I'm thinking for maximum effect I ought to do my biggest equipment upgrades now in the first match. Right now either a +1 armor enhancement or a Cognizance Crystal for an extra energy blast are at the top of my buy list.

Thoughts?


Also, any plans on tactics? "Krunk provides Arial Reconnaissance" or "We both go Sneak-Sneak-Surprise" would probably work well on this match, although I'm not sure what would work best against Oro & W.

Doesn't matter. I'd planned to take to the sky, as it seems their ranged abilities are a bit lacking...plus I can hit them with blindness from a safe range! Thoughts?

Blindness is always lots of fun (if it's the other guy). Slower movement, targeting trouble, flatfooted... :smallcool:

The only flaw is that it allows a Fort save to negate, and Wilgeist has an impressive Fortitude with Oro no push over either. You may want to go with KFG's if they're too cheap to buy fire pots, especially against the water orc.

Purchasing a Cognizance Crystal and a Powerstone of (ML2 Vigor + 2x Deflection Fields)

Total Spent: 1,100 gp.

Nothing else planed. May make a reactionary purchase.

Question on the Last LoS check:

Last I heard LoS used Ranged cover rules.

Cover

To determine whether your target has cover from your ranged attack, choose a corner of your square. If any line from this corner to any corner of the target’s square passes through a square or border that blocks line of effect or provides cover, or through a square occupied by a creature, the target has cover (+4 to AC).

Since using the F8/E9 corner allows an unobstructed line to all of Oro's (F7) corners and to one of Wildgeist's corners then Mad Al should have maintained full LoS to Oro with Wildgeist also seen through, but with basic concealment.

Assuming this is correct then even it seems possible to have still hit thank to the charge AC penalty even if Oro was under a Shield of Faith or like.

Please Confirm if Al still sees Oro And/Or Wildgeist, and if the shot is still a miss.
If Al does not see Oro please advise on how LoS is calculated for this match.

Mad Al:I did look at this one for a while, but the only logical interpretation I can come up with that matches the way we currently do LoS checks is that it has to be more than a corner, even if only just - in other words, in a case like this for the viewer, the corner has to be attached to open space, rather than what's effectively the inside corner of a wall. If all that was required was the corner itself, then a character in A1 could see a character in C3 even if there is a wall in B2, and as I understand it, that's not how we would currently rule. I'm open to a counter-argument, though, if you have one.

...Possibly. Certainly true on solid surfaces: but not sure how it works with fog.


Counter Argument:
While viewing through a corner may provide some concealment it doesn't come close to providing the 5+ft needed for total fog concealment. Therefore worst come to worse LoS would have remained established and Mad Al would only have been troubled by a 20% miss chance plus murky rather than a 50% murky.

It that's enough to avoid a concealment-miss then I'll play on as you've called it, otherwise I'd like a day to look for precedent on the matter.

Mad Al:Hrm. The problem with that approach is that I'm not sure we've got any precedent for dealing with distance increments less than 5ft. As far as I know, we've thus far treated fog squares as walls for the purposes of LoS unless the character is standing in them.

Precedent is pretty clear that two diagonal cloud squares do not provided total concealment.

Consider: Adjacent characters in say, R11 and S12 have always had a chance to see each other historically. Here's one example. (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showpost.php?p=7028502&postcount=9)

I'm still looking for precedent that confirms/denies the ability to see out a corner unobstructed. I've been playing on that assumption for the last 30 rounds, but this could be the first time the issue has ever actually come up. :smallfrown:

Couldn't find anything one way or the other about seeing out unobstructed. Found a few places that confirmed LoS, but nothing that involved miss chances for attacking out.

I thought that this came up in the waiting room, earlier, and it was decided that the atacker made the rolls. Futher more it was declared that the miss chance was set to the #1 being considered the 'hit' number.

As far as I know, we decided low was always a miss. Defender making miss chance rolls is RAW; there's no problem with the attacker doing it if they know where the opponent is, but if they don't, then they may not make the concealment rolls, as it could give them information they shouldn't have.
