For me, tonight, it's orange juice and vodka. Lovely, just lovely. It's going pretty well with the low down sixties feel The Black Angels are providing for me tonight, er, this morning. Nice. Anyway, im curious. What libations does the playground prefer?

Sweet tea.
Maybe an Arnold Palmer.

I have a love-hate relationship with Dr. Pepper.
I have a love-love relationship with the various, different coke concoctions.
I also like the Spring Valley juices.

Orange juice + vodka is a screwdriver by the way. Coincidentally, it's my choice of drink if I wish to get very drunk very fast (:

I generally go for vodka mixes or cider. Not a fan of beer or wine in the slightest. I'm also quite partial to some Captain Morgan's and coke. Or most any rum and coke. Rum and coke is just good.

As for non-alcoholic, all solo all the time. Also pepsi and milk :D But not together, that would be nasty :bleh:

Oh I know about screwdrivers, it's just that some people dont. it seems to be a very American (or english speaker) drink.

Ive found im not really a fan of beer either, though some wine is good. funny, thing, the cheaper some wines get, the better, until your down to Mad Dog 20/20, witch im pretty sure is brewed in oil drums down by the train tracks.

Alcohol:
http://www.1-877-spirits.com/store/images/large/Disaronno-Liqueur-lg.jpg.jpg
2x Disaronno + 3x fresh orange + 2x cranberry =
Also mixing it with coke makes alcohol that tastes exactly like Dr. Pepper and is my go-to drink when convincing people who don't like the taste of alcohol to try some.

Soft Drink: Lemon Fanta. Childhood memories from Spain before it was available here are supplemented by the Lemony goodness.

TEA!

... and apart from that in the realms of hot drinks, I'm partial to hot chocolate, and even the occasional coffee.

As for soft drinks, I like just about anything, but especially the standards (Pepsi and Coke), Fanta Fruit Twist, passion fruit juice, cranberry juice, any kind of juice except orange juice, and good ol' water.

Alcoholically speaking, any kind of pear cider is delicious, especially St. Helier. I'm with Nameless on Kopparberg being tasty too. Apple cider is hit-or-miss. It can be wonderful (the Kopparberg) or absolutely dreadful (Strongbow :smallyuk:) Whiskey's good for lounging around on rainy autumn nights listening to Bohren und der Club of Gore. And lastly, Coke, Jack Daniel's and the aforementioned Disaronno goes down ridiculously well. :smallcool: I'm not a huge fan of wine though. Or most beers.

Hmm. Alcoholic, I am rather fond of white russians/mudslides.

Tea: Rooibos is my favorite general tea-like beverage, for the smell of the tea itself, earl grey, and for the taste of the tea itself, lady grey.

Mmm, bergamot. I was far too amused when I learned you could harvest bergamot when I was first playing TES: Oblivion x.x

Soda: Probably Dr. Pepper as my general drink of choice.

Really though, I'm kinda glad that I predominantly drink water unlike some people I've known... :smalleek:

Non-alcoholic: Orange soda is my addiction. Southern Sweet Tea. Cream soda. Vanilla coke. Cranberry juice. Pink lemonade. White chocolate mocha.

Alcoholic: Lately, I've been drinking cosmopolitans like the woman I am :smalltongue:
Vodka is my preferred alcohol, especially citron/lemon flavored, which mixed well with lemonade or Sprite/lemon-lime soda.
Margaritas make me happy, too.

Dr. Pepper is one of my faves (although I wish I knew why it tasted better out of a can than it does out of a plastic bottle!). Teetotaller, so don't drink anything alcoholic, and I don't drink coffee anymore because it seems to do nasty things to my kidneys.

Pepsi (or coke, secondarily) and Sierra Mist/Sprite/7 Up (completely interchangeable).

Apart from sodas, I sometimes drink grape juice, chocolate milk, and koolaid at home. And of course just plain water.

I don't drink anything alcoholic. Don't have any interest in consuming anything that can affect you the way that can.

Cold Drinks:
I drink a lot of water and cola-type-beverages - I don't care what kind, but have a preference for the sugar free stuff cause it's better for my teef.

Hot drinks:
Green tea and fennel tea. About the only hot drinks I imbibe.

