Class Abilities

I'll only be doing things that aren't already added into my scores, or don't change very often.
Dragon

Breath Weapon (Su)
A gold dragon has two types of breath weapon, a cone of fire and a cone of weakening gas. Creatures within a cone of weakening gas must succeed on a Fortitude save or take 1 point of Strength damage per age category of the dragon.

Alternate Form (Su)
A gold dragon can assume any animal or humanoid form of Medium size or smaller as a standard action three times per day. The dragon can remain in its animal or humanoid form until it chooses to assume a new one or return to its natural form.

Water Breathing (Ex)
A gold dragon can breathe underwater indefinitely and can freely use its breath weapon, spells, and other abilities while submerged (the cone of fire becomes a cone of superheated steam underwater).

Archmage

Arcane Reach (Su)
The archmage can use spells with a range of touch on a target up to 30 feet away. The archmage must make a ranged touch attack. Arcane reach can be selected a second time as a special ability, in which case the range increases to 60 feet. This ability costs one 7th-level spell slot.

Mastery of Counterspelling
When the archmage counterspells a spell, it is turned back upon the caster as if it were fully affected by a spell turning spell. If the spell cannot be affected by spell turning, then it is merely counterspelled. This ability costs one 7th-level spell slot.

Mastery of Shaping
The archmage can alter area and effect spells that use one of the following shapes: burst, cone, cylinder, emanation, or spread. The alteration consists of creating spaces within the spell’s area or effect that are not subject to the spell. The minimum dimension for these spaces is a 5-foot cube. Furthermore, any shapeable spells have a minimum dimension of 5 feet instead of 10 feet. This ability costs one 6th-level spell slot.

Spell-Like Ability
An archmage who selects this type of high arcana can use one of her arcane spell slots (other than a slot expended to learn this or any other type of high arcana) to permanently prepare one of her arcane spells as a spell-like ability that can be used twice per day. The archmage does not use any components when casting the spell, although a spell that costs XP to cast still does so and a spell with a costly material component instead costs her 10 times that amount in XP. This ability costs one 5th-level spell slot.
SLA: Time Stop, 2/day

Loremaster

Secret: Applicable Knowledge
Secret: Newfound Arcane
Secret: Expanded Newfound Arcana
Lore
At 2nd level, a loremaster gains the ability to know legends or information regarding various topics, just as a bard can with bardic knowledge. The loremaster adds her level and her Intelligence modifier to the lore check, which functions otherwise exactly like a bardic knowledge check.

Flufferness!

Description

Zarch's dragon form is a majestic, powerful dragon. Though not -by far- the largest dragon, Zarch radiates power. His scales are carved and runed, scars which will last the ages, from Zarch's old and complicated rituals and experimentations. A loose webbing of leather covers his sleek body, holding many packs and bags filled with arcane tidbits. His eyes are unlike those of most gold dragons- they are a deep, deep electric blue and shine slightly in the dark. They foretell of a terrible intelligence, and fearsome, ruthless, mind. His whiskers are long, and a deeper gold than the rest of his scales. His wings are ornately groomed, as is the rest of his body. The impression that one gets of him is of a latent emperor... or perhaps a god...

Personality

Zarch is best described as ruthless, yet compassionate. Willing to do anything, up to and including sacrificing sentients to achieve more power, and fulfill his goals, he does his best to avoid harm where he can. He is neither stupid, nor rash, nor arrogant. He exudes a calm confidence that flows into his allies and detracts from his enemies. Not much one for humor, he is nevertheless a fair and compassionate person, and enjoys peace and relaxation time as much as the next sentient. He doesn't enjoy torture or harming other beings, though he will if he must. He doesn't really want much to do with those on either extreme, believing them all to be equally stupid and harmful.

A Story

Amanda stared at the large beast in the meadow. Every day during the summer, when she had finished her chores, she came to this meadow, a few miles in the forest from her house, and every day it was the exact same. Every day, except today, that is.

The large creature was golden and shiny in the light. It basked in the sunlight, a look of contentment on its face, some sort of fans outstreached on the meadow. Amanda hid behind the tree, positive it couldn't see her behind it. She was unafraid of the thing, because she didn't have the experience her parents did, of monsters in the night. This, golden, shiny, fluffy thing couldn't possibly be harmful. It reminded her of her stuffed animal and the statue in her parents' smile shrine.

She approached the thing cautiously, having the natural human response to beings of such power. As she approached, it snorted and shifted. Amanda found herself flat on the ground, having immediately dropped at the movement of the thing. She slowly got back up and tiptoed over to the thing's muzzle. It's breath was hot and wet, coming out slowly from its nostrils. She quietly moved around its head to get a better look at it's wings. As she moved past, a huge blue eye opened up and a smile appeared on the draconic mouth.

