I have applied the bone template (BOVD pg 184) to the SRD hellhound

have I done this correctly?

*some things that I know are "wrong"
I changed the breath weapon to acid
I gave it max hit points due to story reasons
I do not know how to calcuate the monster's saves (because it's a monster)
the environment and orginzation don't matter
and ....
yea that should be it.

thanks in advance

Its saves are like those of any other class - the base save would be +1 for a poor save and +4 for a good save at its HD.

Also, if you gave it acid breath, there's no reason for it to have a fire bite.

its a demon ^_^

a greater demon in fact, it's been drained to the point (and form) of a hellhound

but I may change it's bite to acid damage too.

aside from that discrepency and the saves, did I do this correctly?

The strange thing here is that D&D demons don't usually get along with fire as well as devils do, apart from Palrethees and Balors.

Yeah, pretty much. Here's a tip on saves: At least up to 20 HD, you can easily refer to class save progressions to see how your monster's base saves will look.

Aberration, Undead: Wizard (Will)
Giant, Plant, Vermin, Earth and Water Elementals: Fighter (Fort)
Fire and Air elementals: Rogue (Reflex)
Animal, Magical Beast: Ranger (Fort, Reflex; The chart in the Monster Manual says that Animals sometimes have good Will progression, but I don't remember seeing anything that does.)
Fey, Monstrous Humanoids: Bard (Reflex, Will)
Construct, Ooze: Commoner (No good saves)
Dragon, Outsider: Monk (All good saves)
Humanoid: Varies; usually, humanoids with RHD only get one good save. Bugbears get good Reflex, for example, while Gnolls get good fortitude.

well, I meant more like Daemon, just a generic evil outsider :smalltongue:

as far as the HD, thanks a bunch!

Fun fact: Daemon is used in D&D for yugoloths, a specific race of outsiders, like Demons or Devils. The more you know!

oops :smalltongue:

didn't know that either

... so is "fiend' the generic term for evil outsiders in DND?

Yes, it is. Fiend covers demons, yugoloths, devils, and even rakshasas. Not sure of anything else it would include, though. Hell hounds too?

The easy way to do saves without looking anything up is Good = level/2 +2, Bad = level/3 (round down on both of these, as usual). Incidentally, Dire animals are the ones with the good will saves

In case you don't want to do math, any class other than Monk or Commoner (in core at least) gives examples of both good and bad saves.

And "fiend" is a generic term for an evil outsider. "Nefarian" is also valid, but nowhere near as frequently used, for any denizen of the lower planes.

Slaadi, Djinn, Salamanders, Barghests, etc. I'm reasonably sure that Fiend=Evil Outsider. Fiendish for instance means any animal-like creature that lives on an evil-plane.