Soft Drinks
- A&W Cream Soda
- Any orange creme
- Mr. Pibb
- Cherry Coca Cola

Juices
- Cranberry
- Limeade
- Del Monte's Pina Colada

Hard Stuff
- Don't touch it, though if I did would probably be pina colada or anything rum-based as I enjoy everything rum-flavored (withou actually being alcoholic). Banana jack dessert, mmm, baby...

Hot
Love me some spiced chai and hot chocolate (together or separate)

Hate coffee and almost all non-indian teas. Can tolerate some asian teas, but the root and sweet teas of my native south USA make me gag. Can't take anything weak. If I want watery, I'll have water. If I want taste, I want TASTE.

My favourite drink tends to vary. For non-alcoholic drinks it drifts from chocolate milk to orange juice and sometimes soda. I can't really point out anything specifically.

As for alcoholic beverages I've taken a liking to guinness stout, provided I drink it infrequently. 'Brown' or sugared beer is also nice from time to time.

Milk. I usually go through a couple quarts a day.

A&W Root Beer (tap is best...)

I agree with you. Not only is 75% of the population lactose intollerant (meaning we do not produce the enzyme lactase that allows us to digest milk in the first place) but there is no creature out there that drinks milk past the weaning stage. Therefore, in my logic.. we're not supposed to be drinking it.

But it's also gross. Bleugh.

75%?
Are you sure?

I can maybe believe 25% of the population, but if its 75% I've apparantly lived my whole life around the 25% that can tolerate milk, as I've only met one lactose intolerant person.

It depends on the location the intolerance. Europeans and those of european descent usually have no problem. Its a genetic survival thing. Most asians, however, are completely intolerant.

Also, animals don't wean past a certain stage because the mother can't be doing it all her life. Animals are known for stealing milk from others. Humans find nourishment in it, can keep other animals producing it steadily by feeding them our crap, or whatever we want chewed down anyways.

'A land of milk and honey', i.e. where you don't have to work hard to get it. Both are substances where we just harvest with little to no effort on our own parts. That right there is totally human :smallwink:

I'd assume most don't know they're lactose intollerant. IIRC we have the ability to digest certain amounts of milk, but after a point we run out of enzymes and can't go much more. There's only a small percentage of people that produce lactase. I assume that most other people just have iron guts. We're used to digesting processed foods and mcdonalds, I don't think anyone is gonna notice a milk upset compared to a lot of other things we ingest.

for reference. (http://www.pcrm.org/health/veginfo/lactose_intolerance.html)

75% of what population? The world? Ahh, the world.
Whites?
Northern Europeans?
Southern Europeans?

Depending upon where your genetic ancestors arose, the rates are going to be different.

So... because other groups of people can't drink milk as adults I should give up my ancestor's hard won ability to retain those enzymes? :smallconfused:

Cheese is unnatural, but you're never going to be able to convince the French to stop making Bree, after all.

Retaining the enzymes, however the heck it came about, is entirely something our bodies and genetics did on their own with no conscious meddling.

Nothing wrong with women drinking whiskey! Or whisky. Or scotch. or Rye!

Which brings me to another awesome drink: Rye and Ginger. Of course, if it's really GOOOD rye, still have it straight. But you know the drill.

Edit: Rye is also sometimes known as Canadian Whisky.

Speaking of milk, has anyone tried goat's milk?
I've had goat's milk homemade ice cream before. Best ice cream ever. Might have been just because it was homemade. >> But my cousin is allergic to cow's milk and they had a goat on their farm growing up. I think I tried goat's milk straight once. I don't recall it being any different than cow's milk. *shrug*

Let's see now...

Hot Drinks:
Coffee (black only, plz) or a latté or some hot cocoa now and then. Mostly coffee though.

Soft Drinks (or soda... or pop... or whatever):
Diet Mountain Dew is what I usually consume. Not too proud of that but eh... we can't be all gourmet all the time. Root beer. I prefer decent stuff but, really, nearly any root beer is good root beer. Dr. Pepper now and then is alright too.

