Let's Play GenGame II: [Message redacted enjoy GenCola]

Last time, on GENGAME...


BH begins playing a new game with her friends, MG and SM. They start out in the MECHANOFORTRESS, which will serve as their main base throughout the game. The MANIACAL OVERLORD MACHINE, aka MOM, greets the players and informs them that the MECHANOFORTRESS is overrun with ROGUE robots, which must be exterminated.

BH and SM go on ahead, fighting ROGUS and eventually coming to the BOSS ROGUE, which must be defeated to gain control of the MECHANOFORTRESS. MG remains behind to work on an invention. BH and SM fight the BOSS ROGUE but seem to be losing, when suddenly the game crashes.

MG, outside of the game, applies a special patch to her ROUTER that was given to her by BH. SM is having trouble applying the patch, so MG goes on ahead while BH assists her. MG deploys the MISSILE LAUNCHER she had been working on to destroy the BOSS ROGUE. However because of min/maxing, the rocket travels extremely slowly. MG retreats to wait for it's inevitable demise.

Above, MG opens the secret door to STAGE ZERO, planning to use her outside knowledge to navigate it and collect a number of useful items. However, instead of STAGE ZERO she finds that the door simply opens to an endless black void in all directions, even behind the door she came through. Confused, she leaves and moves upstairs.

JH, a member of the enemy team, approaches the MECHANOFORTRESS and begins firing a cannon at it, intending to test the defenses. Finding no resistance, JH moves into the MECHANOFORTRESS to confront the players directly. JH finds MG alone, and engages her. Just before JH can defeat MG, SM and BH enter the game, and surprise attack JH, dealing significant damage.

After a short skirmish, JH retreats. BH pursues, leaving MG and SM behind. Below, BH attempts to engage JH, but is countered and thrown across the room. BH uses her ACTION and SUAVE points to detonate a bomb she retro-actively placed on JH, but can't stop herself from sliding across the floor and through the door to STAGE ZERO, and begins falling.

MG and SM, unable to contact BH, decide to continue on with the game without her for now. They begin planning their next move, assuming that BH will fix whatever problems she's having soon.

After some time, BH lands undamaged, and finds herself in a strange, seemingly half-finished world. Wandering the halls, BH finds a room that changes size when a dial is turned on it, a construction robot with a whole world inside of it, and other oddities. Eventually BH manages to access an old-style computer terminal, which has a program on it that allows her to view the other players. After a short conversation with MG and SM, BH is interrupted by SOMETHING.

SM, still confused as to what BH is up to, continues on her quest to restore the SACRED FLAME to the TEMPLE. Inside the temple, SM is confronted by a RUNED SHADOWBEAR, a stronger variety of the minor minions she had been fighting. After a short and one-sided spar, the RUNED SHADOWBEAR makes off with the SACRED FLAME. No longer warded off by the light of the SACRED FLAME, the SHADOWBEARS and other monsters begin to move in on SM, who retreats to a side passage.

In a small room, SM finds a SHADOWBEAR reading a POLITICAL MAGAZINE, and is QUITE DISAPPROVING of his behavior. She confiscates the MAGAZINE and recruits the SHADOWBEAR to be her SQUIRE, transforming him into a CADDYBEAR.

Now with someone to conveniently carry her large amount of swords, SM proceeds on to confront the HORDE of SHADOWBEARS, track down the RUNED SHADOWBEAR, and finally re-light the TEMPLE….just as soon as she finishes fully exploring the rest of this side-passage…

Fortunately, domo has had no such issues, and while I have no update to give you right now, I promise that it will be done by tomorrow, though. There's also a certain something extra coming down the pipes, which may be ready tomorrow, maybe later in the week. But I'll let domo announce that, since he deserves all the praise for this particular item. :smallwink:

If that's the default? I've never pulled a wallpaper from anywhere but the MobDecor app, and currently have an "Innocence Proves Nothing" deal.
It's just that good phone backgrounds are difficult because I need my apps to show and not ruin the picture. Plus, they still have to look good/suitably epic when I pan the screen.
I have a Samsung Moment if that helps your "what resolution" question any.

