If a thread addresses a topic you wish to have answered, and it appears to be resolved, are you allowed (by etiquette) to post your problem (that is in the same vein) on that thread?

As long as it's on-topic and/or advances the discussion at hand, should be fine. What's the particular example, though?

It was one about a dramatic moment in a campaign. It's not <entirely> resolved yet, but I was just wondering.

Its generally the position of the moderation staff that a person doesn't "own" a thread, even if they created it. If a thread ventures away from the topic, you may politely request that it return to its origional course or that threadjackers start a new thread to discuss their tangent, but there is no imperative to do so. People around here tend to be really nice, and will usually respect such a request. If a person repeatedly threadjacks you for no reason OTHER than to threadjack you, that could be considered harrassement and should be reported as such (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/announcement.php?a=1). If you yourself wish to threadjack, consider if the topic is similar enough. This forum has a policy about "one topic, one thread". If your topic is tangentially related but different, feel free to start a new thread, possibly with a link to the origional thread but with desciption of how your thread is a different topic from the other.

Other than that, this is a discussion forum. Part of discussion is the ebb and flow of conversation, and the tides and currents therein leading the topic around where it will. Nobody will fault you for asking questions.
