View Full Version : Stating a specific character

Hello, playground.
I recently saw a thread about 'stating your username' and remembered the very first character I used the name Shinken for. He was a half-youkai martial artist in a (heavily houseruled) Karyu Densetsu game.
I was thinking if I could, in fact, recreate him in D&D. He needs a humanoid form, looking a bit like Ferio from Rayearth.
His signature abilities were:

Vital point strikes. He could debuff targets and deal extra damage. I'm thinking Sneak Attack with Ambush feats, or Stunning Fist optimization. Maybe both.
Unarmed combat specialist. He was really good at punching and kicking the hell out of anyone. Probably using Shou Disciple for this.
Increased Healing Factor. His youkai blood made him heal rather fast. I need about Fast Healing 5 or something like that; can't figure out how to get it without adding weird templates.
The sword of sadness. He had Kuroiken (at first, unskilled at japanese as I was, it was called Kuronoken), a blade crafted from the sadness in his heart that he would only use on extreme situations. Soulknife, Soulbound weapon or Incarnate Weapon should do the trick.
Extremely fast. He could move very fast, fast enough the leave after-images, but I doubt I can replicate that in D&D. Some teleporting ability and high Dex should do it.
Electricity. Shinken's elemental affinity was lightning. He would create crackling purple wings to move faster, surround his fists with lightning and at times just blast enemies with huge skulls made of electricity.

Is it possible to fit this all in a D&D character? Is it possible to do it at low levels?

There is a warlock invocation that lets you dimension door and leave after-images. Also eldritch glaive could be reflavoured as a soul shinken. Warlock also gets you the lightning and the debuffing.

Lightning? Well, it gives blasting, but with an item I belive it could be lightning indeed. Warlock 6/Shou Disciple 5 could work, I believe.
I just need sneak attack and fast healing, now.

Changeling + Warshaper could get a "healing factor" of sorts (along with reach kicks and punches).

I seem to recall there being a feat to add one's Eldritch Blast damage to Natural Weapons (or shaping the EB as claws and then another feat for adding claw damage to unarmed strikes). That could be refluffed as lighting, and if you needed to do actual lighting-type damage, there's some magic item in MIC for that, I believe.

Fist & Sword (or some other 3.0 book) had a bunch of feats to make unarmed attacks cause debuffs. BoED has the Touch of Golden Rain.

Unarmed Swordmage, ask your DM for an alternate version of Desert Wind that uses electricity instead of fire. This should cover most of the points.

Oh, nice, very nice.
Anything with shapechanger subtype will do. This even makes me wonder if I can replicate his superpowered evil side in D&D.

Eldritch Claws, yes. I even have a handbook on it. ^^

Sword & Fist has it? Never noticed.
Oriental Adentures has a few, but they are humanoid-only. Shinken mostly fought (other) youkai.

Well, this is just a thought experiment. But it could work. I think you meant Swordsage, right?
I'd have to houserule away the Wisdom focus, though. Shinken definetly had low Wisdom.

Sword & Fist has it? Never noticed. There's Pain Touch, which causes Nauseated on the round after Stunning Fist, but it has a silly size requirement (doesn't work on enemies more than one category larger than you), and isn't what I was thinking anyway. I might've conflated the unarmed strike boosting feats from S&F with OA ones.

Yes, add in some ToB for the sneak attack stance and some more martial arts factor. I seem to recall somewhere an Essence invocation for lightning, but I may be wrong about that. Then there is a regional feat (Troll-blooded) that gives Regeneration 1 in a Dragon Magazine.

As a side, going with the warlock idea gives you Fiendish Resilience. Fast Healing limited by rounds/day.

Consider making the "sword of sadness" just fluff for when you use abilities that boost your attacks (Maximise SLA, etc.)

Yeah, if we are using eldritch glaive/claws it should work. Since standard attack mode will be eldritch claws, eldritch glaive being used every noe and then solves our issues.
