Or, the Plot of Art

OOTS skillfully interweaves art and plot.

763 (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0763.html) is a fine example. We have some clever monolog; but the most important scene, from a storytelling perspective, has no dialog at all: in the second to last frame, Elan flees.

For it is that frame that carries the story. Tarquin has spoken his piece, all well and good, but he does not move the story forward. It takes Elan, the protagonist to do that.

Elan flees! But where is he going? Is he fleeing in despair, his spirit utterly crushed? Is he fleeing in horror, in a random direction? Or is he running to seek guidance from Haley? Or could he be running for help from Vaarsuvius, who he may recall has the intellectual firepower to defeat Tarquin in a battle of wits, as he once did Nale? (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0397.html) Could he actually have a cunning plan?

We don't know, and we want to find out; we want to hear what happens next. This is the end result of artful plotting, and skillful art that conveys the plot.

Scenes such as the penultimate one of 763 do not occur in every episode, but if you look, you will find more artful plotting and plotful arting. Enjoy!

I actually prefer the last panel of this one. Elan runs out and Tarquin is being all non-chalant and cool drinking his wine.:smallcool:

Definitely horror. Look at his face.

General Tarquin is a badass.