You start poking around in the darkness. Is it just you, or is it really quiet in here?

You find a rather large spear stuck into a stone pedestal...isn't it usually swords that are stuck in stones? Maybe it's just you, but you really prefer a nice thick sword stuck in your stones than a long thin spear. At least it's not a puny little dagger, but still.

You quickly replace the RUNED SPEAR with one of your STARTER SWORDS, causing...

...nothing to happen. You kinda expected rumbling and giant boulders to chase you. Maybe even a boss or two to jump out. Possibly even someone to declare you queen, as is tradition with items in stones. Peculiar.

Caddybear: Inform MISTRESS of the Shadowbear's Weakness to LIGHT. Which is precisely Why the Horde overpowered her earlier after she lost the Sacred Flane. Duh.

realize that what you originaly thought to be a spear is actualy a glaive which is a spear that has a sword at the end then break of the excess of the spear so you can use it as a sword while the caddy bear accidentily triggers a trap that sends you to the shadowbear throne room where the runed shadowbear and his army of lesser shadowbears wait at which point your new sword will start reacting to the sacred flame taking on a will of its own and killing all shadowbears in the room so that we no longer have to worry about them and can wonder about the other two members of your group who we have not seen in god knows how long and are probably dead.

That being said, we have a problem here. I called my provider and he said that the CPU/HDD load for that site (unrelated to GG) is too big for the hosting package it's on.
I apparently need to rent out a dedicated server for this, which is a tad more expensive than the 2,50€ a month we had so far. (By a factor of 10, pretty much) :smallfrown:

This is gonna require more thought.

Alright, let's analyze this loot.
Clear Clever: Might as well just ad this to our ever growing collection of swords, it's not the greatest sword out there, but it's probably pretty good.
Dynamo Derringers: Get these to BH as soon as you can. Duel wielding pistols gives you lots of good ways to build up Action points.
Tree Thrasher: Maybe Reginald can use it? Otherwise, just hang onto it.
Plated Plait: Is this Armor? It's probably an upgrade to whatever your currently wearing, so you might as well hang onto it.
Revolving Revolver: Though BH could use this, she'll get more out of the Dynamo Derringers. Give this to MG, she can use it to make a Gearbox Gunslinger.

Mmm, you really love those foreshadows, they really make the PLAITS stand out. It's amazing how much graphics have improved. I mean, 50 years ago they didn't even have quad grafting! Not that you actually know what that means, but it sure sounds like it makes things look cooler.

Well, it's a bit brighter now, but there's really not all that much in here. It just feels...empty. Also very quiet. Shouldn't there be spooky background music or something? The Shank seems like something BH can use. The Killgun would be a nice weapon to put on a Clockwork Construct.

We still arn't entirely sure what class SM is, so we don't know what type of minion Reginald Caddybear is.
If, for example, he's a Squire, then he can use the same weapon types that we use, primarily swords. If he's a minion, he'll have to stick to his natural attacks (Which we can upgrade). If he's a Follower, he's just there for support, and probably can't attack at all. He's probably not a Bodyguard or Honor Guard, since those tend to attach themselves to Support Casters or Leadership based classes.
Personally, I think he's currently a Servant, but we could easily designate him a Lieutenant. Normally, by this point our Mechanofortress would have provided us with some minions, and we would have spawned three Lieutenant's (One for each player on our team), and the type of Lieutenants we picked would have indicated what types of minions our Mechanofortress built. More Lieutenant's would need to be created either by capturing Keeps, or increasing our Renown.
However, since we never spawned our Lieutenant, we can designate Reginald Caddybear as if we'd gained enough Renown to designate (In fact, some people intentionally hold off on spawning their Lieutenant, instead picking up a Servant, Squire, or Follower in one of their lands, and designating them, though this cuts down the types of troops your mechanofortress can create, so few people do it).

Technically, we don't have any troops for him to lead yet, but he can still be useful in combat.
At least I think, this is mainly fuzzy memories from the brief period where I played Warlords/briefly skimming Genguide.

