patch. Keep in mind these values may change, and they can get a bit math heavy. Just know that our intent is to appropriately value each mark and provide a conversion we feel is fair.

The following items are immediately converted to gold:

Emblem of Heroism = 5.5 gold each

Emblem of Valor = 5.5 gold each

Emblem of Conquest = 5.5 gold each

Badge of Justice = 1.833 gold each

Your New Honor Points total will be the sum of the following amounts:

Old Honor * 0.024

Old Arena Points * 0.85

Battleground Mark of Honor * 2.976

Wintergrasp Mark of Honor * 19.08

Stone Keeper Shard * 1.6

Venture Coin * 3

Spirit Shard * 1

Your Justice Points total will be equal to (Emblems of Triumph + Emblems of Frost ) * 2.75

Again, the softcap for both Honor and Justice conversions is 4000 points. This means that if a character converts to above 4,000 points, it will not be possible for them to earn more until they fall below the 4,000 cap.

A hardcap will be implemented in a following patch before Cataclysm's release. At that time, any excess points above 4,000 will be converted as follows:

Honor points above 4,000 are converted to gold at a rate of 35 silver per point of Honor.

Justice points above 4,000 are converted to gold at a rate of 2 gold per point of Justice.

Yay new thread!

I'll go ahead and list my current characters (all on Argent Dawn, in addition to my little RP druid Calvenar; I can't access Armory from where I am at the moment, but I can later):
-Mohlram: 80 Disc/Shadow Priest
-Eldrak: 80 Combat Rogue (though I might change to Subtlety, depending on where the two specs are once Cata actually releases)
-Krosp: 80 Protection/Fury Warrior (though I might change Fury to Arms, depending on where the two specs are once Cata actually releases; Prot's still his focus, though)
-Vessili: 80 Fire Mage

Though I'm committed to Elemental/Resto shaman for the most part, my eye is wandering all over the place from all the awesome changes. I've got special eye on a Holy Paladin and an Unholy Death Knight, but odds are I'll be content with the Shaman for the most part, and there's a whole lot of new content (thus showing the importance of inflection :smallwink: ) to explore. I think my Shammy's also going to be my Skinner/Leatherworker, as well as my Archaeologist.

New characters though:

Bronzebeard - Horde - Tyraena, level 34 Blood Elf protection paladin
Proudmoore - Alliance - Avak, level 60 Human Frost Death Knight (DPS)
Mal'Ganis - Horde - Maldibion, level 58 Tauren Blood Death Knight (Tank)
Kil'Jaeden - Alliance - Krotera, level 14 Draenei Restoration Shaman

Changes - Zulmaran's been survival for awhile now.

Vhalahan is level 27, Arms spec.

Gratz, Even. This is my second year of trying to get that damn kodo on my main--I just know that one of my alts is going to get it.

All I need to do is get that one mount, and then I've saved myself 16k gold from not having to buy one of the truly massive goldsink mounts. Two more random drops after that, and I'll have saved myself a grand total of 40k.

In PvE? Yes, fairly insignificant. Especially when bosses can be doing upwards of 100k/s in the heroics (Squee).

I suspect it'll significantly impact PvP though. Areas and battleground will no longer be about the biggest burst damage.

Uh if they're removing the portals from Dalaran why would you go there? Seems like it would be incredibly awkward to get anywhere in the old world from Dalaran with no portals.

Are they removing the class trainers from the game? With no ranks in skills I'd imagine it would make more sense to just give everyone the skills they're supposed to get at each level. Either way I guess it won't be as bad as the previous two expansions since the trainers will be in the same area that you're leveling in (well same continent at least).

Well, to be fair, time is but a window (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/Ghostbusters) They've done weirder things as far as retcons and time instabilities and so forth. It makes me wonder what they're going to do with Outlands and Northrend in the larger scheme, so as to show time passing inside those areas as well as outside, but for now, I'm happy with the changes they're making to what will no longer be called The Old World.

Regarding trainers, you still have to buy access to spells from your trainer, they just level up automatically as you advance. They make your spellbook tell you when you have a new spell to learn, and what spell it is, and so forth. You gain new spells every other even level, and new talents every odd level (except 10, when you open your specialization; you gain a talent point at 10, 11, 13, and every odd level thereafter). I don't think they'll get rid of training costs altogether, but they may reduce them from where they are now - then again, they seem to ramp up the money you get from quests and from selling grey crap, so it's likely to not be that big of an issue.

Anyway, so, spike healing versus triage healing, and health pools versus PVE damage. Can I get some analysis from someone who knows what's up?

And that would cause exactly as many people to gleefully cry out "LOLORE" as there are currently complaining that Blizzard isn't addressing the issue at all. Heh, quite true.

That said, I've heard some (unsubstantiated) rumours that some changes have been made to Outland and Northrend to eliminate the more... obvious contradictions. Mostly quest text and some NPCs getting moved around. Dunno if there's any factual basis for this.

If you go to the Outlands, you travel back in time. Lore wise, you don't go there, and the Burning Crusade is over. If you do go back, then that's why noone goes "OH noes, scourge."

Ah, but levels themselves are merely game representations. Perhaps, lorewise, you go from battling the elements in Winterspring to saving Mount Hyjal from Ragnaros. If it suits you, in between you have a vivid flashback to your days in Outland and Northrend. :smalltongue:

Uh if they're removing the portals from Dalaran why would you go there? Seems like it would be incredibly awkward to get anywhere in the old world from Dalaran with no portals.

Because its now for leveling through that expansion's Content. Its not going to be a universal travel gateway anymore but a city for the area.

If your a high and mighty 80+ your going to be back in the Old world doing things and if you need a Portal because your too lazy to fly somewhere then find a Mage or do without.

I keep reading this, and it still sounds so very lazy on Blizzard's part. "Oh no, you just go back in time". 'Specially for a place like Northrend, where the Scourge are still a canonical problem(albiet stymied by Bolvar's influence). Heck, there's no reason for Outland to not still be covered in demons, because there are a lot of demons.

But going out of their way to give an incredibly flimsy excuse like time travel just leaves foul taste in my mouth.

What's the source for the statement that Outland and Northrend will be "time-travel"?

Well, there's not much to do the Outlands at least, unless you wanted to help Akama cleanse the Black Temple (No monster killing involved.) or the Kurenai and Mag'har start cleansing the world at large.

As for Northrend, I can't think of too much reason to quest there right now. Tirion is taking back his former home, and apparently working towards fighting Deathwing.

As for the Lich King? There's a spell associated with the fight against Ragnaros called "Chill of the Throne" or somesuch.

So, I ended up being kicked from the guild I was in. I was sort of hoping to transfer to Mal'Ganis, but I can only transfer one of my two 80s. I might find another server, but 25$ for one transfer is still about all I can afford now.

We’ve revised the Justice Points conversion rate for Emblems of Triumph and Emblems of Frost. When the upcoming 4.0.1 patch goes live, these emblems will be converted into 11.58 Justice Points (up from the previously planned 2.75 Justice Points per emblem). Justice Points accrued above the soft cap of 4,000 will be converted to gold at a rate of 47.5 silver per point (down from 2 gold per point) when patch 4.0.3 goes live.

The original explanation thread (http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.html?topicId=26850245012) and the subsequent conversion math update (http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.html?topicId=26850245012&sid=1&pageNo=10#184) have been updated to reflect these changes.

So yeah, slightly more than 4 times as many Justice Points as we were getting before.

Because that's what Blizzard decided.

No, that really is all the explanation we've been given from the horses' mouths.

Now, what I suspect is that they want to encourage people that don't necessarily need Triumphs to continue running heroics through 4.0's release. This means that people like me (who still get use out of both) can still have reasonable queue times. Otherwise the number of people that would go into waiting-not-playing would be much larger than it already is (and I suspect this number already exceeds 30% of the subsriber base).

The unifed conversion rate MAY have also been put in place to discourage the current trend of skipping as many bosses as possible. If I cared about achievements on my alts, for example, my paladin would be having a hard time getting them from several bosses everyone skips now. In fact, she got 2 in HoS this morning because the tank insisted on doing all the bosses for the Triumph badges

Finally, the more high-end players have far more Triumph badges already than they need. So it likely figured into the decision to "reward" the high-end players this way.

So you start out as a young worgen in Gilneas, a beginning adventurer. You level to 60, hearing stories of how Illidan and Arthas were defeated. You go through the Dark Portal, and you're "going back to when you were going to Outland* for the first time," even though that character never actually did travel to Outland before the events of Cataclysm. Somehow. Or, does Azeroth no longer produce heroes except by retconning? Every newly created character is to be retconned into having actually begun his/her career before the Dark Portal opened--even if this postdates that (worgen) character's adventuring career to well before his/her race could expect to set foot in Stormwind City without being lynched as monsters?

In other news, after testing pirate genocide and being disappointed that it only levels 3 reps at a time once you hit Revered, I've tried Dire Maul runs.

Anybody that tells you Dire Maul is faster? They're either lying, never tried pirate genocide, or is making this argument based on Dire Maul leveling all 4 reps at once. I suppose it could also be true if someone is doing pirate genocide themselves and won't/can't let you join them...

So up to revered, unless you're trying for Insane In The Membrane, pirate genocide is quicker. After that, maybe you should look at Dire Maul.

I make a point of inviting any lowbies I come across during my pirate genocide to my group so I can help them get their quests done so they can leave me alone that much faster.

Pirate genocide might only level three reps once you hit Revered, but if you manage that with Ratchet or Gadgetzan you can just swap to the other area, thus negating the "problem" for a while.

It's really not any slower at Revered anyway, since for me Booty Bay will be the last of those four factions to max out, and the speed at which I gain Booty Bay rep will be the same whether I gain rep with three factions or four. And even if I somehow manage to get Booty Bay done before Everlook, that place depends entirely on spillover rep.

So, Hunters got another hilariously large nerf.

SlyGuyMcFly
2010-10-01, 12:47 PM
OK, the following is a nice bombshell, so I'm just gonna copypasta the whole thing:

Almost six months ago we announced that Cataclysm raids were being redesigned to make both raid sizes the same difficulty, drop the same quality of loot, and exist in the same lockout. This evolution in raid philosophy is built on the belief that the size of your raiding group should be a choice based solely on what's more fun and enjoyable for you, and that you should not have to complete the same raiding content twice in a week to maximize your character's progression. These systems are the culmination of a great deal of design and player feedback from the last few years. With the release of the 4.0.1 patch, the new Flexible Raid Lock system will debut in Icecrown Citadel and The Ruby Sanctum.

