in a friend's campaign, I plan on being an arcane hierophant (which allows up to medium, nonmetal armor without spell failure). So I was wondering... is there any way armor made from powerful creatures could act as some kind of odd Hide armor with very minor benefits?

In pathfinder there is a rhino hide armor that gives you a bonus to charging IIRC. obviously thats not useful in this situation, but the basis is to get a benefit based on the creature whose hide makes your armor, so you could talk to your dm about making something specific for an arcane caster by using the hide of a particular creature.

Check MiC. I'm sure there's something in there.

Dragoncraft Armour from Draconomicon has minor benifits pending what colour the dragon was

I'll give MiC a try, maybe I missed something... what I'm thinking is more along the lines of something like Beholder-hide, Displacer-hide, maybe if possible, Tarrasque-hide armor (unlikely... but a man can dream though, can't he?)
