In comic #678 (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0678.html) Blackwing says:
"The important thing is this needless conflict is now over without the loser's entire family line being totally eradicated. So, you know. Progress"
That is quite obviously a reference to when soul-spliced Vaarsuvius performed the Familicide spell. How did Blackwing find out about that? He wasn't present until Vaarsuvius teleported to Azure City, at which point the spell had already been cast. Have familiars some telepathic bond that let them know what their masters are doing? If so, why was Vaarsuvius unaware of the world within the Rift?(It's reasonable that it should also work the other way around in such case) And why was Blackwing even willing to appear in#440 (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0440.html) if he knew what was waiting?
The simplest solution would be that Vaarsuvius simply told him, but doing that would indicate that s/he's willing to talk about the familicide openly, something it's indicated that s/he's not in #667 (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0667.html), and earlier strips indicate unwillingness (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0335.html) to talk about embarrassing events. Plus that the order didn't realize that Vaarsuvius thought Blackwing was present until they arrived at Sandsedge, so they'd probably assume s/he was talking to them.
Or maybe I am simply reading to much into it without considering that familiars are supposed to be trusted.
What are your thoughts?
