Gannji and the Teleport Scroll

I was wondering how Gannji was able to cast the Teleport spell from the scroll. According to RAW the way I read it, a character has to be able to cast the same spell type to be able to cast from a scroll.

He probably has ranks in use magic device.

To elaborate, the Use Magic Device skill lets you make a check to activate a scroll, wand, etc. as a caster of the appropriate class, with difficulty increasing with the required caster level.

Actually, the whole Use Magic Device skill comes in the first place from the class feature Thieves had in older editions to use scrolls (with a chance of failure).
