I'm wanting to stick Track on my cohort, but since he has minimal levels I'm trying to decide between dipping ranger and something else.

Options?

take it as normal feat?
or anything else what gives extra feats to compensate it

Ah my bad, I was using Crystalkeeps feat sheet and it had track listed as Ranger 1 prereq.

Thanks!

Ranger prereq? Are you sure you're reading that list correctly?
Base classes don't have prereqs to start or hit certain levels (aside from alignment restrictions).

he, that doesnt mean prereq, it just means that this class gets it for free at that level

if it really has a prereq its listed in the middle part

There's a couple of ways to get it on a character.

Unearthed Arcana gives us two ways.

5th level wolf totem barbarian (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/variant/classes/variantCharacterClasses.htm#wolfTotemClassFeatures ) gets it as a bonus feat (and 2nd level gets pre-requisite-less Improved Trip). Only really useful if you want a barbarian with trip in its repertoire.

This druid variant (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/variant/classes/variantCharacterClasses.htm#druid)gives Track as a bonus feat but loses wildshape and armor proficiencies. Has the advantage of only requiring one level like Ranger, gives casting stat to Armor Class, gives an animal companion that can be boosted with PrCs or natural bond, and being a full-caster if the cohort stays in the class. Also, if wild shape is a potential issue, has the benefit of dealing with that concern.
