it's probably been discussed before, but I wouldn't know where to find it if it has...

Does anyone know/have any idea what tune Elan's little songs are to? His "motivational" songs where he repeats the word 4 times and then has the little sentence?

Not sure. There isn't really a way to find out. Rich only told us the tune Buddy Roy was sung to.

It may be a bit like Cacophonix the Bard from the Asterix comics -- there's no tune, just pain for the listeners!

For some reason, I always think it's daisy bell.

I hear it as C - E - G (rest) A-G-A-G-A - G

I seem to hear it as, "Yo-ho, yo-ho, a pirate's life for me!" :smallconfused:

For a moment, when I saw this thread I just imagined Elan singing as The Music Meister of Batman the Brave and the Bold.

I always hear it as Row, Row, Row Your Boat, even though the number of words isn't usually right.

Row, row, row your boat

Bluff, bluff, bluff the stupid ogre!

Same here, and you're right the last bit usually rolls off feeling clunky and rushed.

i support this theory. it works well for the beginning of many of his songs. bluff, bluff, bluff, shoot, shoot, shoot, deny, deny, deny, etc.

I always read it as a two-line song, with the first repeated word rising in pitch each repeat, so as to produce an inspiring effect. The second line is in some random tune, not really clear on that one.

I always thought it was to the tune of "Row, Row, Row Your Boat." The idea that it was any other tune never even crossed my mind.

I've never thought of Row Row Row Your Boat...seems pretty obvious now that I think about it...it's impossible to communicate the tune I hear over the forums...I'll just say that it increases the tempo.

BLUFF, BLUFF-BLUFF thestupid oooooo-gre! Complete with twitching on every syllable.

I've never actually taken it as a song. To me he just sort of shouts it.

Um, I just went to check, and the example you're all citing (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0004.html) has four "bluffs", not three.

I seem to hear it as, "Yo-ho, yo-ho, a pirate's life for me!" :smallconfused:

It's always 4 times that he repeats the first word. His mother also sung "serve" 4 times. (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0050.html)

Hower, I guess it's possible that the first three words coincide with the Rows, and the fourth repeat already is played to the tune of "your boat..."
Bluff, Bluff, Bluff, (now really fast) Bluff the stupid ogre

It's possible his mother had messed up the song like this and Elan learned it from her, and never was able to shake the habit, even though he knows its wrong.

Edit: have to correty myself, there's at least one instance where he's only singing it three times (all other times I found he's been singing it four times though):
Clot, Clot, Clot my bleeding arteries! (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0006.html)

Row Your Boat here too, even if it doesn't always fit. But yeah, that's the "main" melody I hear.

I agree with Thor, A Pirate's Life would fit a lot better. Though I didn't here it as that, I sort of just made up my own tune. Sounds like a kid's song in my head.

Bluff, bluff, bluff, bluff the stupid ogre!
Brave, brave, brave, brave, brave Sir Robin!

Same melody.

I believe Rich once stated (a long time ago, during the Dungeon of Dorukan arc) that Elan's standard tune is a cross between "Row, row row your boat" and "Brave, brave, brave, brave Sir Robin."

Nope, sorry. I have put the area I'm referring to in quotes, and removed a word I had accidentally added. Sorry if I caused confusion with the extra word!

This question used to bother me because it soundes like Row, Row, Row Your Boat, but it never worked. A Pirate's Life works and I am pleased to have found the tune.

I honestly imagined the repeated word building up, then a little descending tune for the line after.

Getting back on topic, I had an epiphany a little while ago. Instead of the "Row, row, row..." part of the tune, maybe it's using the "Merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily..." part.

Just a thought.