With the Flexible Raid Lock system, instead of being locked to a specific raid size or raid group, each character will have the opportunity to defeat each raid encounter once a week. You could kill Lord Marrowgar and Lady Deathwhisper with a 10-player raid on Wednesday, join a 25-player raid to kill Festergut and Rotface on Thursday, and then lead a completely new 10-player raid to kill The Lich King on Friday. Every raid has a list of encounters associated with the zone. For example, Icecrown Citadel has twelve encounters. After you defeat Lord Marrowgar, you can open up your character's raid information dialog and see the list of encounters in Icecrown Citadel with Marrowgar marked as defeated. You may no longer fight Lord Marrowgar with any raid size or difficulty until the weekly raid reset for your region occurs.

Another key change is that if you join someone else's raid in progress, you are no longer locked to that raid after merely zoning in. Your raid status will only change when a boss is defeated, at which point it will be updated to reflect the state of the instance in which you are currently participating. So, let's say you have killed the first four bosses of Icecrown Citadel, and you then join a raid that has defeated the first four encounters, as well as Festergut and Rotface. The dialog that displays upon entering Icecrown Citadel will show that the raid has defeated 6 of 12 encounters. If you help them defeat Professor Putricide, then you would be marked as having defeated not only Professor Putricide for the week, but also Festergut and Rotface. If instead after joining the raid you then proceeded to wipe ten times to Professor Putricide, you could leave the raid with only the first four bosses marked as completed.

To help communicate to players which bosses are dead in the raid leader's raid, there is new functionality to link in chat a list of the encounters the raid has defeated. So before you join a raid, you can see what they've already defeated. If a raid leader advertises in chat that she needs another healer for an 8/12 Icecrown Citadel run, you can see precisely which bosses are still available to fight. If you were only looking for that one item from Queen Lana'thel that never drops for you and this raid already defeated her, you will know not to join that raid.

Let's look at another example of the Flexible Raid Lock system. A guild schedules three nights for 25-player Icecrown Citadel raiding on Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday. On Wednesday, the raid defeats Lord Marrowgar, Lady Deathwhisper, Icecrown Gunship Battle, and Saurfang. On Thursday, five people cancel their raid attendance due to real life emergencies. The raid leader knows that if he cancels Thursday raiding, there's little chance they'll have enough time on Saturday to defeat the other eight bosses in Icecrown Citadel. So he splits the remaining 20 Thursday raiders into two 10-player raids. Each new raid enters Icecrown Citadel and defeats Rotface, Festergut, Blood Council, and Valithria Dreamwalker. The next Saturday with all 25 players online, they reform as a 25-player raid and enter Icecrown Citadel once more. Only Professor Putricide, Queen Lana'thel, Sindragosa, and The Lich King remain. After a tough fight, the Lich King falls and everybody celebrates. Without the Flexible Raid Lock system the entire raid probably would have missed out on a night of raiding, and likely would not have reached the Lich King.

While players can freely move between raids of different sizes in normal difficulty, there are some additional rules for Heroic difficulty. If a 10- or 25-player raid defeats a boss on Heroic difficulty, then those players may now only raid additional Heroic encounters with that specific raid. If your Heroic 25-player raid defeats the first four bosses of Icecrown Citadel on Heroic, then they may not split up into two 10-player raids and continue to fight in Heroic difficulty. You may also not join someone else's raid if they have defeated a Heroic encounter.

But let's say you are a member of a Heroic raid in Icecrown Citadel, and after killing Lord Marrowgar on Heroic you have Internet connection issues that prevent you from raiding for two nights. During those two nights, the rest of the raid kills everything. Without the Flexible Raid Lock system, you would be done with raiding Icecrown Citadel for the week. Ouch. With the Flexible Raid Lock system, you can join someone else's raid as long as they are doing Normal difficulty. This would at least give you the opportunity to earn your Justice Points for the week. If this raid attempted to switch to Heroic difficulty for Icecrown Gunship Battle with you in the raid, the raid leader would receive an error message stating that she cannot change to Heroic, because someone in the raid (i.e., you) is already locked to a different Heroic instance.

All of the new Cataclysm raids will feature the Flexible Raid Lock and Dynamic Difficulty systems, and when the Cataclysm occurs the other Wrath of the Lich King raids will also have these features. It's important to note that this system doesn't affect Heroic dungeons, they will work as they always have. We look forward to feedback for this new system after 4.0.1 is released. As a reminder, Icecrown Citadel and The Ruby Sanctum are the only two raids that support the Flexible Raid Lock until the Cataclysm occurs.

So, Hunters got another hilariously large nerf. They've just been reworking them to fit the new mechanic. The most recent beta patches have improved them from WORTHLESS to DECENT. MM still needs a bit more tweaking, but hunters are going to be fine.

As for the release date, from the Azeroth Bulletin a little while ago:

Speaking to a small conglomerate of various Alliance representatives, Mekkatorque pointed out that the time to strike is now. After all, Thermaplugg has eluded death for years to keep his reign over Gnomeregan; and with the fall of the Lich King, the last great threat to the citizens of Azeroth, the chance of any cataclysmic event taking place in the foreseeable future is "less than 12.7%," Mekkatorque's leading combat medical advisor Doc Cogspin purported.

Implementing the flexible raid thing is interesting now. Seems a little odd to me though. There are different loot tables for 10 and 25 man ICC. You now cannot do both in the same week. Considering you can't split the raid when done on heroic this is a bit of a pain considering some pieces are BIS from 10 man whereas the rest come from 25 man. I mean the gear is hardly relevant at this point but still for the completionists its a bit of a kick in the balls.

My bet is that they're implementing it in ICC to make sure they can smooth out all the kinks in the system before it gets put into a raid where people care about the progression.

Hey, a couple questions for you folks...

- Is it worth killing myself, in my crummy gear, to even try to go for Kingslayer at this point?
- Is it worth upgrading gear with badges, or should I convert it all to gold/justice points?
- Should I learn new JC recipes, or use my jewelcrafter tokens to get a ton of Dragon's Eyes and sell them before the market collapses?

As far as I know, kingslayer won't get patched out, so if you only want the title, and not the "prestige" associated with it, you can easily wait.

And if you're not planning on Kingslayer, no use updating your gear, unless you want to raid. As soon as Cataclysm hits the shelves (and Azeroth), all those epics are going to be worthless, but your Justice Points will still be worth soemthing.

I will be amazed if the Kingslayer title can be gained after Cataclysm is out, any more than Champion of the Naaru or Hand of A'dal could after Wrath of the Lich King was out.

Its possible (though I'd guess unlikely) that Kingslayer would be removed in 4.0. Hand of A'dal and Champion of the Naaru got removed significantly before Wrath.

In hindsight (always 20/20, I know), it should have been more obvious that they'd aim for such an infamous (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Attack_on_Pearl_Harbor) date.

On a more humorous note, the manager at work just asked why so many of us have put in for that day off

Will the new Race/class combinations (not Worgen/ Goblin), be available prior to Cataclysm? Or do you have to have a Cataclysm account to create an Orc mage or a Troll Druid?

They will be available to everyone shortly before the release of Cataclysm when The Shattering takes place.

Well now, that's an interesting development (especially for my stated intent to turn my priest into a gnome).

And... twice the key didn't drop at all. A not-so-beautiful thing...

Yeah. Make that four times now the key didn't drop. Last night after putting the kids to bed, I decided to take an hour-ish to hit a few runs before diving into some freelance work I have. So I get my butt to DM, apply poison and figure I'll go until the poison runs out - it's a nice built-in timer. I then proceed to get two straight runs through DM without the stupid shackle key dropping! :smallfurious:

RE: That Darn Shackle Key. I'm not sure what the rate is supposed to be, and my sample size is around a dozen. But I've had 4 runs without a key and 2 runs with 2 keys.

------------------

My next priority depends heavily on what the weekly raid is this week. I'm hoping for an easy one; if it is, I've got a good chance of getting the EoFrost libram on my paladin before 4.0.1.

If not, the priority becomes getting the priest to 75 (she's currently 70), the better to have her ready to start the next tier of alchemy immediately when Cata hits.

-------------------

Another note for interested parties. Apparently 4.0.1 is also the end-date for turning Honor into Epic Gems.

I'm killing everybody (well, ogres anyway - I'm ignoring the bugs) until the key drops. And in my experience so far, bosses have the key less frequently. I've run about 20 times so far, and only twice has a boss had the key.

Actually, I've had the best luck with the one that spawns when you grab the tannin. Both of the times when I've gotten a double key, it's been because he dropped it too.

Zherog
2010-10-05, 12:49 PM
OK - I've had it drop off a boss three times. He was one of my double-drops as well. Actually, now that I think about it, I've had it drop of bosses four times. Once from the guard in the courtyard by the front door, once of the guard in the same area as the goblin, once off the tannin guy, and once off the guard right before the king. Every other time I've had it drop, it was off one of the regular ogres. My favorite was when the key dropped off the third ogre I killed - nice, fast run. :)

So we decided to extend our raid lock for few more attempts on the king and after a few wipes on the phase 2.5 to phase 3 transition one run went surprisingly smooth, no deaths, no weird defiles, no problem with the valkyries and we killed him. Like 10 minutes ago. I'm a kingslayer.

And holy **** my heart was beating like crazy those last few percentages. Also I got the staff woo go me. I guess I'm still in a bit of a shock after finally getting him down.

A notice of public interest that some may not be aware of:

The cost of heirlooms in 4.0.1 has been intentionally increased above what they currently cost to match the gain of points players will see at level 85. It's recommended that if you want to buy heirlooms you do so now before 4.0.1 is released, or wait until after purchasing Cataclysm, leveling to 85, and running that content for points.

So yeah. Get your heirlooms now folks.

Don't drop any; you'll want 55 in Cataclysm for the United Nations achievement. Assuming Guild Reputation counts, I'll have *just* done it--and that's without Warsong Gulch, Arathi Basin or the four non-Cartel Insane factions (61 total factions). If it doesn't count, well... I'll have to see. Shen'dralar rep seems a likely candidate if the Librams and other mats are cheaper than decks.

I've got almost a full set :smallcool: I've debated starting a worgen balance druid at some point in the expansion, but currently I think I'm going to wait until the 1-85 heirlooms are available and get those for that character.

The only major hierloom I skipped is the +mana on kill trinket. I currently only have one character that would benefit (the shadow priest) and she doesn't have many mana problems. So I might go ahead and score that one.

RE: Reps. The goblin reps will put me over 35. 40 isn't looking too good before the expansion for me. A lot will depend on how much time I have during 4.0.1 between the expansion event (on at least the main) and trying to get the priest to 75 (currently 70) so she can immediately start the next their of alchemy when 4.0.3 hits.

Confirmed that there are no planned changes for the Argent Tournament heirlooms prices or otherwise.

I actually witnessed a rarity on my server tonight -- the Alliance lost a WG defense where the horde... had no tenacity.

