View Full Version : How to make a Battletoad?

I was hoping the new campaign we're going to start would be a good place for me to try out this concept. It looks like it won't, but I can't contain myself any longer and want to start brainstorming. I want to make a Battletoad (http://c4.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images01/39/l_51eb4653f20c434b22ec10726ab6978f.jpg), but I don't know of any appropriate races or templates. A goliath would probably do a good job of looking like the brown toad if there were some kind of amphibian template I could apply to it. Something with horns (http://www.vizzed.com/vizzedboard/snes/screenshot/Battletoads%20in%20Battlemaniacs-2.png) would be a plus. Half-minotaur would be awkward since they're furry and hooved, but it might be workable depending on everything else.

To fit the Battletoad theme, this character would of course fight unarmed primarily, using only the occasional improved weapon. I'd also like to include some way to increase the size of unarmed weapons, to mimic how their hands and feet expand in the games (http://www.2flashgames.com/images_/f-BattleToads-TWZs-5610-th.jpg[/url). I'm thinking warshaper is the best option.

Any suggestions are welcome! I think this would be fun!

Savage Species has the Anthropomorphic Toad, though it's small, has penalty to strength and dexterity and has a speed of 5. You might be able to fix this with the proper templates.

For the unarmed part of it, I think Unarmed Swordsage would work well. You could try reflavoring maneuvers so that the extra damage comes from hand and feet expansion.

Both Neraph and Chaond are Slaad-like races, so they at least look toady, and the Chaond at least are also rather burly.

As for fighting unarmed and increasing natural weapon size, I'd suggest Psychic Warrior, or Psychic Warrior/monk with Talashatora.

How about having a Battletoad Familiar? You could load him up with buffs, Polymorph and Enlarge him, then give him a club with Greater Mighty Wallop.

Boggard

Pathfinder SRD (http://www.pathfindersrd.com/bestiary/monster-listings/humanoids/boggard)

Unfortunately, it doesn't have a "Boggards as PCs" section.

Ooh, I do like the boggard for its fluff. It's too bad there's no picture.

I'm thinking expansion-themed Tashalatora (Secrets of Sarlona?) Psychic Warrior might be a good fit. Though maybe it could use some Kensai with sizing on unarmed strike... or a necklace of natural attacks with the sizing property on it that activates on crits and coup de graces.

Bullywug seems a natural fit to me - I think the only place it appeared in 3E was in Monsters of Faerun? (3.0)

For the horns, you could always grab the Practiced Binder feat and bind Amon.

Wow, looking at the second picture,
Bullywug + Leather Armor = Ninja Turtle

Just my observation.

Heh, I might pitch that to my friends for the campaign after this one. We could have a battletoad, a ninja turtle, and a team of other anthromorphic amphibians from various cartoons.

Play Exalted.
Make a Toad-totem Lunar with Deadly Beastman Transformation and Hybrid Body Rearangement.
Stunt your attacks to make use of rediculous shapeshifting.
. . .
Profit!

As a Game Stop employee, I want to hurt you for making this topic. So hard. (Not really. :P)

Anyway, I'm going to second either the Bullywug, Anthro-Toad from Savage Species and/or Slaad for your choice.

I feel you should have to make a class feature that means whenever you make an attack while adjacent to an ally, you have a percentage chance of hitting your ally instead.

Damn you Battletoads.
