Okay, for the first time I used appraise on my players in a game since we actually role played selling items. Problem is I don't think I used it right. Do just the players use it, do I roll for NPC's and when the price comes out for both of them, what do I set the price at? I know it is typical that the NPC's will buy it for half price, going up or down 10-15% do to circumstances, but what is the set point? It is literally a buyers market except in unique circumstances.

Can someone tell me the proper use of this skill?

You roll appraise for your players, so they don't know if they're right or not(like spot and the like). If the NPCs specifically Appraise an item, they get a roll. If the PCs are trying to sell an item, you tell them what they think it's worth, and they set the price. Then the NPCs see if they like that price(probably Appraising as well) and bartering begins(or they just buy it).
