I'm learning NWOD, and am confused about how combat works. All characters have a given speed, but how am I supposed to track it? Do I use a grid like DND?

You can, though speed is mostly used when someone is either trying to run away or catch up. During combat, just say if the PC can reach the enemy, or how long it will take to get to them.

You can, but why bother?

It's generally fairly moot unless there's a foot chase.

combat should not happen much in wod, because its not very fun to do. If it is done the way to make it interesting is inventive ideas. It is by no means a sensible tactical combat system. There are some nice things about it- the way mortals go down FAST works nicely is quite cool.

NWoD combat is, above all else, heavily cinematic in its pacing, especially as space goes. Treat it very roughly and loosely. I like it, because it's snappy combat that makes sense and isn't too hard to track.