Amanda clambered up unto the wings of the dragon, sometimes slipping on the leathery skin. She clambered up onto the back of the great beast, and sat down. For a few minutes, the girl lay in the sun on the dragon's back, when she heard a smooth, baritone voice interrupt her revery. "Hello, little one. What are you doing up there?" She slowly turned around and the Dragon was looking back at her, twisting its long, serpentine neck up to see her.

She stammered for a moment. "Ly-ly-lying down."

The dragon smiled. "Mhm. And who gave you permission to lay down on my back?" The girl just looked on at him in fear. "Do not worry. It's fine. I don't mind at all. I can barely feel you up there." With his words, the girl relaxed, a more playful look appearing on her face. "And, anyway, what are you doing in the meadow?"

The girl shrugged. "I come here all the time to play. It's my faaaaavorite place in the whole world!" she said as she threw her hands up to the sky, waving them about.

The dragon smiled at the small human's antics. "Do you want to know about my favorite place in the whole world?"

The girl nodded. "Uh-huh."

"Well, my favorite place is my home. It lays far away to the east, in a cavern on a cliffside, overlooking a huge, bustling city. When I was just an dragonling, my mother took me to the city's mages guild. She wanted me to study magic with them. Every day, I would fly down from the cave to the guild, and every night, I would fly back up. I never harnessed my natural power, but instead become a master of the wizardry arts. My parents died when I was little, going off to fight in wars that they should never have been involved in..."

I see, so this is some sort of OOC thread then.

Okay guys, I'll start then: My character (Dargamenon) is basically a young adult gold dragon, paladin of bahamut. He often is seen polymorphed as a human soldier.

Basically, he's looking to make a small fortune to make his own lair... In other words, he's looking for a job as an adventurer, or something like that...

Zarch sat in his cave, brooding. To gain the power needed to get to where he was, he had sold off many of his possessions, including some of his favorite magic items. He sighed and turned around to look at his rather meager hoard. Never much one for gold and silver, he preferred scolls, potions, wondrous items, even psionic goods if he could get his hands on them.

However, the hoard was looking rather empty. It was merely an illusion, but it reflected what Zarch actually had. He racked his brains, thinking if he had heard of any good places to find(read: take) magic items- a lost astral caravan, or mysterious lich hoard or somesuch.

This part of the game is freeform. I just want you to all team up and hear about a hoard of treasure in the kingdom of Gajuk

Belthasar
2010-12-15, 08:43 PM
Guys, what do you think about the following idea:

Zarch (the leader of the guild) heard a rumour about a huge treasure in the kingdom of Gajuk, but it's heavily protected by foul, powerful creatures.

He decided to use his power (and followers) to spread the detailed rumour about the risks and rewards. The risks are so high that only the most epic adventurers could be confident in their own abilities to accept the challenge, so, you know... The advice attracted some dragons.

Also, other dragons heard the rumour from distant lands. They arrived at Zarch's location to confirm the rumour about a powerful dragon recruiting people to hunt for an epic treasure.

It's a matter of time before Zarch discovers (in surprise) that the only volunteers are also dragons...

Another idea: Dargamenon could be a younger, distant relative of Zarch.

I'll prepare spells properly when the game proper starts.
Actions:

Non-serious: I cast Wish to age myself 1400 years over the course of a one day period.
Actual: I am in my hoard room, hidden beneath the surface of a demiplane that is the headquarters of a massive guild focused in commerce and magic. The hoard is valued at around 1.2 million gold, but it is not enough. I brood, and consider where more might be found...

Another idea: Dargamenon could be a younger, distant relative of Zarch.

I'm cool with both of those ideas, but this one... I could have fun with.

IC: Zarch's eyes sprang open in delightedness. "Ah, yes... Gajuk." He spent the next two days gathering up everything he actually owned, preparing teleport spells, and the like. His first action was to destroy what was left of his cave. At this point, there would be no turning back.

The next step was more complicated. He spent each day talking to different followers of his- kobolds, half-dragons, spellscales, a few humans, and one rather surly elf. He told them to spread the word, that he was looking for powerful allies in a quest for treasure and magic. He spent a small fortune and many hours doing this.

Finally he came to his last step. He knew of a distant cousin, a relative of his mother's cousin, Dargamemnon, or some such silliness. He spent a few days looking for the young dragon, and finally cornered him.

(Balthasar, you set this up.)

Belthasar
2010-12-15, 10:16 PM
The young gold dragon Dargamenon (in human form) walked through the secret hallway, following the two half-dragons who were leading him to the chambers of his future employer.

He needed a job, and some action. He was a holy soldier of Bahamut, but even paladins need to earn something for living.

