View Full Version : The Inquisition

The Holy Inquisition is an unseen force in our world. Though unknown by the majority of the settled lands, the Inquisition is a powerful faction that monitors and, to an extent, controls the leaders of the world.

However powerful the Inquisition is, it is susceptible to corruption. Power enough to control, in a sense, most of the world, can lead to madness, and turn some Inquisitorial leaders to the path of evil. This is where Inquisitorial Hit Squads come in.

Whether it be a corrupt Inquisitor or a demonically posessed duke, Inquisitorial Hit Squads are despatched to remove the influence of such individuals. But not all Hit Squads arrive in time to save city's population, or the underlings of an Inquisitor, and sometimes thousands of people are killed to prevent the spread of evil.

You are one such individual. Trianed in martial, arcane or divine talents powerful enough to destroy an entire legion of demon underlings, you are a member of such a Hit Squad. To most, you are a myth. To others, you are a legionnaire of the gods, sent to do their bidding. To fewer still, you are a savior, an angel of divine retribution who will smite evil in all its forms.

But to the forces of evil, you are a demon, a force whispered in only the darkest places of the realms of chaos. You are a silent killer. You are death.

You are a Inquisitorial Hitman.

So, here you stand, at the gates of the traitorous King Siegfried Solomon III, whose tyranical reign has seen the fall of hundreds of civilized lands. Your objective is simple: in and out, make nothing but a corpse, leave nothing but fear. Fear for those who would follow King Solomon's example, leading a blasphemous army to conquor civilization.

The gates are well guarded. You stand a mere eighty feet from the entrance, hidden in bushes. How do you proceed?

Axle the Mighty
After having surveyed the situation carefully, Axle shares his delicately formulated plan with the rest of the group. Oi say we go straigh' in. Smash the gates, kill anyone what gets in our way. Shock and awe, yeah?

"Shock and awe is a solid tactic on the battle field, but our numbers right now can be counted on one hand. I would prefer we go under the guise of traveling merchants, or sell swords, an all out attack would only hinder us and give time for anyone who is important to flee. I say we sneak in the city find out the schedule of our target and strike when he at his weakest"
does our team know anything more about this city and it's king?

No OOC thread?
and cardboard box, do you have a speech color?
And DM, you do know we have 6 people :smalltongue: not many campaigns have this many.

Brenmanika the Mad
Agreed. My ooze adaptations would assist in this, I would have a better chance sneaking than fighting. Our chances against that army are very slim, we didn't come here to burst into an entire kingdom. he turns to the golem You, on the other hand, may be a problem to sneak in. I suggest we hide you in an unnoticeable place in a caravan of some sort, you would be a "project" the king is working on,but only if you can control your battle urges and stay very still.

Anselm The Wise

Anselm turns to the rest of the party, with a glint in his eye and a subtle smile on his face. "Gentleman I propose that we split into 2 teams, anyone with any...lets say social etiquette should stay with the Golem to gain entrance via the main gate; the rest of the group who has any experience with stealth and concealment can look for a more....less traveled way, unless someone has a better plan, I'am all ears" Anselm turns away from the party and says a little prayer. If the party agrees to the plan then I will cast divine insight for diplomacy. If not then I will just say a little prayer then :). Divine insight allows me to have a 5+caster level insight bonus to any skill check until it is discharged and it last one hour per level my caster level is 9.

Ah... if only my training was more complete...
Anyways, I am not good at talking to others who don't understand my ways but through the strength of oozes I can meld my face to that of others. I think we should kill a few guards first to take there armor, we would pass off well. Although I do think others than me and the warforged should speak. I will make invisible those that seek to sneak around but it might exhaust many of my spells.

Anselm The Wise

Anselm turns around and faces the ooze master and smiles.I'm not opposed to pose as guards to gain entry. That is a solid idea that we can work upon. But the first thing I must be certain is whether these men and women are just pawns on the kings chessboard, or whether they are aware of the kings atrocity's and if they are willing participants. Also we would have to wait for a patrol to come through here and we do not know how much time we have if any at all. Anselm sits down and waits for the party's response.

Nerris The Savage

From the mummy like shroud of bandages on the fringe of the bushes, Nerris whispers gratingly, "If this was going to be easy, it wouldn't be a fortress, I can be invisible on my own, and I can teleport...I'll be on the stealth team." The single red glow from where his eyes should be fixates on Anselm,
"Don't say anything stupid."

He's in the burial shroud, just like the pic, but bandages
Also, would blue be a fine color for my character?

Ignus Ironarm

Ignus, not really much for forethought, or really any kind of thought for that matter, lets himself settle further into the ground, on his stomach in order to remain unseen with his smaller companions in the bushes. I'm not exactly hard to see. I should probably try to pass as a guard, if we can find a uniform big enough for me. Or maybe we could just kinda trickle in one at a time? Or there's always the old standby of some of us pretending to be bounty hunters and the rest the criminals. Whatever we do I hope I get to fight soon. I'm getting bored.

I can stalk around...look for a suitably sized "secret entrance". With a twist of his neck, the single point of red gazes off into the distance...

Anselm The Wise

Anselm turns away and lets out a quiet laugh. "Perhaps he came peacefully" Noticing that his companion is gazing off into the distance, he beckons for the other three to walk with him to the gates. "We might as well get this mission started, if things go badly then you will get your fight."

The dice roller isn't working, so I can't roll a spot check

Ignus Ironarm

Slowly rising to his full height Ignus chuckles deep in his throat. Squeezing his fists so that his knuckles pop he moves to follow Anselm. As much fun as I'd have I don't think a fight at the gate is the best idea, he mutters. Let's hope we can find another way.

Armos Madigad! Brenmanika chants as he touches himself, Ignus and (nerris if he has no armor)

That should prevent too much damage. I personally am not killing all of them at once, we might be able to distract some and kill others but that is too powerful a force.

2(or 3) of my level one spells used, 5(or 4) more left. Mage armor gives 4 AC for 10 hours at my level.

Anselm

Anselm walks with both eyes peering at the gates, looking for anything that might catch his eye with the guards. [roll0]
"Be wary of our friends movements, we do not want to be walking into a trap. I will guise myself as a bodyguard of Brenmanika. Brenmanika if you will assume the position of creator of our experiment. Ignus if you will play the role the...handler, if anything goes wrong with Axle then you are the only one that is able to physically handle it And Axle all I need you to do is look intimidating.
Now remember we are on a mission for this king. And we are testing our abilities in front of the King. All we are doing is choosing to omit certain information."

Casting Divine insight.

Don't know, I've gotten used to it after all these years. Feels good to get that power-rush.

Good evening gentlemen. Brenmanika says to the guards. My bodyguard would like to tell you about my group's latest project.

I think cardbordbox!'s roll is above mine for diplomacy.
I don't know if I have to make one.

Anselm The Wise

Anselm greets the guardsmen as they step up to the gate. "My good Sirs, my companions and I are on a mission for the king, for today we are to demonstrate a new project that we are quite excited about. for today is the culmination of what we have been working on, to create a machine of war with a freethinking mind. A beast with a heart of Man. Today we are to show the king its true power, and all I ask of you is entry into this fine city." Anselm waits for the guards response.

I'm using detect evil while I'm talking, my next course of actions will be determined when I find out if there good or evil

No, not yet. We must move. Now.

You stalk the hallways ever so silently, slipping past the occasional guard or servant, when eventually you find yourself standing before the massive gates to the King's chamber. Five guards are between you and your goal. You must not be seen.