Try to understand, I've only seen the horde without at least 3-5 stacks of tenacity once or twice. And I've WG'd quite a bit, albeit not for the last couple of weeks.

I checked around, and apparently several of my server's top-end guilds are essentially in hibernation. My paladin actually had to wait 16 minutes for the LFG queue tonight (although 2-3 minutes of that were 3 declined queues).

Okay, important update (http://blue.mmo-champion.com/t/27026399005/cataclysm-justice-point-drop-quantities/).

Although we’ve revealed some details of the conversion process, many of you have asked how many Justice and Valor Points bosses and daily dungeons will actually award. This list is incomplete, and the values may still change, but it covers the majority of the content we’ve been asked about.

Lich King Heroic dungeon boss -- 16 Justice Points
Lich King daily normal dungeon -- 12 Justice Points
Lich King daily Heroic dungeon -- 23 Justice Points
Lich King raid boss -- 23 Justice Points

Cataclysm Heroic dungeon boss -- 75 Justice Points
Cataclysm daily normal dungeon -- 75 Justice Points
Cataclysm daily Heroic dungeon -- 75 Valor Points
Cataclysm 10-player raid boss -- 75 Valor Points
Cataclysm 25-player raid boss -- 105 Valor Points

It’s important to note that once you outgrow content, by leveling past it by a predetermined amount, you’ll no longer gain points. The ‘outgrown’ level for end-game Wrath of the Lich King content is likely to be level 81. Once you level beyond Lich King content you’ll still be able to enter the dungeons, kill bosses, and see their drops, but they will not award you with points. This same principle applies to all content that provides Justice Points, including content from The Burning Crusade.

---------------------------------------------

(Later in the same post)

Just a quick note that the points listed here aren't final, we're still trying to balance the numbers. Specifically for Cataclysm drops. It's possible they may still change.

Wait, level 70s can get Justice Points from Burning Crusade content? Very interesting. I wonder when it starts and stops. It would be weird if you could get Justice Points from heroic Burning Crusade dungeons for exactly one level (70), then nowhere from levels 71-79, then from heroic WotLK dungeons for exactly one level (80), then from heroic Cataclysm dungeons at exactly one level (85).

Karoht
2010-10-10, 03:20 AM
Oh, and something Karoht will be interested in, as it regards guild rep/score.

I think it's a good feature. The guild I used to be in used to keep track of people who pitched in, and we used to reward them whenever we could. We also had fun things going on all the time, like our Cloth/Primals draws (BC), and our Race from X to Y challenges every couple of weeks.
The guild leader (before she turned from super involved with the guild to dropping off the face of the earth the next day) honestly wished she had some kind of addon to track these sorts of things, and I'm sure she couldn't be the only guild leader wanting such metrics and tools. However, I'm sure there will be guild leaders out there who track these things and subsequently use the data the wrong way, kind of like Gearscore.

============

No explanation doesn't bother me. It's par for the course. Really stupid and nonsensical explanations bother me.
I agree. On the other hand...

I'm the exact opposite. No explanation at all bothers me, but I'm willing to accept something like time-travel caused by the Catacylsm because it's a fantasy-based game.
And because it is fantasy, and Blizzard does employ some excellent writers, if there is going to be an official reason, I'm sure it at least has a chance of falling into the 'semi-believeable fantasy' catagory rather than the 'completely bat-shot insane fantasy' catagory.

On the other hand, I don't look at the game as having a fixed timeline of events. I'm leveling up, that's my early years. I get to 60, I happen to get to that level at the time when Illidan was a relevant threat, so I head to outlands and contribute to that particular cause for a while. Then I hear that the LK has stirred up some trouble, so I go pitch in out in Northrend. And so forth. At least, that's how I looked at it prior to Cataclysm. Now I somewhat scratch my head about the whole thing. Although, there's still an army of demons out in outlands, and there is still a ravenous undead horde running about (which bolivar may or may not be yet able to control, so much as he can keep them in their disorganized, non goal focused state rather than them being fixed on a particular objective), so my character will still help out with those issues during his/her progression.

Or another way to look at it is, it's relevant at the time, because that's when my character arrived on the scene. It's a bit character-centric rather than persistent world-centric, but it's simple enough. Just saying.

============
Congrats to anyone and everyone who acquired a mount, maxxed out a rep, completed a raid, scored a piece of loot, completed an achievement, or any such thing while I was away. I noticed quite a few in my perusal of the thread, it would take a while to list them all, so in the words of our fellow players: Gratz.

PS-Yes, I am indeed back from my trip to Florida. Having lived my life in Canada, spent my formative years in the rocky mountains (in canada and the US) as well as frequent visits to Europe between the ages of 10 and 18 (mostly due to relatives funerals) I must say that Florida was a strange place to me.
For example, Florida is supposed to be a place where mostly older people go. People who might perhaps have poorer vision than others. So why are all the road signs (especially with 4 word long road names in some cases) all written in a severely narrow font that makes the word harder to read? Also, in 2252 miles of driving over a 2 week period, only about 10 vehicles actually used a turn signal when entering the lane ahead of me. Yet in Montana, that was never an issue, even on back country roads. Odd.

My current theory is that old people hate turn signals for some strange reason. There was this old lady (like, at least 70 or so) that was driving me to school and back for a bit (long story), and I noticed that she changed lanes both without signaling and without looking. On a highway. When I asked, she said, "I don't need to do any of that, I know where the other cars are." As if it was a matter of course that there was no way she could POSSIBLY forget where a car was, or that it could go into her blind spot, or be trying to pass her quickly, or any other kind of random occurrences.

Add on the fact that she was telling me this while driving with one hand on the bottom of the wheel because her dog was sitting on top of it, while petting the dog with the other hand, and it was little time at all before I was riding a bike back and forth to school even though it was a 20-30 minute ride. :smalleek:

My life is made of goal farming. Cataclysm can't come fast enough.

I'm at 3,800 gold between characters, which means I only need 2,200 more before December 7th (to purchase my Shaman's epic flying and still have money in the bank for Azerothian Flying, Illustrious Profession training, etc). Ugh. I suck at this apparently.

I have a gold-farming related question, though. Gems are changing as of Tuesday; Int is a red gem, and +Spellpower no longer exists out side of weapons, offhands, and some enchants, yes?

So if I buy the yellow +intellect gem tomorrow from the gem vendor...will it become the red +int gem Tuesday night? Or will it be deleted and the +SP gem from Exalted Kirin Tor will turn to +int? Or will both those things happen?

Basically, is it worth buying gem recipes now, or should I not risk it in case something weird happens and just buy a bunch of Dragon's Eyes (or save up)?

<I know a better investment would be the epic recipe in any case, but I have rotten luck getting epic gems so I'm hoping to just play the initial market panic with blue gems actually selling for more than 10 gold. Lousy broken Elune economy...>

Good luck. I got Explorer over the weekend, which was really fun, and I think I'm going to work my way to Ambassador and then Crusader over the next few weeks. I briefly considered getting Loremaster, but I'm only at 300ish quests in Ek and Kalimdor. So no way.

Netherwing on the other hand progresses nicely. Only 5500 rep to go!

I also hatched my first Mysterious Egg. WoW never felt more like Pokémon  Got a Tickbird, so meh.

Other things I may try to get:

Argent Champion: Only need about 17k rep for that. And I can farm Strat for runecloth, DE material for my enchanter alt and a shot at the Baron's Charger.
Chef de Cuisine: 152/160 at the moment. It can't be that hard to find an extra 8 recipes lying around. I'm worried I'll have to farm the Barrens for Deviate Delight though :smallsigh:
Salty: Need to win the derby or the contest. So it's more luck than anything at this point.

Okay, I think I got the "dad" quota out of my system, let's talk WoW.

1> There used to be an add-on called EveryQuest. Not sure where it is or if it is up to date, but I found it quite helpful in my own effort to track down the quests I'd missed.

There's also the chain for the Sprite Darter pet a lot of people don't realize is as long as it is (read: worth a lot of quests).

3> There are a few cases of quest chains that start in Eastern Kingdoms but count primarily toward Kalimdor. The "Fallen Hero of the Horde" chain is one of those. Come to think of it, I'd better do the last couple steps of that before Azshara gets nerfed...

4> If you haven't already, don't worry too much about Silithis. A disturbing number of quests there don't count for some reason.

5> Can the horde do the Linken chain in Un'Goro? This is one of those things that will be going away, and frankly I think everyone should try it at least once. There is a step in Sunken Temple if I remember right, but if you're 80 you can solo that.

Yeah, EveryQuest is being very handy. I'm just going through all the zones in a quasi-ascending order -- finished Westfall yesterday, did Loch Modan and Elwynn Forest before that, etc. I'll get around to Feralas eventually. :smalltongue: The main reason I'm doing it this way is because I've also decided to get some secondary professions, so now I'm able to level up First Aid as I get the cloth I need, and Cooking as I get the ingredients I need. Yeup. Same with the Pre-BC patch.

My priorities for when the servers come back up are:
-Get into a Heroic, test out new heals prior to a raid environment
-Get into a Naxx raid, test out new heals prior to an ICC environment
-Fix stuff as necessary.

Also, nothing personal to anything or anyone, but I'm staying out of main cities for the next few days, possibly weeks. The astounding amount of dumb that is flooding the trade channel is overwhelming. The amount of dumb that will likely follow once the patch is actually live... yeah I'm not looking forward to that. Also, fiddled with my UI today. I never noticed that UI scale slider before. Combined with adjustments to Healbot, I can actually see 75%-90% of my screen, as opposed to significantly less that I had before.

Note that the state of the game in pre-patch at level 80 isn't really a good indicator for what cataclysm is going to be like. It shouldn't be completely broken, but it's not going to be especially...balanced. :smallwink:

It won't be until you start getting into level 85 heroics that you'll really see what the new healing model is worth.

Well, made some last emblem purchases before the prices go up. This included a glove upgrade on my paladin, which had gem slots... which I almost forgot and slotted. Silly me, I need to see what all the new gem stats are first.

I've worked out my mage's specs (I'm sticking with a frost & an arcane), but the druid's feral spec still isn't quite working for me. I have looked at the resto alt at all, or any of my other characters. I suspect I'm going to be buried in the character trees for the next night or so.

I still don't qualify for [Epic]. My trinkets are iLevel 200, because the ones purchasable with Triumph are packed full of Hit, and I really don't need that. And since I don't raid...

I've had Epic! on the main for a bit. I've scored Epic! on the druid and Superior! on the paladin in the last week. The druid doesn't have Epic! on any one build, though -- he has it between his Resto set and Feral set. The paladin has a couple of iLevel 200 blues, but replaced her last green (the ranged slot) last night.

As of when I left for work, I was getting the screen where it was checking my download and then closing out instead of moving to the launcher (and therefore installing the patch). Here's hoping it's a minor glitch, or I was just jumping the gun a bit.