Alcoholic Drinks:
Mixed Drinks: Gin and Tonics. I'm very picky about my gin. Tanqueray is only okay. Bombay Sapphire is... ew. Most rail gin is ew, in fact. Beefeater Wet (they stopped making it T.T) was very good. Hendrick's is my first choice, usually, now, though few places seem to carry it. And every now and then I'll have a White Russian (the Dude abides, man).
Wine: a good German Riesling Spätlese. Hands down.
Beer: Leinenkugel Honey Weiss, Meetup™ Brand Hippie Brew P=, Most anything by New Glarus (especially their custom-made small batch stuff), and the occasional summer Corona with lime.
Straight:Probably a decent scotch.

Other:
Skim milk or water, usually. The occasional orange juice with a breakfast that includes bacon because OJ and bacon go awesome together.

Hurm, a popular subject. Kudos to all you folk drinking straight vodka. Ive gotta mix mine with something, be it orange juice or green Kool-aid. The only thing i can drink straight is expensive whiskey.

I just take both straight. I put it down to my Russian roots. One of the first things my Russian cousin said to me when we first met a couple of years back was even incredibly stereotypical.

"Come, we talk and drink."

Of course my Russian family is pretty much a very big bunch of walking clichés

Clichés that have delicious vodka.

Also Ouzo. Which is amazing.

Of non-alcoholic drinks I quite like Cream Soda, Pepsi, various energy drinks and coffee, generally mochas because I love chocolate,

I drink the tap water so long as it doesn't taste like a color. If it's summertime and it tastes green, I boil it. If it tastes brown or gray at ANY time of year, I filter it and/or buy distilled water.

For fruit juice, we've been keeping the Polish grocery stores in business, trying all the mixed fruit juices they offer. Their imagination is dazzling. Apple-lime-prickly pear. Orange-grape-some lumpy unidentified fruit (from one of the shops which doesn't attach English labels). Peach-redcurrant. Lime-grape.

I don't drink booze because I am a prude. Also because I hate the smell of beer, so I imagine I wouldn't like the taste. I've tried exactly two sips of white and red wine at various family gatherings, given to me by my aunts behind my mother's back, and both tasted like grape juice to me. I hate grape juice. :smallyuk:
I did once accidentally drink half of my uncle's orange juice + something fizzy and alcoholic (no clue what, I assumed at the time vodka but I don't know if vodka is carbonated) once, assuming it was my orange juice. :smalleek:

My family drinks a lot of milk, though. Fresh from local cows, mmmmm tasty. It is my firm opinion that a cookie should never, ever, be consumed without milk. Never. >=I When we run out, water's good, and I get orange juice fairly often. I prefer it with pulp, but my brother complains so we compromise and get it without. I dislike carbonated drinks, because the fizzy-ness hurts my tongue, but CC Lemon, a carbonated lemonade from Japan, with 32 LEMONS IN EVERY BOTTLE (I hope that's Engrish, because it's faaaar too sweet to have that many lemons in it. Not sure if that's the advertised number, either, but it sounds right.) is delicious enough to be drinkable, if I leave it out for a while so it's flat when I drink it.

For hot drinks, earl grey all the way, double-double. Hot chocolate when I just want to drink something warm without having the caffeine. EDIT: Hot chocolate from Tim Hortons, I should stress. Best. Hot chocolate. Ever. I keep a special tin of their powder hidden so that I'm the only one in the house who can get to it.

I don't know, I just don't like the idea of being under the influence of a chemical that I can't produce naturally, which is hypocritical of me, because I drink tea when I have early class, but meh. That said, virgin margaritas are freaking delicious.
I can respect that position, and I used to adhere to a similar one. Personally, once I started making allowances for caffeine and energy drinks, it became pretty hard to justify not drinking booze. I hate the taste of booze, but I drink to be social. Of course, I don't always drink beer, but when I do (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eFUpHZlGxu4)...I actually prefer bud light. Other than that, it all tastes equally horrendous to me, except for Tequila and Vodka, those are less terrible than the rest. Screwdrivers FTW.

Your opinion on beer matches my opinion of red wine. I hate the smell, so I assume I dislike the taste.

Interesting. Your opinion of wine matches my opinion of popcorn.

I don't drink alcohol a whole lot, because I'm underaged and I dislike the taste.

So non-alcoholic drinks-wise...love coffee, Milo, and Appletiser. Nom.

I could be wrong, but you appear to enjoy coke.

I am of the opinion that every non-dairy drink can be improved by the addition of Coke.