I don't have Virtues and Villainy, but I've gone up against an Evil Overlord before. Overusing Price of Failure makes your minions have a very low Loyalty stat. If you've been using Price of Failure, and a Lieutenant is forced to retreat, or fails to complete a task you've given them, they're loyalty drops like a rock. This is especially true if they fill a Lieutenant slot you vacated by using Price of Failure

Seeing as like 90% of all Inkquisitors come with the Fanatical (Divine) tag, he was probably just in a Crisis of Faith at the time. They're pretty vulnerable to those. Though, yeah, you shouldn't use it too often. Maybe twice a game: Once when you know enough about the team that you can make an intelligent choice of lieutenant, and again when it's late enough that Loyalty won't come into play.

Shadow bears still use the original code, as seen in this DrWutson exploit (If you don't have time to watch, a Light Shaman to cast Glory Blaze on the Shadow Bear Minion, which can't be done on shadows, as part of a Mimic, Cyclops, Bear Combo). So essentially, Shadow Bears are just dark-colored bears with a light weakness.

However, you can still make them a Green Bearet if you get a Shadow Knife. I wonder if SM already unknowingly picked one up?

I'm sorry, but there are so many things wrong with this I don't know where to start.
1) While not a magic user, the Green Bearet is great at long ranges. Their primary weapons group is firearms remember. Give him that automatic killgun and he'll provide all the ranged support we need!
2) We don't have a mechanofortress, which will really slow down our ability to get minions. One of the main factors you have to consider when choosing a Lieutenant is what units they let you produce, in this case, Green Bearets (Technically Caddybear would become a Green Bearet Commander, it's just easier to say Green Bearet when talking about a lieutenant, people generally understand what you mean). A Ringbearer dosn't unlock any new unit types, it just provides some benefits to the ones you have, and currently, we don't have any. They make decent Servants, but I wouldn't waste a Lieutenant slot on one. Also, Green Bearets are one of the few units types that don't need to be produced at a mechanofortress or keep. It's expensive, but we can get a squad of them anywhere we want by using their Bearborne Infantry ability. We're going up against a bigger force anyway, being able to get a couple elite ranked units in the right spot is going to be huge.
3) Ringbearers provide terrible long-ranged support, they're accuracy sucks since they have to get it on their finger. They have their uses, but you need to get them really close if you want to be sure.
4) We don't have either of those rings, and no way to get them. We already have the Automatic Killgun to turn him into a Green Bearet. I thought they patched Shadowbears, but even if they didn't ,considering the zone there is a very good chance a Shadowknife snuck it's way into our inventory.
5) Of all the bear types in the game, Shadowbears are perhaps the type least suited for Ringbearers. They dislike light and have a weak charisma stat.
6) Making him a Ringbearer means there is a high probability he would get back into Politics, after we worked so hard to rid him of that disgusting hobby.

That was pre Servants and Salutations, the current version of the RingBearer can cast through throwing rings, or with a good enough recipie, make other Magic rings, such as The Ring Of Holy Judgment. Also, the Rings Of Bride And Groom are easily obtained by having two of your players unlock the SS Courtship, where they are a pittance at the shop. With All female players though, BH will need to use Disguise: Male to purchase the Ring of the Groom though.

Also, A little trick, Naming your Green Bearet John Templeheat allows them to use Heavy Melee weapons, with a bonus.

Heh. Green bearets? You guys are still fixated on those little death machines?

If SM manages to convince MG to apply the Heavy Heaver enhancement to some power armor, and give it to the shadow bear, he can become a Grizzly Gunner, which in itself is underpowered and overall worthless, but he'll then be able to become a Flaming Firer, which comes with a brand new Rocket Revolver, not to mention amazing fire-based casting. All that, and he still won't have become a lieutenant yet, leaving him free to become a Green bearet commander as well. All those stacked bonuses, various abilities, and awesome weapons is very Tasty, just like GenCola!

