Hello members of the Playground,

I'm in need of a song, a song that captures a certain mood. It should feel tragic and sorrowful, with a touch of chaos or dizziness. The primary instrument I'd prefer is piano. Lyrics are not necessary; in fact I'd prefer a piece with few or none at all. I'm certain that many playgrounders have more extensive memory for music than I, which is why I'm posting here. I'd be very grateful for even a few suggestions. Please?

So I've got a group presentation next week, centred on the final scene in the play A Streetcar Named Desire. One of the tasks required is to select and present a musical piece that captures the essence of the scene, and explain its lyrical/musical significance. So here I post with the hope that a good number of Playgrounders have extensive musical knowledge and have seen or read the script to ASND. Does anyone have any suggestions please?

P.S. My other groupmates want to use Dance in the Dark by Lady Gaga, but I'm dubious of its suitability. :smallconfused::smallannoyed:

Oh I love Streetcar! It's a fantastic play.

I wish I could help in your predicament more, but I'm more of a fan of theatre than a student. I'll just wait in a corner until a discussion is ready to start :P

Yeah, I can see how the lyrics would fit, but the song not at all.

I'd recomend something from this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4oUA6wirNfE) selection. Specifically the one 3:30.

In seriousness, though, Heron Blue (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qkdsOWfSXME) strikes me as appropriate, though it fits few of your criteria.

Of course, it is set in New Orleans, so jazz can't be ignored. I am not generally familiar with jazz, but do have some affection for Nat King Cole (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9IDUxk9sSXI&feature=related), though it's not really the same region.

For something less lyrics intensive I quite like this song from the anime Mai Hime (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yOkgC5JfM9I).

I am not familiar with the scene in question but based on your description I think that Rain by Dr. Draw (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZHNeuwO5UOU) is suitably chaotically tragic.

I apologize for the low sound quality in the link.
