So, here's an interesting question. How do you handle music in your games in regards to culture? Do certain races favor certain instruments? Are all elves trained pianists? Do dwarves never leave home without their trusty bagpipes? Do halflings prance about playing flutes or do they play jazz on brass horns? Do kobolds play bongos or do they sing the blues? Are orcs heavy metal or do they beat out tribal rhythms on massive hide drums?

What are some of your favorite musical traditions in your fantasy world? Do you play music while you game? Do you give enemies theme songs?

I like using music as an emotional metronome when writing things, and I will allude to music in description, describing wild savage beats of orcish marriage drums, or the lonely pipes of a wood elf in love. But I never use music as sound track. It's distracting and difficult to keep track of. Sure, if it's done right, I guess it could add something to the game ,but I don't think it is really needed.

My brother is addicted to keeping a soundtrack running. He qued up a casino's website as I went into the casino the other night in-game, and just let the annoying website soundtrack repeat over and over.He also has a soundtrack for the big bad and will sometimes play audio clips of wilderness noises when we visit different places.

Personally, though, I don't go quite that far. I prefer to allude to music, instead.