RE: Frost & Arcane, not fire. Becaaaaause... I've been a frost mage from the beginning? And I'm more comfortable with arcane than fire? Maybe I'll try fire out later, but it just doesn't "feel" like me.

My motto for any and all patch days where big changes happen and respecs or other character changes occur:
"If you chase two rabbits, you end up loosing both"

I prefer to take the changes one character at a time. Main spec, off-spec, glyphs, reforge, test and adjust, next character, repeat. If you try to do them all at once you end up logging on to do something on A, then switching to B to check something, then going to buy glyphs, then going back to A because you forgot a detail, then back to B because you forgot a bunch of details, etc.

Of course, there is some fun in trying to "chase two rabbits" if you follow my metaphor. Also, use a pen and pad of paper before you ever touch the auction house. It helps.

I have six 80's, 3 of which I never play and might only see marginal use ever again, 3 of the 6 are play-by-mail profession alts, 1 was my intended DPS who hasn't really been played since Naxx, and my main, Karoht. So needless to say, some of those characters aren't going to see any changes today. By that I mean 4 at minimum.

I'm forcing myself to level my shaman at long last. A troll fellow by the name of Kahrohtaka, his name inspired by a volcano in Hawaii and a play on the name Karoht.
If I could use spaces in names it would just be Kah Rohta. He is eventually going to be my main DPS. Enhancement and Elemental only. No resto although I'm sorely tempted to give Shaman resto a go once I hit 85.
*smack* No! Bad Karoht. Kahrohtaka is DPS. No more resto. Must get out of Healer rut. Bad! *smack*

"OK... no one has to know this is my first heroic. I've done Nexus before. No big."

Much the same experience that I got migrating from XP to Vista. They moved things around. Got rid of things I liked. Introduced things I don't. And basically makes it necessary to relearn how I use it. I barely tolerate that in an operating system. I'm not willing do that kind of extra work for my entertainment.

Biggest annoyance was removing ammunition for hunters. So the whole reason I trained my hunter in Engineering, to make the special ammo, is now gone. And the time I spent raising that skill, rendered a complete waste.

Unless you're trying to do it properly and all just save Hero/Lust til phase 3 and burn Yogg down while off tanking the adds. Keep them in melee range to be cleaved and all but don't have people focus on them. Its just way easier. Its how we do 0 light Yogg if we want Mimiron heads so it should work super easily for 1 light especially if you're doing reasonably on heroic Sindragosa.

On another note couldn't log in at all yesterday. Haven't really been playing much lately anyways since the game is pretty stale at the moment having killed everything but HLK. Really not liking the whole "same achievements for realm firsts for 10 mans and 25s" in Cataclysm, mainly because I don't trust Blizzard to do it properly. One of the modes WILL be easier than the other I am almost 100% certain.

Also seems like the 25 man guilds will just sacrifice a week to do the 10 man version and get the realm first anyways. You're getting more gear per person per boss so you can funnel the gear towards your 10 people who are most likely going to be used for the 10 man kill. After which go back to doing 25 man raids for your more gear. If it turns out the 25 man one is easier (like a Sarth 3 drake thing) then well clearly the 25 man guild has the advantage since the 10 man guild cannot field the appropriate raid at all.

>What The (Scribe)? Apparently I also missed the memo about the increase in ink costs for glyphs. Druid Scribe needs Ink of Sea, badly...

>What The (Mage)? When rebuilding my hotbars, I could *not* figure out this one spot on my buffing bar. Then I remembered that Dispel Magic is gone. This mad me a sad mage, because I forgot to cast it "one last time" Monday night...

>What The (Loading Screen)? If you're wearing a tabard, the loading screen shows your *guild* tabard instead of the one you're actually wearing.

Have you not been paying attention to patch info for the last 5 months? Again, all this information was available. Moreover, the game 'changed' from BC to Wrath, from Vanilla to BC. Same with any other game I've ever played with an expansion.

And basically makes it necessary to relearn how I use it.Which is half the fun for me. Druid Resto has signifigantly changed for the better, and despite my attempts to prepare, there is a chunk of new things for me to learn. In fact, Wrath almost seems boring by comparison. Almost. Can't wait for the rest of the changes Cataclysm is going to bring.

>What The (Druid)? Thorns doesn't last a full minute now. Apparently this is part of their new "people should be making decisions during combat" priority.Yeah, I'd heard about it. I guess they want it to be a support ability cast by non-ferals, or by feral bears just before shifting to bear and diving into combat.
The damage on it is awesome though. And the fact I can cast it on the main tank as resto? And I can configure it on my Healbot (once healbot is up and running again) so as to make thorns not clunky? And it doesn't have a hit rating requirement so I can contribute DPS without having to pick up hit or related hit talents? Hells yeah.

There was one thing I wasn't able to figure out last night before I had to log off: my character isn't wearing a tabard, but the graphic still displays his guild tabard. Is that a new option like "Show Cloak" and "Show Helm", but hidden somewhere else?

Also, as a side, what are people's spirit/mana regen like? Looking for comparisons for my 80 holy priest.

Speaking of holy priest, here's my new combo for single target healing:
Renew, Chakra, Heal, Holy Word: Serenity, repeat Heal, cast Holy Word: Serenity as it becomes available.
Mana never runs out, Renew stays on target as long as I heal them, Chakra doesn't expire as long as I heal, and whenever I cast Holy Word: Serenity, I get a 25% extra crit rate with heals on the target. Sweet.

Yeah I've been meaning to play with my Priest but didn't get around to it last night. Too much to do on my resto druid.
Mana wise, the changes to intellect have given me a massive mana pool (40K unbuffed, I was previously at 25K unbuffed) and an in combat regen rate of 680. The regen is a bit down, but overall mana costs on some spells are lower, some are higher but not all that much.

My combo for single target (AKA tank heals):
Lifebloom, Nourish, Rejuv, Regrowth, Swiftmend, Nourish, weave in LB's from there. Swiftmend with the new Efflorescence effect (AKA the heal that no one can spell right, myself included) is awesome. The fact that Swiftmend isn't based on which HoT is on the target is sort of an improvement IMO. Also, I converted all my hit and crit into mastery... I am a happy person with 13% Mastery and STILL 30% crit. Lifebloom is a seriously good heal, especially with the new glyph, and Regrowth pretty much always crits now. And I can't wait to actually have to CC things, because my glyphed Entangling Roots is instant cast now, making it a snap to hold someone for a bit.

Yeah, I might have to re-learn some things, but overall the character not only feels like a better equipped healer, but more useful to the party overall, rather than 'just a healer.'

Anyone know what the replacement is for Defense? I was a bit surprised to see that gone from all my tank gear and I didnt see anything explaining how you get to the "uncrittable" state that was 540 defense before.

Count me among the disappointed mages. Fire is so far above the others now that it makes almost no sense to be anywhere else. This, in my opinion, seems like a horrible design. Also, nice to see them bork up Mage glyphs to the point where there's 3 Fire Primes, 2 Frost, and 1 Arcane. Nice work.

I have to completely learn to play my DK as I was Frost-Tank, Blood-DPS before and now those are completely swapped. Forcing me into a tree for a role just feels...wrong somehow.

I'm going to hold off on reforging/regemming until the people way more into it/way smarter than me do the theorycrafting on new mod priorities. Only thing I did do was dump my extraneous +hit for some mastery on my mage.

Ah, pretty water, oh so pretty water...
The graphic improvements are very nice.

This seems kinda contradictory.
The reasons I was considering not renewing the subscription had to do with time constraints and not game play.

Have you not been paying attention to patch info for the last 5 months? Again, all this information was available. Moreover, the game 'changed' from BC to Wrath, from Vanilla to BC. Same with any other game I've ever played with an expansion.
No, I have not been paying attention to patch information. I play games to relax, not to do homework. I expect a "patch" to fix something that's broken, not redesign game play. And if this is what they do every time they make an expansion (was not around for the others), then all the more reason for me not to invest the time or money to continue playing.

Interesting. This is one of the things I was looking forward to with my hunter. Granted, he's not an engineer so I don't have that added layer. But I think no longer having to track ammunition is a great thing.
They could have compromised by having an unlimited amount of standard ammo while still allowing for limited enhanced ammo. But, meh. The point is moot for me now.

Uncrittable is Now a Talent in each of the Tanking Trees

Defense is converted to Dodge and sometimes Parry

Each expac heralds some changes to way the game works but thus time round it a rather major shake-up and and reset to what the game has been over the past few years. The Patch is the Prequal to the Expac and will bring some interesting event in the weeks to come that leads the change of the Story.

Also, according to the trainer it says I've already learned Insect Swarm, but in my spelll book it says Insect Swarm: Talk to a Trainer. If it isn't fixed by the time I get home I'll have to put in a ticket. Or spam trade like everyone else...

What I heard is that this happens if you had Insect Swarm before the patch. Hopefully they'll hotfix that. As a Feral Druid, I had no problem training it, even if I'll never, ever use it. :smalltongue:

Yeah, I had to turn trade off. It was indeed the first thing I did. People can't read their own talents, or ability tooltips, or they somehow miss that big blinky thing that says "TALK TO A TRAINER"

Strangely, I enjoyed most of it all. The only thing that bugged me was how many people were trying to find Old-World Flying, because it was in their spellbook. Have to realize not everyone knows the reason you could never fly in Old-World was because Old-World was never designed for that (leading to, why would you get to fly NOW when the world hasn't been changed at all?)

Let me guess, you don't like Focus either?
Have you not been paying attention to patch info for the last 5 months? Again, all this information was available. Moreover, the game 'changed' from BC to Wrath, from Vanilla to BC. Same with any other game I've ever played with an expansion.

Indeed. Sometimes they come out with drastic changes that alter the face of the game. That's why they put the patch notes out. If you don't read them, and get smacked in the face in eighteen different ways on patch day, then...

Had a guy in trade today yelling about how his huge stock of Spellpower gems were missing today. He said the same thing, "I don't have time to read the patch notes!" Wait, but you have the time to cut and stockpile crapbuckets of epic gems? :smalltongue:

Yeah, I'd heard about it. I guess they want it to be a support ability cast by non-ferals, or by feral bears just before shifting to bear and diving into combat. The damage on it is awesome though.

It's certainly interesting. I cast it on the Main Tank in HoR today a few times during the gauntlet -- was sort of unsatisfying, given that I don't get to see the numbers myself. I'll have to fix my damage mod and see some percentages. I glyphed it, anyway -- now there's only five seconds between the buff ending and me being able to cast it again.

Now, Thorns is much closer to the way it used to be. Pre-4.0. Pre-3.0. Pre 2.0, pre-1.0. Hell, even pre-alpha. Pre- pre- pre-alpha.

Anyone know what I'm talking about?

