View Full Version : Is there a float/hover spell?

I'm looking around for a spell or effect that makes the caster or target hover just a few inches or a foot off the ground, letting them avoid caltrops/grease but not really giving them flight (and not necessarily having feather fall as part of it). I coulda sworn I'd seen something like this, somewhere, but can't find it now.

This (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/spells/levitate.htm) sorta does that. Only problem is you need some way to move horizontally.

Elocator gets it as a class ability. Was that what you were tinking of?

...what's an Elocator? Not sure I've seen them before, where they from?

Really, the main thing I'm after is the rules text of it to copy steal look at.

Ack, D&D Wiki! Unclean! Unclean!

Even if it's accurate, use the d20SRD instead (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/psionic/prestigeClasses/elocater.htm)

What's wrong with the D&D Wiki?:smallconfused:

I mean yeah I'd stay away from their homebrew in most cases but otherwise?

It's just not a reputable source. Even faced with a page that was copied word-for-word from somewhere else, I'd still be going over it with a fine-toothed comb to make sure someone didn't change something to fit their own homebrew along the way.

It's like finding a physics dissertation scrawled in a bathroom stall. No matter how accurate it might be, you're still going to go through a more rigorous fact-checking process with it than one published normally before relying on it. If they're both one click away, I'll go with the source I can trust.

Floating Disk could also work, with DM permission.

edit double post IGNORE ME!!

PS though, logically I see no reason why the caster couldn't ride it. Even though RAW basically says they can't.

Let's try a more reputable source, shall we? Elocater at d20srd.com (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/psionic/prestigeClasses/elocater.htm)

Is there a reason Air Walk (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/spells/airWalk.htm) won't work?

Maybe I'm oddly lucky, but I haven't ever noticed a difference between the two. And use the D&D wiki because it's actually convenient. as opposed to the giant pile of information that the hypertext SRD is.

There's also the Skate (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/psionic/powers/skate.htm) power. Still vulnerable to terrain and obstacles though.

If I google Elocater, the d20srd is the first result, and takes me right to the page. I honestly can't see how that isn't convenient. :smallconfused:

Greater Floating Disk can be ridden by the caster - Spell Compendium

Yes but once already on the site I don't want to have to return to google for every little thing. If you just try to move through the site itself nearly everything is just a huge pile of stuff.

Use Bookmarks.

EDIT: At Op: Depending on your weight, the ???'s Floating Disk spell is doable.

Um... No?
The site is well organized, in my opinion. (http://www.d20srd.org/) It even has a built in search function...:smallconfused:

It seems changed from the massive infodump it formerly was. I was going to challenge you to search through the monster section and not get a headache but it is no longer headache inducing...

I dislike the Infodump that is the hypertext one, though.

At least, when compared to this (http://www.systemreferencedocuments.org/resources/systems/pennpaper/dnd35/soveliorsage/home.html)one, the hypertext one is just fugly.

That one is fine too... anything but D&D wiki.

The Pathfinder Oracle with the Heavens mystery can grab the power to float a few inches off the ground, though it evolves to flight at later levels.

There are horseshoes to do it for your mount. The fact that they require levitate to craft suggests that there isn't a core spell to do it. A greater tenser's floating disk (spell compendium) could work.

Levitate + Immovable Rod for leverage.

Can't think of a spell of the top of my head. But the Scout gets Flawless Stride at level 6. You can also get Ethereal movement via the Phase Cloak soulmeld bound to your Shoulder Chakra slot (2 feats), or Incorporeal movement with the Haures vestige (Binder 10). There's also the Combat Acrobat feat (PHBII) which allows you to ignore difficult terrain and being knocked prone with Skill checks.
