Don't be embarrassed! Just because someone else thought it was a good idea doesn't mean that what you've done isn't impressive.

You really did a good job with this, and you should feel like you've achieved something. I think this is really awesome.

Agreed. Plus, this is handier to look at than a very long thread- one look and you have a quick answer.

A well-conceived list. With a surprise or two, I'll admit. Like the disparity between the OOTS members, and comparisons between the lawyers, for example.

Thanks muchly

Have you actually recorded the strip numbers for each character? Then it would be nice to code up an interactive applet so that you could see graphs of the popularity of different characters as a function of strip number. So you'd be able to turn each characters graph in the plot on and off independently.

Like "Hmm Roy had a real spurt around this number.. oh, it is the heaven strips, makes sense" and things like that.

If you actually have all the numbers recorded, especially if it is in a consistent manner then it would make a project like that much easier.

Hate to say this, but Simpsons someone else did this.

If you want to make something useful with this, make a timeline showing when each character enters and exits the story. Separate them by story arcs. Shouldn't be that hard with Excel.

Or, you can add an additional list showing how many strips major characters appeared together in (for example, how many strips feature both Roy and Xykon). That might be a real pain to try to do, though.

Even if other people have already done it, it's still an accomplishment. If somebody independently translated all of Haley's aphasia strips I'd be equally impressed. It's a massive undertaking!

Yes, I know :)

I meant if somebody did it for a second time. Sure, it's been done, but it's no less impressive, awe-inspiring, and useful.

^ This.
Also, if you have the dedication to make something like this, you definitely deserve credit!

Well, no, because all the information in the other thread is summarised in its first post. There's no reason to read the rest of the thread at all if you just want the figures - it's only that long in the first place because there are several contributors discussing it on an ongoing basis.

Not to mention that the other thread has clear and documented guidelines as to what constitutes an "appearance", keeps track of printed bonus material, notes characters with interesting alterations in appearance, includes EVERY character with more than one appearance (and all named characters full stop) and has several people all checking each other's work. It's impressive that Emperor Flumph compiled his list alone, but as a go-to resource it's a long way off what's contained in the existing thread.