He'll be able to carry two heavy weapons at once, not to mention three standards and two lights as well. With Grizzly Gunner, not only would his gunning be astounding, he'd also be able to use scraps and other "useless loot" to upgrade his weapons. Since he's got Caddy, it also lets him shoot two standard weapons at once.
Flaming firer, while it doesn't grant swipecasting, does grant him bullet-casting, which, as you may guess, is well worth it for the fact that he can cast melee range spells, and shoot the guy Who isn't drinking Gencola, hitting him with the spell.
Not to mention whatever else MG could put in his power armor. If she mounts guns on it, He'd be able to upgrade the armor itself!
This is proved to be quite powerful, if you take a look at this section of DrWurston's guide, where he covers most of the uses and exploits of power armor. unfortunately, he hasn't once enjoyed the sweet, sparkling GenCola!

Um... No offense, but how often do you play machinists, or really any tech-focused engineering class? Tech grafts are a huge source of Singularity, and you'll be playing it pretty close to the limit in most games. You can't afford any superfluous Singularity in the late game, and adding a graft to a lieutenant just isn't worth it.

Granted, for this game, it might not matter so much. Without a Mechanofortress, MG won't be building any of the high-Singularity minions any time soon (certainly not before somebody takes Castle Bane, at any rate).

Ooh, I'd almost forgotten about the Royal Bear Force. It's definitely one of the most underapreciated army types in the game, (That's easy to understand, since most Bears are big melee types, so people just make them Bearzerkers and don't look back (The Fact that Bearzerkers are the iconic Bear army type that shows up in all the ads probably has alot to do with that. Dog armies have something similar with Legio Canius) . Plus in a normal game it's easier to just slug it out. We'll need to fight smart.

And wait, I just realized. MG has already shown a penchant for building Rockets...and we've got a spy to spot targets for us...
Remember Siryessir's list of favorite ways to take out a superior force. Most people focus stop reading after the top ten, and most of the consists of tactics, rather than specific abilities, however it has a few.
Pull up the list, it's here, ignore all the ones where he quotes Sun Tzu for now (They're all good advice, but that's not what I'm talking about), and focus on #12, its a special maneuver that requires a Royal Bear Force and a tech based class with access to long ranged explosives. It can prove devastating to massed numbers of enemies, or foes in an entrenched position: The Artillery Bearagge

In other news, you guys should really check out some of IRC-propagated guides on GenGame that mostly get around the mass deletions that happen on MESSAGE REDACTED|ENJOY GENCOLA. I mean the melee guide by Hazsomuchsw0rd seems pretty well respected by most of the IRC-communities that play GenGame.

The only reason Hazsomuchsw0rd is even [Message redacted -- Enjoy Gencola, in the NEW chocolate mint flavor!] is because 2SMKNBRRLES is so hard to understand, Nowucme tends to rant uncontrollably, and the other three of the great five don't really do melee.
actually, 2SMKNBRRLES's guides are so hard to understand, even, that I'm not even sure he was talking about melee.
But I have checked out Hazsomuchsw0rd's guide. Yes, it's fairly good. It doesn't have any of the exploiting goodness of the five, so "followers" are generally less prepared, but it's got good tips and is a generally OK guide.
If only it wasn't just rewriting what the single-player tutorial says.
Oh, yes, I've gone through that tutorial. It's buggier than a dog's backside, only covers melee combat (which is horrible, since only 5% of the classes use it), and is so boring I came out drained, but I've played the tutorial.
Hazsomuchsw0rd had a good Idea when he converted it to a safer format.

Actually, Siryessir does melee, but he's mainly focused on Leadership classes and the tactical side of things. He's the closest thing to a "Melee specialist" that you get among the Five.

Man, I hate it when the Golem-lands are generated. some of the best units available from there, which is always good for my opponents. I can never get any for myself.

Prety sure he just has the common MOOK status. wich is good, because it dosent cut off any classes.

It may be worth using on him if we don't plan on getting many more biological servants/assistant/whatever. MG can make plenty of machines, but those don't work on machines (except the incredibly hard to make and generally not worth it Cybiotic units), so CB may be our only choice, really.

Getting Grizzled G.I. gives the bonus of being Grizzled while at a low level, while also increasing XP gain (theoretically). The bonuses at high level for getting Grizzled through leveling means you won't have the benefits for as many levels as you would with the items I mentioned at lower levels.
