PF Paladins and their smite

Ok first off I just have to say God bless to pathfinder and their adjusted classes. I was reading up on the paladin and their smite is so much freaking better than the 3.5 smite but now I have a question about it. It says it is a swift action to declare a smite then it counts for all attacks made by the paladin until the foe is dead or the paladin rests. I assume this means I can finally play my ranged paladin and smite from a distance? also if that is true can my soon to be sorcadin smite with his scorching rays? If not that is fine I will still love and use this new smite but please some help clarifying this for me please.

Yes, I can indeed confirm smite works on ranged attacks. Pathfinder Paladins finally feel like the destroyers of evil they were meant to be. Just be sure to read the SRD (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/core-classes/paladin) for the errata on the double level smite damage on certain targets.