I prefer drinks I like to be served at room temperature. It allows for optimal flavor appreciation, yet all the time I see people storing drinks in their fridge or dropping in a few ice cubes. The only time I like a cold drink is when the drink tastes like crap, like most varieties of beer, or when it's ridiculously hot out and I am melting.

That is a very good point. I always find with coke, for example, that you can really taste all the goodness that you miss when it's cold. maybe that's why people say there's no difference between coke:smallbiggrin: and pepsi:smallyuk:

Of course this doesn't apply to milk.

Amaretto, Amarula, Kahlua, ice. Equal parts of the three liqueurs, technically, but I always vary 'em up a bit. Anyway, all those liqueurs are delicious. Wines I generally don't like, but white wine with creme de Cassis is fantabulous. Beer's fine. I'm kind of a liqueur person - I like the colors and the flavors and the mixing of those flavors and it's just neat. Winging your own stuff is fun - like cooking but quicker.

Soft drinks: Cream soda and root beer are both drinks I drink. Also Dr. Pepper, but less so than a good root beer. Every time I see a more interesting soda (Ie, one I've never seen in Montreal) I wanna snap 'em up, and I generally love them, but by definition I can't get 'em regularly. I saw a show on Food Network that showed lavender soda - I wanted it so bad.

Hot drinks: Strong coffee's nice. Hot coffee from powders and stuff I usually find pretty watery, but there's one place I know that makes what is essentially frothy melted chocolate bar with cream and when you get that stuff, by the power of Greyskull is it amazing. I love me tea as well, 'specially Earl Grey. Flavored black teas are generally great, like this black tea with dried mango bits, or with dried coconut, that I got upstairs. When it comes to herbal teas, they smell AMAZING and always taste like boiled water, so while I'd love to drink them I guess I'm not sophisticated enough for them.

Other drinks: Nothing's more fun than digging around your house and making a ridiculous smoothie.

P.S. Does anyone know a good cocktail with Marie Brizzard "Parfait Amour" orange liqueur?

Don't find it significantly different from any other liquorice-or-anise-flavored beverage. Also didn't turn me insane, much to my disappointment. It is, however, very bohemian and classy.

As far as alcohol is concerned, Ouzo. Of course, I'm prone to putting anise extract in hot chocolate, and using anise proper as a staple, so Ouzo being alcoholic is entirely besides the point.

Otherwise, tea and coffee are staples, as well as the aforementioned hot chocolate in winter. No, I don't care that it is theoretically for 7 year olds, its delicious.

Then there are soft drinks. I have a replacement:

Beer:

Guinness.

I am a caffeine addict, but coffee makes me sleepyer, not more awake, it is probably something about the warmness, so my drink of choice is Dr. Pepper.

If by frequency of consumption: boiled water. I've found that caffeine makes me extremely irritable. In smaller doses it's nice, but I was putting black tea leaves into a cup and refilling it for 8 hours a day at work. I was "unpleasant" to be around when I got home at night.

If by flavor: hard to say, but probably my own recipe for masala chai latte, prepped on a gas stove top. Electric stoves seem to screw up the amount and speed of the heating process and it ends up tasting not as good.

If alcohol only: lately I've taken a shine to the Leinenkugel's Classic Amber. I like amber beers in general, and I'll even drink a lager as long as it's Harbin or Sapporo Draft Black Label. I no longer drink liquor.

Lessee...

I love beer, and have a pretty varied taste. I tend to prefer Belgian or English style beers/ales, but I also like good german style beers (IE not lagers). For brand I either drink imported or microbrew, my favourite commercial microbreweries are Dieu du Ciel! and 3 mousquetaires, both based near Montreal. Favourite beer type would be a tossup between Belgian abbey beer and a good IPA

I also like wine, cider and mead.

Strong stuff, I love rum, either straight or in a drink, also partial to Jagermeister. Cocktail-wise, I love Long Island iced tea with Sprite, liquid cocain (either half and half Jager and goldshlagger in a shot glass, or 2/3 jager 1/3 gold over ice cubes), porn stars (blue curacao, sour puss, vodka, sprite), Johnny Walker Red label straight up, Southern Comfort 7-Up.

I basically like a lot of stuff, but I usually can't stand the cheap stuff.

