I didn't notice an escalation, but I can be wrong, I don't surf the whole forum.
Anyway, it should be almost normal... the bigger the site and the traffic, the higher the chance of increasing spam posts.

Sheriff of Moddingham: The war against spam continues endlessly. We do our best to make it invisible to posters, but inevitably there may be some lag between spam and response to spam. Efforts are always ongoing to keep spammers out and deal with spam when it sneaks through. I'm not sure what more could be said on the issue that would be of use to anyone.