Did You Get The Memo?

>What The (Scribe)? Apparently I also missed the memo about the increase in ink costs for glyphs. Druid Scribe needs Ink of Sea, badly...

I certainly missed that memo, though it didn't make me do a double-take or anything. Certainly makes sense when you think about it. Much less glyphs will be needed from now on.

For a while there, I was confused about my Glyphs... I was lacking the ability to make Glyph of Faerie Fire, Glyph of Tiger's Fury... both of which I wanted. I was looking online, thinking they were found in books or by research and my lack of said research finally bit me in the behind.

...Then I realized they had been added in 4.0 and casually walked over to my inscription trainer.

Oh, and I got the 310% Master Flying. If you're exalted with the Alliance Vanguard, learn it in Borean Tundra. Apparently, you get the discount there and pay 4000g. Don't do what I did and pay 5000g to those crook wizards in Dalaran.

Not really sure it was worth it. :smallconfused:

You've never looked up boss strategies prior to a fight?

Patches also add game features, happens all the time in all kinds of games. Diablo patching added in skill point synergies which radically changed skill points. L4D added new play modes, new campaigns, etc.

Patches also remove features. Maybe because they're obsolete or backwards. Maybe because they don't fit with other existing gameplay elements.

They could have compromised by having an unlimited amount of standard ammo while still allowing for limited enhanced ammo. But, meh. The point is moot for me now.But then they'd have to incorporate that into balancing. Instead, they gave you one less thing to manage, and incorporated that damage into all of your existing abilities.

@Mages-I've been told by the mages in my guild that mastery really fixes frost. And Arcane is more fun to play than it was before, but yes it is indeed behind fire, though the margin isn't all that severe as some would have you believe. However Arcane is very CD dependant (especially with it's Mastery, Evocate and Mana gem and even a Druid's innervate are now all DPS enhancing cooldowns) and more about managing a rotation, whereas Fire is more about proc's. Frost is more utility/survival than ever before, part of why it isn't doing as much damage. Though the Ice Lance nerf (double instead of triple to frozen targets) is part of that problem and would make for an easy fix to solve the problem.
For the record, one of the mages in our guild pulled 15K dps on Loken in HoL the other night. As frost. And while I hear stories of Fire doing amazing damage on trash, it isn't adding up nearly as well on single target. The arcane mage in our guild pulled 17 or 18K on the same fight in the same run. But, I'll tack on the qualifier of "your mileage may vary" and these people are in 6.1K - 6.3K gearscore gear with insane amounts of crit and mastery.

@DK's-I also was a fan of the 'tank from any tree, dps from any tree' aspects of DK. Blood as the tanking tree does kind of confuse me somewhat, I always saw Frost as the inplaceable invincible unstoppable tank (like a glacier), although everyone swore by Frost DW for DPS.
On the other hand, every time I look at the Blood tree I think, hey, if I didn't take the tanking features, what kind of DPS could one pull? It makes me curious about the potential there, is all.

@Illiterate People-Are that many people on this planet incapable of reading?
"What does mastery do?" It tells you in your talent tree, and in your character stat section.
"Where did my Gift of the Wild go?" It tells you in Mark of the Wild that it now affects Party/Raid.
Again, trade channel turned off. Depending on how guild stuff goes, possibly forever.

If there is a way to see the damage it causes when it's on another target you'll have to tell me. That is the sort of thing I like to keep an eye on.

RE: Insect Swarm Bug
Yeah, I'm not worried about it. Not until Cataclysm proper, when I actually get the +hit Talent anyway. Mind you the only reason I'll be using Insect Swarm then is because I'll be dropping Moonfires anyway, and hitting an Insect Swarm really isn't all that extra effort to go with it.
And my instant Entangling Roots + Insect Swarm is pretty darned useful, as Insect Swarm isn't likely to break the Roots. Which reminds me, I need to set up a "cast Entangling Roots on Focus" macro in the near future.

Spoilered for off-topicness
You can usually tell how much experience a person has in customer service by asking whether or not there is such a thing as a dumb question. If they say no, they either have no meaningful CS experience or are trying to tell you what they think you want to hear.

I got challenged on that one time in a training session. "Name one."
"How much does a 5 ounce scrod weigh? From a native English speaker with no learning disability."
"You're exagerating."
"No. The next question was, 'How much does the 8.5 ounce scord weigh?" Followed immediately by, "So, it's larger? Is that why it costs more?" Again, these are real questions asked by a real person, not theory."
"Okay, that was one experience..."
"This email says the invitation expires at 12:00pm, it's only 1:00pm, why is it already expired..."
"You're making this up..."
"I deleted this very important email. I got a message that said if I deleted it there was no way to recover it... Is there any way to recover it?"

This went for about 3-5 minutes before the trainer shook his head in frustration at me, wrote something on a notepad, and went onto the next topic

What separates the experienced from the good is the ability to handle questions like that professionally :smallwink:

I have to admit to having "that moment" on the Paladin alt, but it occured to me to check the regular Blessings before asking in Trade.

Truth be told, the problem isn't usually illiteracy. It's usually laziness. "Literacy works whenever it's tried," as a manager at work is fond of saying (ironically, he's one of the worst communicators).

Schtick is, the earlier poster who made the crack about how this is his hobby not his school/job has a point -- just not as big of one as he might think. Anybody paying any legitimate amount of attention to the game knew big changes were coming. Let's face it, though, there were a LOT of changes, enough that it can be understood if someone missed a few.

Having said that, I for one don't think it's too much to expect people to make simple attempts at troubleshooting ("Hey, I don't have a Bear form... hmm, it's not on the talent panel either, wonder if I need to train it again. Oh well, I was porting to Moonglade anyway...") before asking in chat.

Now if I can just remember why my druid has his hearthstone set for Gadgetzan...

Heh. I currently have "about 14 hours" to go before the patch finishes downloading...

Shortly after I posted this last night, it dropped to a reasonable time. Reasonable, but still too long to wait for it. When I went to bed, there was still an estimated 65 minutes left.

When I came down this morning, I found that Windows Vista decided last night was a good time to apply updates and reboot my computer. (as an aside, if anybody knows how to make Vista stop doing this, I would appreciate a PM with the details.) Thankfully, the patch seems to have fully downloaded and applied before Vista took over and rebooted. Yay!

I fiddled around a little bit this morning with my rogue's talents. I don't know if I'll have time for it tonight or not - I have a freelance project due on Sunday, and I still have to write about 4K words for it. My biggest "Oh yeah, I didn't think of that" moment came when went to load the auction house - and remembered that I'll now need to go get a new copy of all my mods, including Auctioneer. There seems to be enough differences now that loading out-of-date add-ons causes Auctioneer to do weird things. RatingsBuster also seems to have a ton of issues. I didn't check into my other mods.

See, the thing is, they pay you to deal with idiots there. Not charge you...

Fact the First: Mark of the Wild and Blessing of Kings now do exactly the same thing. Each overwrites the other.

Fact the Second: Blessing of Might now combines the effects of old Blessing of Might and old Blessing of Wisdom.

Fact the Third: If you happen to be in a pug with a druid and a paladin, you are neither the druid nor the paladin, and it occurs to you that it would be kind of beneficial if the paladin cast Blessing of Might and the druid cast Mark of the Wild, instead of them both overwriting each others' buffs if they bother to buff at all, and you try to make this happen, I wish you all the luck in the world. You'll need it.

Yeah but you could play while that was doing it's thing.

Some testing done:
Blood dk tank: AoE tanking is different, to many runes/runic power and to few global cooldowns to spend it all. I lost aggro once or twice in some larger pulls but other then that I think it's ca the same.
Single target on the other hand oh boy. Get 100 runic power and then spam rune strike (at least for me it´s up almost all the time) and swim in the threat + it resets some of your runes = more runic power = more threat.

Elemental shaman: Increased my dps by ca 3000 unbuffed and I haven't tried it in a raid yet, should be interesting.
Resto shaman: Spam chain heal/healing surge until oom and then boost to full with lightning bolt other then that my mana regen doubled (not counting mana from imp water shield and crits) and hps increased by a huge amount once I dumped some spirit into mastery.

It looks like ICC will be a lot easier now. Only thing I'm worried about is losing remove disease from shamans for rot and the king but other classes can handle that.

EDIT: And what the hell is up with some of the spell tooltips?
Healing wave: Heals a friendly target
BY HOW MUCH? small amount? Large amount? 1hp? I don't know until I cast the damn spell.
Sinister strike: Damaging attack
Details man I need details.

I actually told someone once, the only environment in which there are no stupid questions is when you are dealing with children. After that all bets are off. After that there are normal questions, stupid questions, and stupid-er questions. I could tell you some funny stories, let me tell you.
Also, for the record, I work with kids all the time. It's when adults ask childlike questions I begin to wonder if everything is operating properly upstairs. Especially when said 'adults' lecture me about my supposed lack of maturity.

BRD.

I pull the 1st two mobs, sure enough, the dps are overeager to attack. After the pulled off me, they figured it out. Well, 2 out of the 3. I keep pulling, a little shaky but so far so good. One of the mobs starts running, and this Warlock with a Felguard, sends his Felguard at the mob. Sure enough, pulls 2 more groups.

Quickly AoE taunt and get them on me, hitting a few cooldowns, and we kill them. I tell the warlock to watch his pet.... He replies "lol"

my thoughts: ahhh ****...

Next pull, he does it again! Just this time, he sends his buddy after them right away, which, is right next to a 2 pats. We finish the pull, I'M on cooldown... leave the group.

I noticed it's a little more difficult, aggro wise. Or it might just have been bad luck... I think I might quest/pvp once he gets to 55...

I'm not quite sure what to make of Smite for the Discipline priest. Archangel is really nice, what with the mana and the additional healing. The 30 second cooldown and the additional mana from Discipline and normal priest abilities really work to make the Discipline priest the perpetuum mobile of mana it was bfore, at least that's what I thinkl, without having tested it in any significant encounter yet. The heal you get from Atonement is also nice.

So I figured I'd Heal people, Shield people, Pennance people, all the while keeping Evangelism at 5 stacks and pop Archangel when tough times are coming. It's just that I have to get accustomed to working Smite into my arsenal.

Problem with my internet, or with the game? Anyone else having similar problems?

These situations are why repair bills are okay sometimes. Let him pull a giant group, do a deliberately lackluster job and wipe, then direct the collective RAAAAAGE from the group into getting LOLock kicked,

Ya, but I... haven't been doing tradeskills a lot, and reforging/gemming can be costly =(

Yep, 100%. Finally got on my warrior, ran out of IF, slowly spent my talent points, risked going back to IF...and promptly crashed out. Still can't access my Shaman (who's in Dalaran).