Non alcoholic, I mostly drink water, coffee and tea (on average about 2 liters of tea a day)

About 90% of the time I just drink water (whether bottled or tap, I prefer the taste of bottled but the waste makes me feel guilty:smallfrown:). The only time I have milk is with cereal or hot chocolate. When I'm out at a restaurant I'll either get a coke, root beer, or cream soda (the only time I drink soda without alcohol) or water if the restaurant is on the fancier side (something just doesn't seem right about having a filet mignon and a coke).

As for alcohol, I'll have just about everything. The only thing I don't like is 'normal' beer (with hops and whatnot). Bitter is supposed to be a bad taste, why ruin perfectly good liquid bread with it? I also don't like most white wines, they just taste weird to me:smallconfused:. I also had 151 proof vodka straight once, that was no fun. My favorite drink is either rum and coke, vodka and cream soda (weird, but amazingly delicious), Bailey's straight, or spiced rum straight, depending on how I'm feeling.

I don't like coffee or tea. I know this seems hypocritical considering that I like booze, but something just seems unsettling about needing your fix every morning to be functional. I find an apple or other sugary fruit with breakfast and lunch does the job of keeping me energized all day.

Considering I'm not the legal age to drink yet... :smalltongue:

Favorite morning drink/hot drink - Hot chocolate. I can't drink coffee, its just overly caffeinated

Favorite work drink(also, non alcoholic mixed drink) - I work in food, so there is a soda fountain there. I usually will mix about 3/4 - 4/5 sierra mist, equal parts Pepsi and Dr. pepper or Pepsi and root beer, and occasionally a slight touch of red Gatorade. I think it tastes pretty good, but I wouldn't mind if you thought I was crazy.

Favorite soda - Orange Crush, I even have a t-shirt

Favorite workout drink - Water, of course.

This was apparently developed by a food scientist to keep you marginally thin while getting your drink on:

Norcal Margarita:
in a rocks glass over ice
2 shots tequila (preferably gold)
The juice of a whole lime, fresh squeezed
Splash of soda water

The lack of triple sec makes the drink all about the tequila. If you like the taste of tequila, that's a good thing. It removes the chances for bad triple sec to ruin a perfectly good glass of tequila. The lime juice makes the drink less acidic, apparently, and the soda helps you absorb the alcohol faster and more efficiently, getting you drunk faster and for less alcohol. As the dude says, "better living through chemistry."

I will basically drink anything alcoholic, however, excepting IPAs and anything else incredibly hoppy.

As for non-alcoholic beverages, I prefer teas and juices. The occasional clear soda (sprite, sierra mist) and root beer find their way into my arsenal, but cola is a very, very rare choice.

Considering I love the idea of chai and haven't yet tasted a good chai latte...wanna post that recipe?

Ya okay. It's probably similar to other chai recipes, or an amalgamation of several, but here goes:

2-3 Tbsp loose leaf black tea of your choice. You can also use bagged tea if you like, use 1-2 bags (pull off the strings)
Fresh ginger, 4-6 slices slices (or 1 tbsp 100% ginger juice if you're blessed to find it)
4-6 green cardamom pods, crushed to let the seeds' flavor out
3-5 whole cloves, crushed just a bit
1" cinnamon stick or a pinch of cinnamon powder. Stick cinnamon won't leave dregs!
a dash or two of black pepper. You can grind some fresh black pepper if you like.
3 cups milk. 2% is best, unless you want to try whole.
Honey to taste. It's important to be HONEY and not sugar.

I've tried with electric and gas stoves, and it works better on gas stoves.

Put all ingredients except honey into a pot and bring to a near boil (if you can manage, mine always boils over :smallsigh:). Bring down to small flame and let simmer for about 10 minutes (I like it strong). You do need to keep an eye on it and stir, or the milk will scald/burn. After everything is steeped to taste, remove from heat and add honey to taste. I would advise starting with less and adding slowly.

Strain your tea (this is when bagged tea is nice) and enjoy warm. You can and probably should add water if you think it's too strong. Personally I like the kick of undiluted.

Ooh, forgot to mention hot drinks!

I like tea, to some extent. I haven't had opportunity to try many varieties, but my favorite of what I have had is vanilla chai. Mint tea is also good.
I also love hot chocolate; I use the mix because I'm lazy, but I add cinammon, vanilla, and sometimes honey.
