Help with the Wiimote?

When I am playing Call of Duty World At War on the Wii I try to move the cross hairs with the wiimote there is a red x and while it is there I can't move the cross hairs. Does anyone know how to fix this?

Is this an issue only with this game, or do other games that rely on the pointer/crosshairs also have this error?

If it is an issue with more games:
Are there fresh batteries in the 'mote? Sometimes the IR sensor is a bit sketchy if you've got old or bad batteries.

Is the IR "sensor bar" placed where the Wiimote has a clear view of it? If it's blocked, then the Wiimote can't accurately triangulate its relative position.

Are there any large heat or light sources near your TV? Other sources of infrared radiation will also mess with the Wiimote's pinpointing ability.

If not, you can still try the above techniques... otherwise it's a software problem that I can't help you with.