I'm assuming it's an internet thing (stupid campus internet) and I'm just going to have to wait for the madness to die down on the servers and shoot for some off hours to log on and take everyone to Exodar.

New to WoW, I only played like 2 weeks when this patch came out so now I'm basically learning how to play my pally again for the second time in a month :smalltongue:

Leveling a 64 ret pally on Nagrand at the moment and loving the new patch. Sure they got rid of my consecration and seal of command but now I get free instant exorcisms that OHKOs anything that ain't an elite and free 5k instant no cooldown heals (wonder how long before they nerf that)

Stupid questions, eh?

I get *all* the crazies. I work for my local council. The department I work in? Highways--as in *roads*. The idiots who call us up?

(Yes, these are all from phonecalls I've dealt with from working in this one place)

"My toilet's blocked."
"My next door neighbour's pigeons are crapping in my downpipe."
"Can you fit my mother's toilet roll holder?"
"If you don't fix the broken drain cover in my garden, I'm going to smash all the others."
"Are you the amateur dramatics group?"

And of course, the classic:

"Highways, Paul speaking."
"Is that Dave?"

Seriously. The public, without exception, are idiots. It wouldn't be so bad if they didn't all use the same sob story of "children and/or old people will magically hurt themselves somehow on this problem" for *everything* they report.

Well feral druids are completely screwed. DPS on a dummy is about the same as before maybe a touch lower. DPS in raids is something like 30-40% lower. Lovely. At least there was a blue post saying feral (along with most melee) need to be buffed and will be, but no clue on when that will actually occur.

Feral tanking seems ok though AOE pulls seem pretty ridiculous now that swipe is on 6 second cooldown and we don't have thrash yet. Glyph of maul got nerfed too which is somewhat annoying.

Don't forget it's not supposed to be balanced at 80, guys. You don't have nearly the relative amount of Mastery as you would at 85, which is the one stat they custom-tailor to every class and spec -- I imagine Feral Druids will do better when their bleed damage is buffed to hell and back, for instance. :smallamused:

It's official. I can't tank any more. I can't generate the Rage necessary to even get aggro, let alone keep it. I don't have Mocking Blow any more--which just so happened to be the greatest tool in my arsenal for making sure I had at least a few seconds of leeway on a single mob before the DPS risked taking it away from me.

Bloodrage is gone, I'm reliant on my Shouts to generate Rage--which means if I screw up and put the wrong Shout up, that's me locked out of fixing the problem and that's ALSO me screwed for Rage generation for just as long.

I was so bad in Halls of Stone earlier today that one of the DPS suggested I'd bought my account.

Just a small update from the Blues on the balance issues at the moment.

Rather than try and address multiple threads, I'm just going to plop our current thoughts in this one post. Please excuse the brevity.

1) We think Fury, Arms, Feral cat and Retribution dps is too low and we will be buffing them.

2) We think mage dps is too high, especially Fire, and will be nerfing it.

3) We think Shadow priest dps is too high, but that's largely a result of Shadow Word: Death spam, which is tough on healers. We'll be fixing that.

4) We think Destro warlock dps is too high, but that's largely a result of Searing Pain spam, which is tough on tanks. We'll be fixing that.

5) As we suspected, PvP dps is just too high given that the health pools of Cataclysm haven't kicked in yet. While competitive PvP is over for the moment, we still want the environment to feel better so we will be buffing resilience. This change might be reverted at level 85.

There will probably be more changes after another night of raiding and BGs. Many of the bug fixes we have made today will affect dps as well. Stay tuned.

I don't know if this helps (I haven't actually tanked yet) but here's some things I think it's important to do now as a prot warrior...

- I'm cutting Heroic Strike from my tanking rotation entirely. It's only on the bar for boss fights when I maybe have enough rage. Its cost doubled to 30 rage, we lost all our rage cost reducing talents, and we lost glyph of Revenger and Glyph of Heroic Strike (when you revenge, next HS is free; HS crits grant 10 rage). All that on top of rage normalization = no heroic strike for you!

- Unless it's a pull where you know they pack fear, try popping Berserker Rage before you pull (and glyphing it). +5 rage is mediocre, but increased rage from damage taken is great. Even if the mobs pack fear, Zerker Rage is only a 30 second CD...not that long, really.

- Devastate looks beastly now; make sure you do that as a priority move.

- I've seen a lot of "cookie cutter" builds dropping Vigilance now that it doesn't increase threat. I'm keeping it so I can turn a melee dps into my "off-tank" and reduce damage to them when they rank threat. You may want to consider doing the same.

- Always open with Heroic Throw if possible (throw as you Charge); it's a free burst of threat that silences to boot if you spec for it (I did not)

- If you're doing all these things and still having trouble (you may be; as I said I've been too laggy to tank anything yet, hopefully tonight I can give a report) then you have two options...

1) Spec into 3/3 Shield Specialization, as much Blitz as you can muster, and go reforge some Parry into Mastery instead to up your block chance.

2) Tell the PuGs you're playing "Cataclysm Rules": No AoE, they need to wait for the first Devestate/Thunder Clap before attacking, high use of crowd control, and if they don't attack skull you're letting them die. Play it off as practice and leave if they start whining.

Well considering they are talking about balance changes (as seen in that Ghostcrawler post) and there's a full 2 months before the expansion hits, I'm fairly sure it IS supposed to be balanced at 80.

All melee that were well geared lost probably over 80% armor penetration (and closer to 95% if you were fully decked out in 277 gear). Thats a MASSIVE hit to dps. Forget the rest of the class changes, no amount of mastery is going to provide an increase similar to what ArP used to provide. Combine this with scaling changes that were not fully thought through and certain classes get hit quite hard. Buff changes didn't help either. Kings now provides an effective direct spellpower increase to casters that previously it didn't. Of course it also halved the bonus it used to give to melee for their attacks since those were based on stats already.

The annoying thing about a lot of this is that all these issues have been brought up on the beta forums. Yet Blizzard still released a patch that was horribly imbalanced and expects us to use it for the next two months (well presumably less since Ghostcrawler implied there'd be a fix coming at some point).

They've said multiple times they're only worried about how it's balanced for 85. They've said multiple times it's going to be skewy for the two months before we can keep leveling. See: Here, (http://blue.mmo-champion.com/t/27187855759/from-a-gm-please-fix-this-now/) where Ghostcrawler mentions they need to be cautious about buffing classes now, because he doesn't want to nerf them when they're able to get to 85. It's generally accepted (http://wow.joystiq.com/2010/10/13/patch-4-0-1-class-balance-issues-and-you/) that yeah, it's wonky as hell, but that's just the way it is until we're 85.

The part about the patch being released despite being horribly imbalanced should support the notion that, yes, 80 content is mostly done with. Any balance patches they release before Cataclysm should be mostly half-hearted, non-comittal attempts to appease players in the interim, especially given Nigthcrawler's post up there.

Hokay, got new healbot, got into 2 Heroics. CoT: Culling of Stratholm and Halls of Reflection. Spoilers for length.

CoT:

Tank-Feral Druid in Blues. I kid you not, he was in blues.
DPS-Arms Warrior, Mage, Warlock, all in 264's or better. No idea the specs on the two casters.
Healer-Me, Resto Druid, in all 264's or better.
So, here's how it all went down.
Threat: The threat was fine. No really. And this was a Feral Druid who was undergeared. He said the only thing he was doing differently (?) was that he pre-HoT and pre-Thorns himself, and would hit Faerie Fire 3x and open with Swipe. And he held threat plenty fine. We never had an overaggro moment, and yes, the DPS was busting out their AoE's here and there. Not every pull, not from the start of every pull, but they still AoE'd pretty frequently. And at the end the tank apologized profusely for not going faster or pulling more. I was seriously impressed.
Healing: I was absolutely fresh and was still configuring Healbot as I went. Working Thorns in to help the tank (I believe it counts as threat for the tank) probably helped with the threat, and it does do considerable damage. My healing, I opened with 1 stack of LB, waited for the first bit of incoming damage, hit rejuv, nourish, next stack of LB, and then continued from there, to control my threat. Tank said I was never in danger of pulling off him, I ramped up slowly and carefully. Just like how I used to do it back in BC.
DPS-Scores were definately higher all around. My fiance usually has an overall DPS around 5K after a dungeon, she was up at 8 by the end of the instance. Again, thats overall, every pull, etc. Arms Warrior.
The mage and warlock both had DPS around 9-11K, but admittedly they were holding back AoE to a degree. They did say though that they were safely able to single target down the tanks main target, then switch to AoE safely without pulling threat.

HoR:
Tank-Warrior. 5.5k GS.
DPS-Warrior, Mage, Warlock
The Rundown.
Threat: Oh yeah, tank had trouble, I won't lie. But I've yet to see many Warrior tanks who handle Halls of Reflection well, at least for the first 10 trash waves. We wiped on the first pull because a mob got loose and I wasn't able to get an entangling roots on him fast enough.
We solved the problem like this. I would CC one of the melee, tank would taunt the other one. Tank would get onto the range and we just would single targe the range down, leaving the casters last. Caster last because they are by nature harder to hold, and with the HP buff they really weren't a considerable threat anyway. Once range was down, Tank was free to taunt the rooted melee, and any and all remaining melee was AoE'd and nuked down. From there, easy street.
Healing: Hectic. Mitigated by having better tools to heal the tank, Efflorescence helps considerably, and I just had to bend my head around the notion that Regrowth is my speed heal, not Nourish. i Also still have to work my head around NOT casting Lifebloom on anyone but the tank. And that while, yes, I can keep Lifebloom up with just Nourish, Lifebloom is cheap enough that a quick cast back at the tank isn't a major waste of mana. Once I worked all that out, it was easy. I did have an 'oh snap' moment, and I most say I love the improved functionality of Tree of Life, and being able to drop Lifeblooms and instant cast Regrowths on people is actually REALLY good for playing catch up when you're behind. Tree of Life + Tranquility is also very good.
DPS: Due to threat issues, there wasn't much AoE. Warrior was all over the caster while the Mage and Lock and Warrior Tank did their thing. CC'ing one mob really did make all the difference in the world, and an Arms Warrior really can keep a caster trash mob decently under control, or for lack of a better word, tank it. And no she did not stance dance and use spell reflect. Though I think I saw the Tank toss Heroic Throw at the casters ever now and again, rather than just letting the Arms Warrior do all the work of interrupting.
Arms Warrior: 4k
Mage: 7k
Lock: 5k
No idea as to why that particular distribution. Mage might have just busted out more AoE than I could see, or had a spec which was better for single target. Mage might have been arcane, wasn't really paying attention.

What I learned, stuff to test...

