I've just browsed through Races of Stone, and the Gnomish Swiftrazor caught my eye. The question is this: do gnomes of any sort automatically have proficiency with these weapons (or, for that matter, others labeled as being gnomish)? If anyone could provide a source for the answer, I would be deeply appreciative.

Thankee for the help guys!

Um, I think Complete Warrior has a clause in it that allows a creature to swap out its natural racial proficiences for other weapons that share their race name. So a Dwarf could trade out his Urgrosh proficiences for that which a Dwarven Longaxe (badass weapon btw).

I'll have to look over it a bit more.

Thanks much, I'll take a look there.

Don't suppose anyone has a page number on that?

There is the Improved Weapon Familiarity feat (RoS), which allows racial weapons to be treated as martial, rather than exotic.

Other than that, the Master of Masks (CS) gets the Gladiator mask, that grants proficiency with all exotic weapons...