...And, for a dragon, something for living mean at least 50.000 gold pieces. In cash.

As he entered the chamber, a gargantuan golden dragon appeared before him. It was a surprise indeed, but what it's more surprising is that he remembered his smell. Unfortunately, he didn't remember well.

Politely, he reverted to his original form, as a show of respect between gold dragons, followed by a short bow.

Then he gasped as he was suddenly remembering a name:

"...Zarch?" he said dubitous.

I don't know if Zarch is in his true form, but if not, you can asume I cast True Seeing before entering.

Halna LeGavilk
2010-12-17, 03:15 PM
Zarch smiled. "Dargamenon. You can call me by my full name. Zzarchialkarntis. We are among dragons after all." Zarch smiled at the young dragon. He dismissed the two soldiers with a flick of the claw, "It's been quite a while. I hear you've become a paladin of Bahamut. I don't disapprove." He said, an odd note of both sarcasm and approval in his voice.

Not that he particularly approved either. Zarch wasn't a fan of holy warriors, but they sometimes had useful powers. Zarch himself had been studying how divinity worked lately, subscribing to a sort of magic worship.

Belthasar
2010-12-17, 10:51 PM
"Neither I do, Zzarchialkarntis," replies Dargamenon. "It was a matter of time before I answered the Platinum Dragon's call, since I, as a sorcerer, was only seeking revenge... It's a long story, Zzarchialkarntis."

He paused to admire the magnificent lair. "What about you? You have your own lair, with plenty of loyal followers. I must say it's impressive..."

Halna LeGavilk
2010-12-17, 11:34 PM
Zarch shrugged. "It's temporary. Meant more to impress than anything else. I've been rather... pragmatic in my acquisition of resources for which to further myself. Which brings me to my next point." Zarch pulled himself up to his full height, sitting on his haunches. "I am low in funds, and more importantly, magic items from which to acquire more funds. I have yet to set-up anything too formal with my followers, though I have been talking to a merchant-prince from a magic demi-plane.

I have an idea of where to go to acquire more funds, but the problem is is that I am not sure enough of my own strength in dealing with the defenses of the treasure. That's where you come in. I've heard that you have been doing some... mercenary work. I wish to hire you, to give you a part of the funds. What do you think?"

Voice of Reason
2010-12-18, 04:39 AM
Acophisinarian considers the offer carefully. At first, she had felt somewhat insulted by being asked for help in tomb-raiding and the like. After all, she is a dragon of superb stature, and such things are (usually) beneath her. However, rumor had it that the man with a plan was, in fact, a dragon like herself; it did explain why the human messenger had felt justified in approaching her. The possibility was an intriguing one. If another dragon, one of her peers, had found something so well-guarded that he or she felt necessary to call on the aid of others, then it deserved consideration. After all, her kind rarely bother to form alliances, and never share wealth unless absolutely necessary.

All of which meant, of course, that dealing with other dragons can be both a great privilege, and a great hassle. It also meant the job was dangerous, but that little snag did not weigh heavily in Acophisinarian's considerations. She lacks anything that can be considered a proper hoard, but she'd outgrown her youthful desire for fast, fabulous wealth long ago. At least, so she likes to think. Gold and other precious objects would have gotten in the way of her training, but her heart does ache deep down for something beautiful of her own, and this was a very rare opportunity indeed (the lesser races, who live shorter life spans, might call it "once in a lifetime opportunity"). Perhaps it wouldn't hurt to give in to her lust for wealth just this once. Besides, she'd need a passable horde if she was ever to attract a mate, something she'd been seriously considering for a few years now.

It wouldn't hurt, much, to at least lend this entrepreneur my ear. I'll hear what he has to propose, and commit myself only if the deal is particularly lucrative.

Acophisinarian makes the appropriate arrangements, takes those things that will be required, and sets out for the supposed rendezvous point. As she gets closer, she considers adopting a less fearful visage. Most humanoids spook easily in the presence of a dragon. Ultimately, she decides that it's just too much work when, ultimately, the fact that she is a dragon will only make her a more valuable asset; if she happens to unsettle a few people on her way in, well, free advertising is good advertising. As soon as she lands, she makes the appropriate inquiries, waiting (somewhat impatiently) to be recognized.

A little abrupt, perhaps, for writing in the present tense, but I think it will suffice for now. Feel free to have one of Zarch's associates inform him about Acophisinarian's presence, and wave her in when it's convenient. I wouldn't want to barge in on a private conversation unannounced.

Rumors fly as the news of the offer spreads. Axh'theirn stirs when it is heard that multiple dragons have been seen gathering. Calling his student, the bronze dragon Barthanulus into his underground throne room, the librarian took action.