Things I learned:
Thorns-Super cool ability, I just need something to tell me when it's off CD, or I need to move it to a better spot on my bars, maybe work out a macro for it or something. Two Druids could easily keep Thorns up on a tank with 100% uptime, so I'm wavering on getting the Glyph which shortens the CD. But I might get it once we start Cata 5 mans and raids. The damage is amazing, and if it does help with tank threat, all the better.
DPS-Say there are 5 mobs. If you single target down the first one, maybe the first and second, you can probably AoE safely. Probably.
Tree of Life CD-Is awesome. The end. I iz a happey drood.
(Also, saw the new models, I kinda like them. They're sort of cute. I'd need to see how big they are though, I have no sense of scale on the preview images)
Seriously, instant cast Regrowths, no target cap on Lifeblooms, Wild growth hitting up to 8 targets, it's all good.

Things I still need to test:
-Faerie Fire. No big deal applying it I'm sure, but I'll have to see. I'll roll with a Pally or DK tank tonight, see what's what.
-Haven't had much of a drain on my mana, but I've been holding back. I need to 'be spammy' and see what I can actually do before I jump into a raid.
-Innervate. I need to test that out at some point too. Also, I have the Glyph, so I get half if I cast it on someone else. I highly expect to see two druids cast it on each other, and get 150% rather than 100% or 50%. That just seems smart to me. And I understand that Boomkin also have a talent which works with Innervate. I highly suspect that the CD on Innervate will be increased or the amount regenerated will be nerfed. Then again, spell costs will go up in Cata anyway, so maybe it's not imbalanced at 85?
-Skada updated shortly after I finished up both of these. So I have no idea what healing and overhealing looked like.

What I like, what I don't like...

Things I Very Much Enjoy:-Doing things other than Healing feel extremely relevant and helpful. I don't just feel like a healer, I feel like a healer and support role. This is a new feeling, and I like it. Between Thorns and Roots and Faerie Fire, I'm having fun.
-Rejuv is a great heal. Regrowth is a fantastic spot heal. The two together really are quite amazing.
-Tank healing with Lifebloom + Nourish is great. It's mana efficient, it's steady, and I can't imagine how good it will be once more mastery is in play.
-Replenishment on me 100% of the time? Yeah, I'm a super mana battery. 40,000 mana pluse Replenishment buff + decent Spirit Regen? Yikes.

Things I do not enjoy:-Working in Healing Touch... it just feels a bit clunky. Might just take getting used to is all.
-I think Lifebloom should be capped at 3 applications, not limited to one target. But I respect why it is the way it is. It would be way too easy to throw LB on 3 targets, and just hit Nourish on those 3 targets constantly, and work in a Rejuv + Swiftmend or a WG every CD. Maybe they could cap it at 2 targets? I dunno. It's not really a problem, I just keep kicking myself every time I have 3 stacks on the tank, then make the bonehead mistake of casting LB on a DPS who needs a small heal, dropping all 3 stacks from that tank immediately.

On the note of Rage generation:
My Arms Warrior fiance had no trouble with the new rage. And she isn't taking damage. Taking damage means you should have more rage than her. Also the Bear and Warrior tanks I ran with last night, neither seemed to have problems with rage either. Though they could have been having problems and just covered for it THAT well.

Also, maybe this is important, but I just checked my fiance's spec, she has that talent in Tier 1 Fury Tree that causes some attacks to proc "your next X, Y, or Z only costs 5 rage." And the Warrior Tank mentioned that Incite (Heroic Strike crits = free Heroic Strike which also crits) is major important for single target threat. That might mean that tanks need more crit than previously mentioned. That is one reason why ArP got turned into crit. If you are having threat issues, maybe look at crit for a moment.

On the note of patch balancing:
The game should be balanced at every level from 1-80 IMO. On the other hand, we're also focusing on endgame/raiding 80, I think Blizzard might be more focused on endgame 85. Then again, maybe they released the patch the way it was (IMBA according to many) because they needed better numbers and feedback than what they could get from the PTR.
Make no mistake, they're going to get it right before Cata comes out, their speedy response to the issues is indicative of that. From what I remember, this is history repeating itself Pre-BC and Pre-Wrath, just massively imbalanced towards one end of the spectrum or the other, and on a much larger scale.

And Nerf Avoidance attitude > Buff Happy attitude. Ghostcrawler FTW.

Ehh, I guess I wasn't very clear: I am certainly in support of this crazy messed-up world because I believe it's fine that they balance it for 85. When I say 'half-hearted attempts at appeasing players', I meant players other than me, but I didn't want to sound like I was attacking anyone. I think it's messed up, sure, but I also think we all have a bit to learn about our classes and our new stat setup. Ultimately, 4.0.1 is the 'prepare for expansion' patch, so it's only natural that it be balanced for that expansion. And in this expansion, no one will be doing anything at 80, so...

The thing I was taking issue with was just the fact that Blizzard is doing something wrong by telling everyone "It'll be better when you gain five levels!", because I know that's how they've done things for a while. 4.0.1 was just the point where, to me, Wrath of the Lich King was officially over, just as 2.0.x and 3.0.x were the end of their eras. I guess for others, Wrath of the Lich King and level 80 raids still reign supreme until the world officially blows up. :smallamused:

And what the hell, Nigthcrawler? A badly-spelled X-Man character is our new head of class balance, I guess. :smalltongue:

Re: Books
So I just finished reading The Last Guardian.
Fantastic book, I wish Nielus Aran had featured a touch more prominently.
The narrative method is excellent though. Khadgar is an awesome character, you learn much about Medihv and Garrona.

Next Books: Arthas, Stormrage, one of the Warcraft comics I haven't read yet, and Cycle of Hatred. After that, all that's left are the manga series by Tokyopop, which I hear are actually not too bad.

The only thing I think I disliked about The Last Guardian was the painful reminders of Garona's half-orc retcon. Usually I can look past them, but for some reason that one Just Bugged Me. On a brighter note, the part about Medivh chastising Khadgar not for his poor idea, but for his lack of knowledge... that always stuck with me. Loved that part. Was an interesting twist on the master-apprentice dynamic.

Eager to hear what you think about Cycle of Hatred.

I think I'll pick up Cycle of Hatred next then.

Re: Garrona
Yeah, I hear you. Though a half orc, half draenae isn't entirely outside the realm of possibility. I don't recall them establishing who the mother and father were, which would be about all they would need to clear up. I'm actually expecting the circumstances of her birth along with her life story to be the subject of her own novel at some point.

...which they'll use to tie in Deathwing, or the Old Gods, or Sargaras, or all 3.
...Most likely written by Knaak.

Update! All emphasis mine.

We made many changes yesterday. A lot of these were bug fixes, and many bug fixes will affect damage one way or the other. So just because you don't see a specific change referenced below, doesn't mean it didn't change.

With that said, here are the specific changes we made in reference to my previous post:

1) We buffed the base points and coefficients of many warrior dps abilities. We didn't do as much to tanking abilities.

We buffed the base points and coefficients of many Ret abilities.

We buffed the base points and coefficients of many Feral cat abilities.

2) We lowered the base points and coefficients of many mage abilities, but lowered Fire more than the other two.

3) We nerfed Shadow Word: Death, but it is possible we didn't nerf it enough. It should not be Shadow's biggest spell.

4) We returned Searing Pain's damage to its 3.3.5 levels.

5) We increased the benefit of resilience by 50% for players level 80 and below. The tooltips will probably not reflect this change.

We don't have any other changes to announce at this time. I am reluctant to mention additional classes or specs that we are looking at currently for fear of instilling excitement or panic.

I knew I should have screenshotted that 15k Icelance...

Hello! Long time reader, first time poster. :smallwink: Got an 80 fury/off-spec prot warrior on Argent Dawn named Yamato. I thought I'd just drop in and contribute my own two coppers to Hawk7915's advice.

Okay, so first let's discuss talents.

The great thing about all the changes, for prot warriors at least, is that pretty much every single talent you can get has some use. Not all of them will be useful depending on your exact playstyle, but you shouldn't feel like you are wasting points no matter what you get. There are a few talents that I would strongly recommend getting, however:

Blood and Thunder (Tier 1) - This one is pretty huge, because it effectively turns your Thunderclap into Consecrate. Get a mob of bad guys, put Rend on one of them, and spam Thunderclap everytime it's up - the Rend should remain permanently on the whole group, which helps hold threat. Not nearly enough if the DPS goes nuts, but it's a start. For your other three Tier 1 points, Incite & Toughness are both good, but Incite only works if you use Heroic Strike a lot - +10% armor is always nice.

Shield Specialization (Tier 2) - All of the Tier 2 talents are really nice, and you may want to consider just dumping the extra 5 points to get *all* of them maxed out. Of the four, however, I think Shield Specialization takes the cake. This is where you'll be getting a lot of rage from, at 15 Rage per Blocked attack (at 3 points invested), and 60(!!!!) Rage from a Spell Reflected attack. After that, I'd probably go from left to right, choosing Shield Mastery over Hold the Line, and those over Gag Order (Spell Reflect + Shield Specialization makes caster mobs your friends :smallwink: ). Shield Mastery is nice because it lowers Shield Block and Spell Reflect cooldowns, increasing the time those are up and thus giving you lots more Rage when combined with Shield Specialization.

Warbringer & Bastion of Defense (Tier 3) - Again, the Tier 3 talents are pretty nice. You'll need Bastion of Defense if you want to tank, period. Warbringer is also good because it lets you Charge! while in Defensive stance. Last Stand is nice to keep you alive in an "uh oh" moment, assuming you can react fast enough to use it. Concussion Blow is pretty "meh" - you'll either be busy doing other things or forget to use it at all! Take it only if you want to take Vigilance as well.

Improved Revenge and Devestate (Tier 4) - Both of these talents are excellent. You'll want Devestate for Sunder Armor + damage, and Improved Revenge lets you use Revenge to keep at least one other non-targeted foe angry with you. Impending Victory is a nice self-heal, but you may want to invest those 2 points elsewhere - your choice.

Thunderstruck (Tier 5) - This talent turns your Thunderclap into a battery for your Shockwaves. Generally you'll be able to get 2-3 Thunderclaps off in between each Shockwave. Vigilance isn't as nice as it once was, but if there's only one overzealous dps pulling aggro, you can put it on them and use Taunt repeatedly. Heavy Repercussions boosts Shield Slam damage - nice, but Shield Slam is single-target, and you can usually hold aggro/taunt a single target. If you've invested a lot of points before getting this far and need to cut back to avoid going over 31 points, here is probably the place to do it. Maybe put 1 point in Thunderstruck just to get the buffing of your Shockwave going.

Sword and Board (Tier 6) - More cool stuff your Devestate now triggers. Instant Shield Slams for free are very nice, and it's not like you have anything else to invest points in for this tier. Safeguard is alright, but you shouldn't be needing to use Intervene a whole lot, and it only sees use if you use Intervene, and then let the loose mob continue beating on the guy. :smallconfused: Obviously if you PvP a lot, this is a different story, and Safeguard becomes *very* useful if for some reason you PvP as Protection.

