I've read somewhere on here (or thought I read) that one can get Assassin's stance with a Swordsage at lvl 2. But When I read the ToB it says its a 3rd level stance. Is there a way to get it at 2nd lvl? or did I read the post wrong?

Thanks J

You can if you are a multiclass character, since non-ToB classes count as 1/2 towards you Initiator Level.

Most likely, they were endorsing a two level dip in swordsage later in your class progression. Some people read that the first level of swordsage can only get a first level stance, which requires the second level for another stance as normal. If you have enough other class levels your second level of swordsage can get a third level stance. Something like Rogue 6/Swordsage 2 should work.

Remember that all your non-initiator levels count as 1/2 iniator level (this is why ToB Multiclassing is so nice)

You can if your Initiator level is 5 or more, to do that you usually separate your swordsage levels so you can select the Assassin stance at the 2nd level

Usually done as this Swordage 1(IL +1)/X Class 4 (IL +2)/ Swordsage +1 (IL=5)

Makes sense?

Edit: Swordsaged twice, Ironically fitting

Usually done as this Swordage 1(IL +1)/X Class 4 (IL +2)/ Swordsage +1 (IL=5)

That only accounts for an IL of 4. You need 6 levels in other classes plus 2 of Swordsage to equal IL 5 (as stated by Glimbur).

Swordsage 1/Rogue 3/Ardent 3/Swordsage + 1

So would Rogue 2/Swordsage 2 work for a lvl 3 stance since 1/2 of 2 is 1 + the SS 2 = 3?

Edit: jk I read it wrong i have to be atleast level 6

It's like spell levels. 3rd level stance means IL of 5 to learn. I don't know why they kept this naming convention, as it confuses people.
