I'm planning on making a Battle Herald (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/prestige-classes/battle-herald) character for an upcoming game, starting at Level 10. I know that in order to be a Battle Herald, you need to have at least one level of Bard (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/core-classes/bard) and one level of Cavalier (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/base-classes/cavalier) for the requisite class features. I'm just wondering what the best mix of these two classes would be to make the most of Battle Herald. Cavalier 9/Bard 1? Cavalier 5/Bard 5? What Order's benefits would synergize best with the class features of the Bard and Battle Herald? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

It really depends if you want to spend lots of time mounted or not, considering some of the Cavalier's major abilities are only used while mounted.

So, if you are riding something = Cavalier primarily
Tromping about on foot = Bard primarily

I need to ask my DM that. Regarding the dichotomy though, regardless of class, is it better to split the levels evenly? Or divide them at a certain point, like 7/3, or 9/1? I'm not very good at multiclassing, so I'm not certain when the best cut-off points are for either class.

Which do you want to be more concerned with? This is really what you want to do with the character more than anything else.