Shockwave (Tier 7) - Yeah, you want this. :smalltongue: Ideally as your 31st point, leaving you with 5 points left to spend.

With your last 5 points, you can pretty much do whatever you want. You can go back and pick up the remainning talents in Protection you skipped, or grab some of the Tier 1 talents in Arms/Fury. Pretty much, all of the Tier 1 talents are very good. If you are specifically having trouble generating enough Rage, I would suggest Blitz in Arms, and Battle Trance in Fury. Otherwise as I said, pick whatever you want with those last 5 points, you basically can't go wrong with whatever you pick.

Since we've discussed talents, let's briefly touch on Glyphs as well.

Prime Glyphs:
For better or worse, you don't really have much of a choice here. You'll be using Revenge, Devestate, and Shield Slam as protection, so get and equip those.

Major Glyphs:
Lots of choices here, and like those last 5 talent points, you have a wide number of good options. Just be sure you glyph for abilities that you are going to use. Spell Reflect is nice, as that when combined with the talent reduces the difference between the ability's cooldown and its duration to 1 second - so you can basically always have Spell Reflect up and running. Shockwave lowers the cooldown by 3 seconds, and since you'll be using Shockwave a lot to hold aggro that's also somewhat nice. Glyph of Sunder Armor does work with Devestate, so that might help hold aggro on a secondary target a little bit, and Cleave lets your Cleave hit 3 people instead of just 2 - but then you have to add Cleave into your rotation somewhere. Resounding Power reduces Thunderclap's Rage cost by 5 - also a good choice if you're constantly low on Rage.

Minor Glyphs:
Like the prime glyphs, not a lot of good choices here. Berserker Rage is nice to generate a smidgit of Rage before starting a pull, Command/Battle is nice to keep the buff up if you're actually using it for the buff as well as the Rage (they don't stack with paladin/priest buffs). And Demo Shout keeps the debuff up for a longer period of time so you can spam other, more threat-generating things.

Alright, now we get to the last, juicy bit: combat strategy:

Okay, first one last bit of prep work. If you can stand it, go into the game options -> Interface -> Combat menu, and turn on Target of Target and Cast bars by clicking on the boxes to Checkmark them and then click on "Okay" to save those changes. This will put two little windows at the bottom of your current target's portrait (usually at the top center of the screen but mods may move this around a bit).

Target of Target tells you who your target is currently targeting - usually this should be you. If it's not you, one of two things has happened: 1) the mob is using a random-target ability, and has chosen the dps/healer, or more likely 2) the dps just pulled aggro! :smallfurious: Either way, this helps you keep an eye on who the mobs are going after without having to see them actually running off. Just hit the "Tab" key on your keyboard now and then to cycle through them so you can keep an eye on all of them (and smack each one with a shield slam/devestate to help remind them who they hate the most :smallwink: ).

The Cast bars option means that whenever your current target starts casting a spell, a cast bar with the name of the ability will appear just beneath the potrait. Assuming you're keeping an eye on the spell casting bad guys by tabbing over to select them now and again, you can see what they're targeting and what you should do about it. Heal/buff/AoE/attacking someone else - Shield Bash. Single-Target spell (Shadow/Lightning Bolt, for example) - Spell Reflect! Alternatively, leave the cast bar off, and whenever you see the spell caster stop moving or their hands start glowing, hit spell reflect/shield bash (make sure to target them first before using shield bash :smallwink: ).

Okay, so on to the actual tanking. First, you need to be using abilities constantly - both what AoE (Shockwave + Thunderclap + Revenge) and single-target (Devestate + Shield Slam + Heroic Strike) abilities you have. You should try to lock down at least one mob with your single-target abilities, relying on the AoE to keep the others attention at first. Then, start switching over to the other targets once you think you've got the first one locked down, and hit them with single-target attacks as well. If you can keep the group's attention, Shield Block and Spell Reflect should help you get more than enough Rage to do this. However, the start of the fight is the most difficult time - you have little Rage and even less threat on them all.

So - just before pulling, you have two choices: you can either Charge the group to get Rage, or you can use Command/Battle Shout and Heroic Throw to pull the group to you. Generally the groups of mobs are spread out enough that you can use Charge fairly regularly, so long as you are careful about patrols and keep the melee dps from running up to engage them with you (once you've got the group's attention, walk them back a bit, away from any other nearby groups of mobs milling about).

Your first ability should be some sort of AoE - either Thunderclap or Shockwave (bonus points if you still have Thunderstruck running, increasing the damage of Shockwave). This should get everyone's attention on you. Assuming the dps doesn't choose this exact second to go crazy, you should have a second or two to continue building up aggro (another advantage of using Charge is that you're already there attacking, rather than letting Ranged dps the chance to shoot the mobs as they run towards you).

Next, if you have a lot of Rage (from a previous fight or whatever), use Rend on whatever guy you are currently targeting, and then either immediately hit Thunderclap to spread the Rend to all of them, or use Shockwave while you wait for Thunderclap to cool down.

If you don't have a lot of Rage, or have already used Thunderclap and Shockwave, it's time to see to your defenses. Throw up shield block, as well as spell reflect if you see there's a caster getting ready to attack and you have the rage for it. This should immediately give you a windfall of Rage as you block the next several swings from the angered mob, which lets you move on to the spam stage of the fight.

In the spam stage, you just want to use as many abilities as possible as fast as possible. You'll want to use Thunderclap and Shockwave as soon as they are off cooldown, as well as Revenge. Whenever you're not doing that, use Devestate, and Shield Slam (especially when Sword and Board procs). Remember to switch between targets in the group for these single-target attacks, focusing on whichever one the dps seems to be going after (sometimes, it's all of them at once :smalltongue: ). When you have spare Rage and time, use Heroic Strike/Cleave (they share a cooldown now) and Demo shout. Use Shield Block whenever it comes off cooldown to lower your incoming damage and keep your rage generation up, and spell reflect whenever you see a bad guy casting something (or Shield Bash as needed). Sometimes a bad guy will still get away from you while you're fighting the other two or three - just switch over to him, Taunt him off, smack him around with Devestate/Shield Slam a bit, and go back to what you were doing. Eventually the mobs will start dying, and you'll enter the last phase of the fight.

When wrapping up a fight, start holding back a little on abilities so you can save up some Rage. Assuming your group isn't stopping after every pull, you can keep the rage from the current fight to use in the next one, allowing you to get off Rend/Thunderclap/Shockwave/Devestate/Revenge that much quicker.

In general, try to keep your Command/Battle shout in reserve - that's your only real way to generate emergency rage, and if you're out of rage when a patrol comes through and aggros on the healer, there's not much you can do.

And finally, some additional advice:

1) Agree with what Hawk7915 said - if you're still having trouble, play it off as Cata practice. Mark the mobs on each pull, and the order you want them to die in. This will really help because if the dps actually follows it, you know which mobs to focus your single-target abilities on, and you shouldn't have mobs out of the group peeling off to punch dps in the throat because they're attacking the wrong one! (It'll still happen, dont' worry. :smallwink: )

2) Utilize CC - because of the glorious rage spell reflect can generate for you, you may want the CC to get put on some random melee mob instead.

3) Get the rest of the group to help you. This could mean the dps holds back until the first thunderclap/shockwave, but it also means everyone uses their class abilities. Got a hunter/rogue in the group? Ask them to use misdirect or tricks of the trade on you. They might laugh, but if they'd rather peel aggro and get eaten alive, they're the ones paying the repair costs.

4) If it's frequently caster classes that are responsible for pulling aggro, consider using Intervene. Target the loose mob running towards the caster, hit "F" (assuming normal key bindings) to switch to the caster as your target, and then use Intervene. Assuming no other dps pulls off another mob at that exact moment, the group you were fighting will chase after you. You will now be standing beside the caster, allowing you to easily taunt or just slap the loose mob silly until he aggros back on to you. Most importantly, it reduces the threat of the person you just intervened by 10% - which may be enough to drop the caster's threat below you and get the mob back to attacking you anyway. This isn't really easy to use on melee dps, as Intervene has a minimum range - you could theoretically run away and then Intervene back in, but it's probably easier to just target the mob beating on the melee dps and taunt/hammer single-target attacks.

5) Generally, most classes can take a few hits from a given mob. They aren't going to be happy if the mob is a big, scary, high-damage one, or if you let them tank it for the rest of the fight, but they'll probably survive especially if the healer tosses them a heal or two. As such, it's not the end of the world if a mob runs loose for a few seconds so long as you work on getting it back under control. The exception is bosses, but if someone peels a boss off of you there either is something wrong, or they deserve their fate. Just pretend that they were immune to/resisted the taunt. :smalltongue: Basically, if everyone survived the fight, you did your job.

6) If the rest of the group is a bunch of jerks who insist on mocking you and making your life difficult, either boot them, let them die, or just leave. They can enjoy that 20 minute wait for a new tank while you move on to the next, hopefully better, group pretty much instantly. :smalltongue: There is only so much you can do to hold aggro on a given group, especially in the early part of the fight. If the rest of the party can't work with you and acknowledge that you're still relearning how to play after all these drastic changes (and thus cut you some slack), well . . . don't take it personally and just move on. And continue to figure out what you could work on to improve (use AoE abilities faster, learn to identify and hold on to which mobs the dps are working over, react faster to sudden adds appearing, etc)

7) It's a game. Have fun.

Logged onto my Paladin, and, after double checking that it wasn't a back skill, I have one question. Why did my chance-to-stun-on-attack seal have to be removed? :smallfrown:
Edit: Durr, it was a level 64 skill. I probably should've checked on my level 80 paladin, not my 38 one. :smalltongue:

I saw a druid in bird form in Moonglade. He changed to Tauren form, but I asked him about it.

Apparently:

Go into flight form

Enter Heroic Dungeon

Teleport to Moonglade

OldWorld Flying

?????

Profit

Probably against the ToS, so I don't suggest using it, though.

Edit: Actually, I can't imagine this being against the ToS, and it doesn't provide a real advantage over other players.

Hey I am on my wow free trial and just finished the big download. Ever since it isn't working. I log in and it (sometimes) shows my character just standing there and I can't move. It jams my computer and the only way to get rid of it is to turn my computer off. When I make a new character it shows the first thing in the intro but doesn't change. The right sound comes on and it goes through the whole thing but it is just frozen there. Pretty much it freezes when I log in. I wan't to play and my free trial is slowly diminishing.Any ideas on how to fix this?

Thanks for the advice, guys. It's amazing how much you find you've forgotten when you end up having to go back to basics. Managed to tank Oculus in a PuG good enough late last night, but then again the other group members were understanding and patient.