"Ah, you have finally come. I have a task for you."
"Yes, master?"
"It is time to see the full measure of your abilities. You will manage this company for me while I am gone. You may take half of the profit which I would otherwise receive, which should give you 5%. In addition, should you be successful, I will grant you 100,000 gold so that you may start your own company."
"Very well. It shall be done."

With the preparations necessary to keep the company afloat made, Axh'theirn took on the form of a human (using ShapeChange), and teleported to the reputed meeting place of the dragons (using Gate). If the rumors were true, then the 100,000 gold he had promised would be trivial...

Zarch receives the other two visitors, surprised at the fact that they are dragons, but not showing any of it. "Gentlemen, and lady. I presume you all have some inkling of why you're here?" He knew Dargamenon, and had had dealings with Axh'theirn in the past. But the other was new. She was female and this intrigued him. He hadn't really had dealings with many females in the near past...

Acophisinarian interrupts her inspection of the room to nod politely to Zarch in response to his query. She thinks to herself:

Abrupt and to the point. I suppose I should have expected that from a Gold, but at least he was quick to be welcoming.

She is also quick to notice the composition of the others gathered in the room: two Golds, one Prismatic, all three male, making her the only female; she sticks out like a sore wing-joint. She addresses Zarch:

Rumor has it you're proposing a rather lucrative venture into some unknown locale, and are in need of powerful assistance. Rumor had it that a dragon was behind the request, but you know humanoids: always prone to vastly over-exaggerate before the facts are in. So, I came to see for myself, and to my surprise, I find not one, but three fellow dragons. It's oddly refreshing to hear under-exaggerated news for a change, but I'm afraid that my informant was a little sketchy on the details. I decided to overlook it, he was properly humble, after all, but I'm afraid that your names were unknown to him, so I haven't the pleasure of addressing any of you by name.

She gestures to herself with her tail.

I am Acophisinarian. As fellow dragons, you needn't bother yourselves with my many titles and honorifics.

Just going to head this one off at the pass: I like to display my characters' thought in first-person from time to time to help flesh out the character. I will put these comments in colored italics, but I will also try, as often as possible, to indicate that she is thinking, and not speaking.

Edit: My reading comprehension was terrible at time of first post; somehow I got it into my head that Axh'theirn was the student and Psuedolich was playing "the bronze dragon Barthanulus." I have fixed the above post to reflect the truth

Dargamenon was about to answer to Zarch's offer, but the sudden appearence of one dragon after other left him surprised.

He just let most of them introduce themselves, and then he thought it was Bahamut himself who allowed those dragons to be together for some reason.

"Greetings to all," he says. "I am Dargamenon, paladin of Bahamut."

Then he directs to Zarch. "Zzarchialkarntis, your offer looks good. There's no better thing than cooperation to get our starting funds."

Your message spread far, but I believe your warning of peril has managed to keep most of the money-grubbing prospectors at bay, which is probably for the best.

Acophisinarian takes a sweeping look around the chamber again, giving the impression that she is seeking something out. Apparently unable to find it, she turns to Zarch.

Acophisinarian takes note of the two late arrivals, and allows them to bicker amongst themselves to their hearts content. She is unable to keep a look of disdain from briefly crossing her face at the appearance of "Marpaziena's" tentacle; it disturbs her, and she struggles to hide her mild disgust by carefully coaxing every muscle of her body back into place. The deformed psuedodragon, of course, is even worse, but that clearly goes without saying. Acophisinarian lies down, trying to get comfortable (or at least, look comfortable) and stifles a sigh.

I would appreciate some strong wine right now. One of the better customs I admire about the hunanoids is their desire to seal their deals with a toast.

That, she thinks, and I'm going to need the spirits to get through this. A pseudodragon, why did it have to be a pseudodragon, let alone as badly-formed as this one. He'll probably never shut up. I'll never got a moment's peace. Good grief, are they still talking? Fate or not, I liked the prospects for this trip much better before those two misfits showed up. Still, perhaps I should be grateful for Marpaziena; at least now the males outnumber us only four to two instead of three to one.

I leave you two alone for a couple of hours, and already there's another page of posts! Welcome to the new players, it's good to have you. As you can see, my sentiments don't exactly mirror my character's. :smallwink:

To Rache's lament, the bottles and glasses were designed for much larger creatures. But that's okay because he's way more than strong enough to throw the people the bottles were designed for. The bottles themselves were easy.

Rache snatches a bottle of beer. Spending a few seconds how to drink from it, he just settles on doing what he does best. Taking out his tiny kukris, he cuts the neck of the bottle clean off in one quick slice, making the delicious beverage inside more accessable to the pseudodragon.
