Hello fellow playgrounders.

It just occured to me that, at least AFAIK, there is no Pokemon RPG, although the setting is predestined for it.

Any clues why? Or am I wrong?

There is Pokéthulhu (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pok%C3%A9thulhu), where Pikachu is an eldritch horror.

Because Ninty doesn't do tabletop, and you apparently haven't done a google search (http://lmgtfy.com/?q=Pok%C3%A9mon+tabletop+RPG) for any...

Mando Knight: Just when I thought "At least Gavinfoxx spared me the LMGTFY", I read your post. Damn ninja :smalltongue:

Thanks so far, everyone, and I apologize for not phrasing it correctly. I meant something like an official RPG, as I'm pretty sure much of the games mentioned above applies Sturgeon's law.

Officially, no. And I don't think Nintendo ever will release one. Tabletop gaming isn't their thing, unless you count trading cards. Cards have been their thing long before anyone ever put "Wizards" and "of the Coast" together.

Coincidentally, WotC got the license to develop the card game for about the first five years. :smalltongue:

You are familiar with their origin as a playing card company in the 1800's, right?

Actually... I think there *was* an official Pokemon RPG, same way there was an official Jurassic Park RPG: it just bypassed all the FLRPG stores. Gimme a sec...

Found it! I knew I'd seen it somewhere. It's called the Pokemon Jr Adventure Game.

Here it is on RPG.net. (http://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/1625/pokemon-jr-adventure-game-pokemon-emergency)

Never managed to pick up a copy, sadly. But Pokethulhu would probably work just fine. Also, one of the BESM supplements (Seizure Monsters IIRC) covers the genre.

I am, actually. I'm trying to save up enough of their player rewards to get the set of hanafuda cards they have.

Back on topic, I've actually been homebrewing some Pokemon as playable races. I'm trying to stat them in the existing D&D system as opposed to making a new one.

For some reason I'd love to see Pokemon done in a D&D 4E style. You'd have to do a lot of work either adapting the system to fit pokemon or adapting pokemon to fit the system, but it would be pretty awesome. Too bad I am the only Pokemon nerd that I know.

The problem for me is that I'd love to run a Pokemon RPG, but half my friends are far more knowledgeable about the game and the world than I am, and the other half could hardly care less =/

Thanks to whoever dug up those links though!

Unfortunately, there's probably not going to be another official RPG, but I'm going to second that recommendation of Cute And Fuzzy Seizure Monsters. It was both a hilarious spoof on the genre and full of good advice for running it straight.

Not really an "official" one. However, M&M and BESM both have pet-dedicated sections precisely for playing games like Pokémon, and if not you always have Pokémon Tabletop Adventures, which is being a kind of community project over at /tg/. Never played it, but people say its shaping up pretty neat.

Just like Nintendo huh? Seems like a good start for any game company then. :smallwink:

This one's (http://s4.zetaboards.com/Pokemon_Tabletop/site/) pretty good - it uses a variant of 4E's power system, and is currently in very active development, with new versions of the beta being released every other week.

You might want to pop on over to Gaming (other) once in a while... we're on PokéThread #6 (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=167090).
