Build your own template, what would be balanced

I am considering to give my players the option to build their own template.

What would you consider balanced? I am looking for something that i rather feel as slightly underpowered than slightly overpowered.

Examples:
LA +1, +4 to any stat and +2 to any other stat

Notice that this one gives less than catfolk for example, but keep in mind that they are templates, not races, so for example the first one combined with human would also give you a feat and extra skill points.

Also, where would Large Size fit in this picture, and powerfull build:

LA +1, Powerfull Build, +2, +2, -2
LA +1, Large

Then there is off course Darkvision, Lowlight Vision, Movement, ....

But i was wondering what you would consider balanced.

Savage Species has guidelines on how LA would be calculated for races. Reverse them, and you get "build-your-template".

That is assuming their guidelines are indeed balanced, but i will check those out thank you!

They're not very balanced- but they're a place to start.

Typically (because WoTC tends to overrate melee) most official templates with a high LA, could be reduced a bit in LA and still not be overpowered.
