The question is basically in the title: How can non-healer classes (and non-casters) gain some for of healing without using scrolls or UMD?

There are several ways for casters to add access to the Healing domain, which solves the problem for them.

Anyone who can Turn Undead can take a few feats to produce area of effect healing.

Anyone can take the Healing Devotion feat to give themselves or another person Fast Healing for a while, but it's usable only 1/day unless you can Turn Undead.

Brilliant Gameologists has a handbook for this. A Player's Guide to (3.5) Healing (And, why you don't need a cleric to heal) (http://brilliantgameologists.com/boards/index.php?topic=1121.0)

However, there website is down right now :smallfrown:

Healing Belt is a great option. A wand of lessor vigor is the cheapest way to heal. And there are many many ways to heal in a game without a cleric once you get a bit creative.

Blessed Bandage for autosucceeding to stabilize an ally is pretty nifty.

While we're on the topic, is there any good way for a non-cleric to get access to healing type spells that deal with more than just hit points? I.e. restoration, regenerate, heal, and the like.

Druids get most of the Clerical status restorers. Archivists (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/ex/20051007a&page=3) can learn and cast all divine spells.

Complete Divine has spontaneous divine casters- Favored Soul, Shugenja and Spirit Shaman- that can learn status removers.

I mean more when dealing with a current party where one needs to pick up a spell or two on a caster that doesn't normally get them (druid in this case - why the heck don't they get restoration? And why is regenerate a 9?)
