Is the Air Breathing spell a viable defense when expecting to fight an Aboleth?

I would rule that, yes it would. But I'm not completely sure.

I wouldn't bother with it. By the wording of Mucus Cloud, it only functions when the Aboleth is underwater - and if it's underwater, then you have a place to stand/swim while meleeing it even if you fail the save...and if you're not meleeing it, you should never be exposed to the cloud to begin with.

But yeah, by RAW, Air Breathing will negate the effects of Mucus Cloud.
