I have a theory on how Belkar will die, though it's a bit out there. Spoilered for weirdness:

Malack is going to kill Belkar for one reason or another. I present strip 666l (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0666.html), as foreshadowing of this death. Someone bony? Check. Black hood? Check. Scythe? This is an evil country, I wouldn't put it past Malack to have a scythe hidden on him. Not only that, but, the gladiator match could be the "clock running out". They even specifically said that they would be there till the end of their miserable lives in strip 736 (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0736.html), the sign the clock has ran out. I am also predicting as part of my prediction that Roy and Belkar will almost escape the arena together, but Malack will kill Belkar just before leaving, fufilling the oracles, the gladiator manager, and Roy's prophecies, simultaneously.

Submitted for your opinion, what do you guys think?

Well... it KINDA makes sense, but Malack isn't bony, he's just sickly and albino. But putting credibility to Roy's prediction (when he wasn't making a prediction via magic and was clearly referencing the grim reaper) seems extremely outlandish. In strip 736, they're saying that as the traditional 'welcome to jail. I'm your warden and i hate you a lot' speech.

Okay, I'm confused what you mean. I'm pretty sure Roy is using a bony figure in a black cloak to refer to the grim reaper (meaning death). Not to mention Roy is not a psychic so how would he even know about Malack? Also, the gladiator is saying they all have no chance of escaping. So, yeah, this seems unlikely.

Roy isn't a psychic; he's a future psychic! He totally knew :smalltongue:

Roy has that power from his great cleavage (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0102.html).

I'm pretty sure that OP is referring to the Giant foreshadowing, not whether or not Roy himself is clairvoyant, obviously ROY was talking aboutt the Grime Reaper, but I wouldn't put it past Rich to use the a double meaning in Roy's words. Not saying I think it will or won't happen, but it could. And in all fairness, Malack has ALREADY been confused with the Grim Reaper once, thank you Elan.

Edit: And Rich has foreshadowed events using simple dialogue before http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0727.html

I still find it unlikely Malack would have a chance to kill Belkar and he would want to.

Also, Elan confusing Malack for the Grim Reaper, he also thought V was part camel.

I still say say Belkar dies in some ridiculously anti-climactic way. We then see him in the afterlife all upset at how lame his own death was.

Eh... it's just a bit of stretch all around. There's certainly nothing blatantly wrong with the theory, but there's nothing particularly supportive of it either.

Did this really need it's own thread, couldn't you have used one of the three others about that topic that are on the first page alone?

"Grime Reaper" is a pretty awesome typo. "I am the Grime Reaper! I shall cleanse the world with my broom of doom!" and so forth.

I'm not trying to make fun. I really find it amusing

I just learned that Kingdom of Loathing has a "Grimy Reaper" Outfit... :smallwink:

Actually I think Belkar will die in a blaze of glory that will send him to the good aligned plane. We won't know this till later when maybe roy's father is talking to him or another member dies.

Come on if all of OoTS died and saw Belkar in the good plane they would all go mad :D

I'm not sure Belkar would be happy there :smallwink:

Aren't there nine afterlives, though, one for each alignment? Even if Belkar did enough to get into a good one (doubtful, at best, I think), he'd certainly be in the chaotic one, where he'd probably meet Elan and Haley, but not Roy or Durkon. Where Vaarsuvius will end up is anyone's guess.

It seems extremely unlikely to me that anything could redeem him and compensate a few Kilonazis of evil alignment... but it would still be extremely hilarious if he ended up in a good afterlife.
:belkar: This really sucks. Now the Belkster ends up in a place full of boring people. No more fun for me...
I bet he would be so very upset about it, even though he would see the benefits in not being tortured by fiends...

On the other hand, I feel sort of sorry for the souls in whatever Good afterlife he hypothetically gets into. He would sure find a way to ...be Belkar... in a Good afterlife, too.

Roy was talking about Death. Period. He may be a future mind-reader, but there's no reason he would predict Malack killing him, especially if the description hardly fits him.

Admittingly, this argument loses credibility after the last comic where Haley predicted the future :smallconfused:

The prediction was made by the Oracle himself in strip #572, who said "Belkar will take his last breath–ever–before the end of the year."

Remember how much of a literallist the Oracle is, and see that it doesn't specifically says he dies. Just that he takes his final breath. That could just mean he gets one of those ioun stones that mean you don't have to breathe permanently embedded in his skull. However, if he *does* die he won't get rezed (unless he dies again later).

Personally though, I favor the Undead idea. I mean, have you ever seen Malack's feet? He doesn't eat normal food, he's got a weird speech bubble, and Nale killed three of his "children". But he doesn't look married...

(P.S. I don't think Malack's a vampire. There's a picture of him outside in broad daylight in strip #758, and I think he got plenty of sun while escorting the just-captured Elan, Haley and V to the Empress of Blood. Besides, that would be way too obvious for this comic, more likely something weird or made-up.)

17 IIRC in the standard great wheel D&D cosmology.

THere's one each for the 8 non-true nuetral alighnments, and a halfway alighnment between each one (16), pluss outland for true nuetral in the middle.

Not much support, but on the other hand, why not.

However, I do get the feeling, that we will wait to the very end of those seven weeks Roy mentioned, in which case Belkar will be around for more than a few strips yet.

Who was it on this forum that said that Belkar would die when the emperess of blood axedentaly swallowed laxetives while flying in an attempt to gain weight and squished the halfling?:smallyuk:

I'd say its that, or a rip off of Back to the Future.

Ah, I'm not up on my cosmology, I guess. I've only been in one campaign where we got far enough to be traveling to other planes, and even then, we didn't plan on it, and it ended badly for the majority of the party.

He won't really die ...(i didn't read all the thread but...)

In the beginning of the story Belkar received a +4 to wisdom due to V's spell owls wisdom (d20srd says you get a +4...). He ended up healing someone and decided never to hurt another living creature again...V then dismissed the spell and Belkar went on a killing spree.

As you level up you gain bonuses to your abilities. Now I forget if in 3.5 is the same with 4e but if you automatically get bonuses to all scores at specific levels then it wouldn't be far-fetched to think that Belkar's wisdom score will eventually gain that +4 naturally. When this happens Belkar will be no more, since he wouldn't want to hurt another living creature ever again. He will stop being an adventurer and go away from the group to reflect on his life.
